Introduction

This is a pretty small update.

Achievements

There are now unlockable achievements in Wild Omission. There are 19 in total. I could spend the next few minutes talking about each of them in detail, but you can just look at the achievements list.

  • Fixed edge case that causes Pause Menu to open twice.
  • Fixed bug that caused items to disappear when quick moving.

Whats Next

Now that I have the cleaning, and refactoring out of the way, I can focus on the cool stuff. Planned upcoming features include. Let me know which ones you would like to see sooner than others, that will help me prioritize them.

  • Structures
  • More Enemies
  • Maps
  • More Weapons

A Coat Of Wax | Alpha 1.1.2

Introduction

This update is all about stability improvements, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. It has been a while since I last did an update like this. There isn't really any exciting new features, it's the same, just faster and more reliable. I have taken bad bits of code, striped them out, and replaced it with better code mostly. That being said there are still some new additions.

Render Distance Slider

The render distance is now customizable.

Telephone Studios Splash Screen

This isn't something that is really too big of a deal. I do think it makes the game feel a little less amateurish though. I feel like there is an expectation that when you open a game, you are greeted with a splash before the main menu. Telephone Studios is what I (Larch) release games under, It's not really an actual studio with lots of people, it's just me. Releasing games like this makes it easier if in the future I have employees or collaborators.

Improved Node Generation

I have increased the node generation across all biomes. So finding stone, metal, and sulfur should become less of a challenge.

Take Aim | Alpha 1.1.1

Aim Down Sights

Yes, the gun now lines up with the crosshair when aiming.

Options Menu Improvements

I didn't like the way the options menu used to be. It wouldn't warn you if you forgot to click apply, and the "Reset" button really should have been called "Reset All". It will now automatically apply settings whenever you make a change. The "Reset" button has now been renamed to the "Reset All" button.

NPCs Now Take Fall Damage

All NPCs are now subject to gravity much like the player. Use this however you like. ;)

Small Changes/Bug Fixes
  • Fixed sleeping bags not working if they are outside of loaded chunk area.
  • Fixed possible crash related to deployables.
  • Fixed storms spawning on peaceful mode.
  • Fixed items disapearing when quick moving into full inventory.
  • Fixed world items repeatadly making clump noises.
  • Fixed possible cause of "This world requires an older version of Wild Omission" text displaying on newly created worlds.
  • Improved fly controls.

What's Planned Next?

For the next update I'm going to focus on cleaning up the code and optimizing things. After that I have a few major features I plan on working on. The planned upcoming major features list is something like this.
  • Maps that let the player see their sleeping bag, and last death location.
  • Lootable Structures that spawn randomly in the world.
  • Steam Achievements.

Infinite Update | Alpha 1.1.0

Introduction

This is the biggest update Wild Omission has ever received. It has been the result of over a month of hard work and dedication. It completely revamps the world generation. The worlds are now infinite, have biomes, and are completely different from world to world. This update breaks compatibility with worlds made on the non-infinite versions of Wild Omission. For those who still want to play their old worlds the old version will still be playable via the betas tab in the game properties, but the older versions will no longer be supported.

Infinite Worlds

Wild Omission worlds are now infinite. Meaning that you can keep exploring in any direction for ever and the world will keep going. The worlds are also now completely procedural generated, and the odds of seeing the same thing twice are one in a billion. The pre-infinite versions of Wild Omission featured a basic system that only procedurally generated things like trees and rocks. Now everything from terrain height, to ground color, are completely procedural.

Saving Notification

A little message informing the player that the game is saving has been added to the pause menu.

Small Changes/Bug Fixes

Fixed clipping issue on stone floors that made it difficult to climb stairs.

Demo Deactivation

The original plan for the demo was to have it run from September through November 2023. However it is still available. I do not feel the demo represents the full game anymore, especially with this new update. It also isn't getting played that much, so I'm pulling the plug on it. Effective today.

Discord Server

As a reminder there is an official Wild Omission discord server. If you would like to be an active member of the Wild Omission community, and get early teasers for updates before they are released, then you should join.
