[Development] Swedish Aircraft in War Thunder! SAAB J29D Jet-Powered Fighter.

Dear friends! We’ve got some great news! A new playable nation is coming to the game in the War Thunder 1.93 “Shark Attack” update – Sweden! We’re kicking off our rollout of Swedish military vehicles with aircraft, and in War Thunder update 1.93 you’ll get the chance to be the first owners of aircraft from this new in-game nation.

The first two aircraft from the Swedish air forces will be available in upcoming update 1.93 “Shark attack”. The closed beta-testing of the Swedish air tech-tree will begin later, in the following War Thunder update.

The final product is a well-built jet fighter with excellent flight characteristics, powerful frontal armament for air battles, and assault suspensions for taking out ground forces. The J29D’s direct peers in the game are the American Sabre and the Soviet MiG-15bis. The J29D displays bold individuality in every aspect: its unusual appearance, its excellent combination of speed and manoeuvrability, as well as its versatility, which sets it apart from most other aircraft.

The SAAB J29D is a great first choice for getting to know the aircraft of Sweden!

[Development] Rank V in the War Thunder Navy: The USS Pensacola

We’ve got great news for fans of War Thunder’s naval battles: the first rank V ships will be added in the next update!

Ships will be added to rank V gradually, and in update 1.93, we’re presenting the first two top-tier combat vessels. Today we’d like to tell you about the USS Pensacola, a heavy cruiser and a true titan of War Thunder’s naval battles!

In War Thunder, the Pensacola will be one of the first rank V ships and occupy the new top-tier position in the American naval research line. In the game, the Pensacola straddles the edge between ranks IV and V in terms of her stats, but she also opens a path to researching larger rank V ships. The Pensacola is essentially a light cruiser “on steroids”, an intermediate link between classes that combines the armour and movement stats of a light cruiser with the powerful weaponry of a heavy cruiser. The ship’s main armament consist of ten 203mm guns in four turrets located fore and aft. Her universal artillery includes eight 127mm guns in open mounts on either side. Her close-range anti-air battery includes two quadruple 28mm guns (“Chicago pianos”) and four .50 calibre machine guns.

Attacks from the air can cause problems, since the Pensacola’s quick-firing guns just aren’t powerful enough, and her 127mm guns might not be able to aim at aircraft quickly enough under AI control, so it makes sense to take direct control of the AA guns and fire at aircraft manually. By the way, the 127mm cannons have shells with radio-controlled warheads, which can really help against aircraft. All in all, the Pensacola is a great ship for active combat that deals catastrophic damage with each hit. Naval commanders will be able to take the wheel of the Pensacola in update 1.93 “Shark Attack”. We can’t wait for you to see these massive ships!

[Development] A129 Mangusta

The A129 is the early prototype version of the Italian ‘Mangusta’ attack helicopter, developed by the Agusta company in the early 1980s. Coming to the game as part of War Thunder’s upcoming update 1.93, players will soon have the chance to pilot the menacing Mangusta as the first Italian helicopter in the game!

In War Thunder, the A129 Mangusta International will be the first Italian helicopter to make it into the game as part of update 1.93. Unlike some of the other more recent helicopter additions to War Thunder, the early model of the Mangusta offers a more ‘analogue’ approach to combating its enemies, but make no mistake - carrying all this more ‘conventional’ ordnance is still a highly advanced helicopter, capable of going toe to toe with the top tier opposition.

The A129 Mangusta will be available for purchase to all pilots as part of a special pack in our online store and will also be the first Italian helicopter to be added to the game as part of update 1.93. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the news for more information regarding the next major update coming to the game very soon. Until then, clear skies and happy hunting pilots!

[Development] Vickers Mk.7: The Steel Centaur

The Vickers Mk.7 is a British MBT, developed during the 1980s as a potential replacement for the Challenger 1 and for the export market. Despite the fact that it was never ordered into production, players can look forward to the addition of the highly interesting Vickers Mk.7, coming soon to War Thunder with update 1.93!

In War Thunder, the Vickers Mk.7 will be a new addition coming to Rank VI of the British ground forces tree with the release of the upcoming update 1.93. Combining the superb mobility of the Leopard 2 chassis with a well-protected turret and powerful main gun - a trademark of British tank design since the Chieftain MBT - the Vickers Mk.7 will help bridge the gap between the Challenger MBTs at the top ranks, while at the same time offer veteran British tankers slightly different dynamics than what they’re normally used to.

The Vickers Mk.7 is coming to War Thunder as part of the upcoming update 1.93 and will become available to all tankers at Rank VI of the British ground forces tree. In the meantime, make sure to stay tuned to the news for all the latest information regarding the next major update coming to the game. Until then, happy hunting tankers!
