These people are known as
The Marked, and are cursed to have their personal demons and traumas come to life as bloodthirsty monsters called
Nightmares. The Marked carry the power to use Arias, combat magic rooted in the very essence of their being.

Michael is
Serah’s older brother, who was separated from her long ago. Silent and reserved, he carries scars on his body and within his heart from his history with
The Sanctum. He also carries
Pyra, the Aria of Flame.
[h2]Madeleine[/h2]
Madeleine is an older Marked who has wandered Paradiso for a long time. She carries the pain and wrath of her past compatriots, who succumbed to the
Curse of the Mark and became Nightmares. She knows how to fight back against the encroaching
Corruption, and can teach Christian how to resist it with
Grace. She carries
Aether, the Final Mantra.
[h2]Naomi[/h2]
While not visibly Marked,
Naomi senses a kinship with Christian that compels her to aid his cause. She appears incapable of wielding an Aria, but her indomitable sense of justice gives her the strength to confront a mysterious past and uncertain future.
[h2]Lucah[/h2]
Lucah escaped from the Dream when they came to accept their nonbinary identity and their love of Christian. While now absent from the Dream, faint echoes of their presence continue to haunt Paradiso, and Christian’s heart.
Christian’s quest to challenge the Faiths will intersect with the lives and stories of the Marked.
