What We’re Working On: Optimizations, Character Customization, and more!
Howdy Seikyuties! We hope you’re all having fun getting stuck into the Early Access version of Tales of Seikyu. As you’ll have undoubtedly read on Steam, we’ve been pushing lots of updates with bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements to make your Seikyu experiences as smooth as possible. Your feedback is invaluable during this journey, and we’re so thankful to you all for sending over your thoughts!
We may have just launched in Early Access, but we’re already working hard behind the scenes on ways to implement your feedback. Here’s a little look at some (but by no means all) of the things we’ve been working on!
Optimizations
You’ll have seen lots of optimization updates recently, but one of the big areas we've been working on is custom occlusion culling, and this should go a long way in terms of overall improvement. We’re going to be continually working on optimization, so if you experience any issues at all, please do submit a bug report form via the main menu of the game so that we can continue to improve and refine!
Character Customization!
We know that character customization is something the community would like to see in Tales of Seikyu, so we have decided to move this feature forward in our roadmap to bring it to you sooner! We’re currently working on giving you the option to customize the hair, skin, and eye color of your character via a color wheel, and we are aiming for this to be available in our first major content update! In the future, we plan on adding more hairstyles to the game and we’ve even been asking you your preferences over in the polls channel of the official Tales of Seikyu community Discord. Make sure you join to have your say! We know how important customization is to you and we can’t wait to bring you more and more. For now, here’s a little concept art of what the character customization screen could look like.
Fleshing Out the World
Tales of Seikyu is an Early Access game, which means that the content available now is only a fraction of what is coming and what will be in the game at 1.0. However, we understand how important it is to players that our world feels rich and engaging along the way.
With that in mind, we’re currently working on:

And that’s just the beginning! We’re also going to be working on adding ranching, new quests, and additional activities in buildings like Shuten’s Tavern. Check out our roadmap for an idea of how Tales of Seikyu will grow over time!
“Kon Is Always in the Way!”
Little sisters, eh? They just wanna be involved in everything! While it’s nice to have your sis by your side when you’re off adventuring, we know how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to pick up an item or chat to a villager and she gets in the way. We’ve updated the button prompts used to interact with Kon and we’re working on updates to her pathing as well, which should help prevent her barging in front of you all the time (can you believe that she tells you to work on your manners?!).
Villager Dialogue & Behaviour
We're adding more detail to the NPC schedules so that they have different routines for each season, and so that they have more relevant/interesting stuff to say to you when you run into them out and about! For example, we know that Liliana's head is in the clouds, but she shouldn't be talking about how beautiful and sunny Seikyu is while it's raining! We’ll also be adding more useful character dialogue, including tips and information about what’s going on in Seikyu.
Storage Adjustments
We’ve had some comments from players asking if we’ll be adding a “take all/deposit all” button to the storage UI. This does actually already exist in game, but we’re going to work on the UI to make this feature more user friendly!
To use the “take all/deposit all” feature, open the storage or container, and press the “R” button. You can see the button prompt for this on the bottom-right of the screen as you open the container. We’re also looking into adding features that will enable you to auto-sort in storage menus, as well as ones that will enable you to craft from storage.
Controller Support
We’ve got a couple of bugs to iron out when it comes to controller support. We just wanted to let you know that we’re aware of issues with controllers and that we’re working on them! We are very grateful for your bug reports and hope you’ll keep making them so that we can make the game controls even better!
Fishing
Similarly, we’re working on some bug fixes for fishing, and your feedback has been super valuable here. We know there are some balancing adjustments that need to be made and we want you to know we’re hard at work making fishing a fun and relaxing experience.
Lolita Outfit Concept Art
Along with hairstyles, you’ve also been asking us for more fashion options for your characters. We get it, it’s important to show off your style, especially as a member of the highly regarded Fox Clan! We’re workshopping a few ideas at the moment, and one of them is for a Lolita subculture inspired outfit, as voted on by the community. Check out the concept art below!
Combat Improvements
It’s important to us that combat feels as slick and intuitive as possible in Tales of Seikyu and, thanks to your feedback, we know there’s plenty of work that needs to be done here. We’re looking into ways to streamline combat and we think this will go a long way in improving the overall experience of the game, from battling low-level yokai in the countryside to boss battles in the ruins!

With that in mind, we’re currently working on:
- New characters walking around Seikyu.
- An exciting new area where more animals can be found!
- Adding additional interactions with animals to make spending time with your furry friends more enjoyable.
- Updates to character rooms. Visiting villagers is always fun, but we know some of the lodgings in Seikyu look a little modest at the moment, which is why we’re working on the designs for NPC homes. Can you guess who the room below belongs to?
