New Locations: Vyborg Bay, Bourbon Island, and Aral Sea

The upcoming ‘Ground Breaking’ update brings three new locations for all types of War Thunder vehicles!

Aral Sea

The rapidly drying sea is both amazing and sad. The life of this small town on the shores of the Aral Sea was once linked with the sea, but now the desert sands have arrived. People left their homesю The seaport with cargo terminals, fish processing plants, bulk carriers and fishing vessels were abandoned and will never see a sea wave again. Here, on the sandy bottom of a dry sea and amongst the sand-covered ruins of a seaside city, War Thunder mixed battles will begin.

The new location “Aral Sea” will be waiting for players with the release of the upcoming update “Ground Breaking”!

Bourbon island

Bourbon Island is a location for air AB mode inspired by Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. A characteristic feature of this large and flat shaped area is the gigantic pits of volcanic origin with a wide flat bottom - calderas. Inside the calderas and on the surrounding roads, attack aircraft and bombers will find enemy bases and vehicles, while fighters will tear each other apart in wide “circuses” of natural origin.

Vyborg Bay

This location for the War Thunder coastal fleet was created after the magnificent northern nature of the Vyborg Bay near Medyanskaya Bay. The main game part of the location is represented by a dense cluster of rocky islands covered with forest - so called skerries, between which, even a large artillery boat can be constrained, not to mention frigates. But in such a sea labyrinth you can perfectly steer fast, small boats, constantly getting from one shark frenzy to another. Larger ships will find their job along the perimeter of the skerry labyrinth, from where there is access to two of the three capture points.

Universal back-ups and other inventory items

Recently we shared our plans about changing the rules of storing certain items in the inventory with you, where all newly received universal back-ups, orders and wagers would have activation deadlines, as well as (for wagers) a limited validity period after activation. This included the intention of limiting the period during which early received items might be used.

In announcing these changes we didn’t want to deprive you of the accumulated items and thus ruin your experience in the game, on the contrary, we wanted such items to be used often in battles and to bring you more benefits. However we took your feedback and suggestions into account and will not apply the new mechanics to items where applicable, that you already have in your inventory. You will be able to use them whenever you want to.

The limitation of the activation time for newly obtained items will be implemented with the first battle pass season in 2022. This information will be listed in the item description similar to boosters.

We thank you for the constructive feedback on our forums and social media!

Battle Pass vehicles: PT-658 torpedo boat

PT-658, one of only two currently fully operational PT series boats, comes to War Thunder as a new season Battle Pass vehicle!

The Higgins-built 78ft. boats of the 200 series are already familiar to War Thunder coastal fleet enthusiasts. These are fairly fast and well-armed boats with a wooden hull and a small crew. Boats are unable to provide any protection to the crew and internal modules even from machine gun fire, so they find their use in quickly capturing points and ambushes among islands and rocks.

The PT-658 boat in our game will be one of the prizes for the participants of the new Battle Pass season, which will soon start in War Thunder. The premium PT-658 fully inherits the advantages and disadvantages of the series. The boat is well-armed: a 40mm Bofors at the stern, a 37mm autocannon at the bow, a pair of 20mm Oerlikons and 4 large-caliber machine guns make it an unrivaled hunter of enemy boats and light aircraft. The PT-658 has a rich selection of additional weapons: you can combine 4x569mm torpedoes, depth charges and 16 unguided rockets. Unfortunately, the wooden structure is vulnerable to damage and the small crew do not allow the boat to survive for long under enemy fire. Even rifle calibers are deadly not only to the crew, but also to the internal modules.

The most profitable tactic of using the PT-658 is to quickly capture points under the cover of a smoke screen, engaging in short fire contacts with enemy scouts. As long as the boat is able to move, it must not stop, otherwise any serious enemy will easily cripple the wooden American with the first salvo. Capture one point - retreat and move to the next one. Premium bonuses PT-658 will bring a good income for each captured point and each enemy shot!
