Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers is part of Tiny Teams Festival this year!

Tiny Teams Festival is a week long festival celebrating small indie developers making awesome games. It runs from Aug 3rd to Aug 10th and I'm so excited to be a part of it!

If you haven't seen Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers before, it's a blackjack-based roguelike deckbuilder where you play with cards from real life and other card games.

Now live: version 0.10b of the demo!

New music!
This release adds 3 more music tracks which are randomly selected from at the start of each floor. This isn't the final music, and this isn't the way music will work in the game forever, but it gives everyone’s ears a break from the same 49s loop of music that has been in the game since day 1 😂

Later Poker Player
Swaps the order of the Poker Player and the Janitor so that you have a couple more chances to improve your deck before you face the Poker Player's powerful deck.

Bug fixes
  • Fixes a bug where the Booster Pack would have very strange behaviour when played by the opponent
  • Fixes a bug where you could skip encounters after the Shop and the Trade Offer

The new demo version is live!

New and changed cards:
- SD Card
Take top card from draw pile and add it to your hand, then lock this card. Unlocks when the drawn card is played from hand
Note that this is the old Dark Flower effect

- Booster Pack
Choose one of five random cards and put it in play. Add the other four cards to your hand. Burns

- Dark Flower has a new effect:
Adds to your hand. Locks. Shuffle three Double Back Cards into your draw pile

Changes and bug fixes:
  • Adds some clarity animations to I The Magician to show the cards that are being added to the draw pile
  • Fixes a bug where The Collector could swap the wrong cards
  • Baseball Card now correctly shows its modified value when previewing the draw pile
  • Changes Blood Donor Card to not be able to reduce a card’s value below 0
  • Fixes a bug where you could lock the game by hitting while having no cards in draw and discard pile

Version 0.9 of the demo is now live on Steam!

This version adds a new card, a new encounter to The Basement, and improves clarity when choosing from a selection of cards.

New card:
  • Blood Donor Card

Locks. Whenever you play a card whose suit is hearts remove 1 from its value and heal you by 1

New encounter:
  • Alucard

The Basement’s resident vampire rolls with a deck consisting of lots of hearts, and the Blood Donor Card - so it’ll be a challenge to whittle down his health.

Improvements:
  • When viewing choices you’ll now see the actual card value and status. This means that you can make better choices when cards like The Victim Card, Blood Donor Card, or Gravecard are in play, and you’ll be able to check the stamps on your Loyalty Cards before you draw them
  • Card choices now indicate where they came from when choosing, again so that it’s clearer where they came from and what the impact of your choice will be
  • The Fool now swaps the piles much faster
  • You no longer have to wait for Gravecard animation to complete before taking another action
  • Fixes a bug where if Loot Box returned a Memory Card or Old Baseball Card the card highlight would stay as that outline instead of the normal one


Now live: version 0.8 of the demo!

At long last, version 0.8 of the demo has just been released!

This version completely overhauls the way that card effects work under the hood. They are now much more consistent and less buggy, especially when card effects interact with each other, and it’s going to be significantly easier for me to add new card effects in the future!

Improvements:
- The game is much faster overall, with the card movements animations in particular being shortened

Loot Box event fixes
- fixes a bug where you could quickly open a new loot box after clicking last potion which would mean that the next loot box only showed one potion and all rewards couldn't be collected
- makes the skip rewards button skip card and heal potions
- makes the loot box opening animation get faster as you open more boxes
- fixes a bug where more than one "open loot box" card could be dealt if you clicked rewards and skip button quickly

Notable bug fixes and changes:
- Dark Mage can now be played by the opponent
- XI Strength now cannot skip the next opponent round if the opponent had already stood
- changes IV The Emperor, V The Hierophant, XV The Devil, XVII The Star, and XVIII The Moon to be checked when round ends
- this also fixes a bug where if they were swapped to other player their effect stayed on the first player
- changes XVIII The Moon shroud to be checked whenever moving cards
- Glitched Card now works more consistently
- fixes a bug where Valentines Card wasn't suited as hearts
- fixes a bug where loyalty stamps weren't being correctly removed after filling the Loyalty Card
- fixes a bug with the Joker where it wouldn't set it's value to 0 if there were no cards in discard pile
- fixes a bug where beer and a shot wasn't costing 100 chips
- fixes a bug where the Trade Offer event could offer the same card that The Collector requested
- fixes a bug where you could choose the Beer and a Shot option while having less than 10 health
- fixes a bug where killing the opponent using Scratch or Wheel of Fortune would allow them to play one more card before the encounter ending
- swaps the Poker Players Jack of Clubs for Jack of Diamonds
- several tweaks to card descriptions

I’m really excited to be done with this overhaul as now I can get back to adding new features, cards, and encounters!
