Interview with Yoni, the Star Singer of Seikyu!
Hey there Seikyuans! We hope you’re having a great summer and that your crops are soaking up plenty of sun. As you know, Seikyu is a small village, but that doesn’t mean it's short on talent! In fact, one of Seikyu’s very own villagers is an aspiring singer with the voice of an angel. We caught up with Yoni, the star singer of Seikyu, to learn more about her career, aspirations, and background ദ്ദി(。•̀ ,
Hi Yoni, it’s great to finally get a chance to interview you, you’re quite hard to pin down!
Ahh, I suppose I am. Between singing practice, song writing, and tending to my garden, there isn’t much time left in the day.
Speaking of tending to your garden, we’d love to know which came first: your interest in music or your interest in gardening?
It’s hard to say which came first – these things develop gradually, don’t they? I can tell you that I’ve loved both from an early age, but I didn’t start gardening until I was a little older. The beauty of flowers is a huge inspiration for my music.
Do you have a favorite flower?
Oh, don’t make me choose! If I had to pick, I’d say maybe a Hydrangea. Did you know they symbolise happiness and hope?
You have a very lovely home here with some interesting décor. Where did these decorative antlers come from?
Those? They belonged to my grandma…she’s not with us anymore, but I’m happy to have a way to honour her memory. She was a very talented performer in her time. I’ll always look up to her.
Ahh, so female deer yokai can grow antlers?
Yes, we’re similar to reindeer in that regard.
Do you ever grow antlers?
C-can we get back to the questions about my career?
Sure! It feels like everybody in Seikyu is cheering you on and encouraging you to pursue your passion. Is there anybody who supported you from day one?
My parents have always been incredibly supportive. They were the ones who encouraged me to stay in Seikyu so I could be closer to one of my all-time idols, Miss Ama! It’s been such an honour to spend time with her and hear her advice. My friends Liliana and Sasaki are very supportive too.
What about Seabert? We know you two are friends.
Seabert and I share a love for the greatest band of all time! I’ve got one of their CDs around here somewhere, you HAVE to listen to them.
Okay, sure! What is it that you like about them?
What’s not to love? The passion! The energy! The star quality! I’d give anything to be a part of their group, but first I need to save up to see them live.
What genres of music do you enjoy listening to?
My all-time favourite genres are J-pop and K-pop! There’s something so earnest and upbeat about those genres, you can tell the music comes straight from the heart.
Would you ever consider publishing an album of your songs so that folk can listen to you on their gramophone while sipping tea?
Of course! All my songs are incredibly meaningful, so I spend a lot of time on them, but my dream is to publish an album of my own someday.
