Now that you’re all set, let’s get into it!

The Darkness Within

Since the launch of the game, players have heard whispers of the Blight—a darkness seeking to claim the heart of the Forgeborn and consume the world of Solis. Over the last year, we’ve discovered its true name: the Darkforge. As the world begins to thaw, a new era dawns, but so does an ancient and terrible threat! When designing how the Darkforge would take shape in the game, we explored many possibilities. Ultimately, given its corrupting influence within the Factions, we wanted it to introduce corrupted cards into a Faction deck while still allowing access to other cards from that Faction. But that raises a critical question: which Forgeborn will lead these Darkforge decks?

Among the Forgeborn, Sunder has fallen the farthest under the Darkforge’s sway. Now, she serves as a Blighted Forgeborn, fully devoted to its sinister will. But a force as powerful as the Darkforge requires more than one leader.

The Darkforge has also claimed the soul of Cercee, who once sacrificed herself to halt its spread. Now, the undead queen rises again, commanding a new army to lay claim to Solis!

But the Darkforge’s corruption is not limited to Nekrium and Tempys. As its influence spreads, it seeks to consume Alloyin and Uterra as well! Blighted Cercee and Blighted Sunder can be found in all 4 factions!

When a deck has one of these Blighted Forgeborn the corruption also affects the deck allowing for some familiar faces to join.

I Give Into Temptation!

One of the most unforgettable moments from the very first Fuse Fest event was players shouting, “I give into temptation!” to gain power. We knew this had to be reflected in the game, and it became a core theme for the Darkforge. As you can see with Blighted Sunder and Blighted Cercee, these Forgeborn grant immense power—at the cost of your own Health. The more you sacrifice, the greater your rewards. This philosophy extends across all Darkforge cards. The Darkforge’s creatures are not new faces. These are familiar beings from the first three sets of SolForge Fusion, now twisted and reborn under the Darkforge’s influence!

Take the Metamind Overseer. Originally, it granted a single Gizmo or Mega Gizmo. But as the Metamind Omenseer, it offers even more summoning potential—at the price of your Health.

The Darkforge gave us the opportunity to design creatures with abilities stronger than what is typically seen at their Levels. This introduces an engaging new playstyle where your Health becomes a resource. Mastering this balance is the key to victory when piloting a Darkforge deck.

And if you manage your Health wisely, the Darkforge will reward your devotion handsomely!

Those who prove their loyalty to the Darkforge gain access to a free damage spell—efficient removal that helps keep you in the game as you teeter on the edge. Meeting specific Health thresholds is a powerful incentive to embrace this archetype, but it’s not the only way to unlock your Darkforge cards’ true potential!

These corrupted versions of familiar creatures grow even stronger as long as you’ve taken damage during your turn, rewarding aggressive, risk-taking play with instant benefits.

Join us in discord to see more spoilers this week!

The Darkforge allowed us to dive deep into an omni-faction archetype that fully integrates the Forgeborn. We can’t wait to see what devastating power you’ll unleash when Shadows over Solis arrives! Keep an eye out for more previews from the SolForge Fusion community this week as we approach the Shadows over Solis Prerelease event. See you there!

Shadows Over Solis Pre-Release Event: March 8th

Welcome back, fellow Forgeborn! Today we're taking a trip down memory lane and looking at the results of some of our previous storyline events and how those have shaped the design of Shadows over Solis. Players will be able to get their hands on the new set as soon as Saturday, March 8th at the pre-release event, and the set will release officially on Satuday, March 15th.

Shadows Over Solis: A World Shaped by Your Choices

The world of SolForge Fusion continues to evolve with its newest expansion, Shadows Over Solis. This set is not just a collection of new cards; it’s a milestone that reflects the collective impact of players’ decisions in both physical and digital storyline events. For newcomers and veterans alike, the release of Shadows Over Solis is a chance to see how player participation has influenced the narrative and mechanics of the game, while diving deeper into the ever-expanding lore of SolForge Fusion and the world of Solis.

The Birth of the Metaminds

The Alloyin’s journey in Shadows Over Solis began at Origins with the event Forging Destiny, where Crux Cobalt’s history and master plan were crafted by fans. Crux’s vision of a hivemind network became a reality through a series of player-driven outcomes, leading to the rise of Metamind creatures. This technological marvel isn’t just a thematic expansion; it’s a gameplay innovation. In Set 4, Alloyin players will gain access to a host of Metamind creatures, reinforcing their dominance as the faction of intellect and innovation.

Sacrifice and Shadows in Nekrium

Cercee’s tale took a dramatic turn during Fuse Fest 2024, where players uncovered a rebellion within the city of Shroud, spearheaded by the Forgeborn Nix Nekyia and their clandestine group known as “The Resurrection.” The rebellion’s discovery prompted Cercee to recruit more assassins into her elite guard, the Queen’s Knives, to eliminate the threat. This influx of warriors expanded Nekrium’s ranks, resulting in more warrior card-types for the Nekrium faction in this new set.

Amidst this turmoil, Toxys Mori, the leader of Cercee’s elite guard, was revealed as a traitor. Cercee’s attempt to assassinate Toxys forced her to flee, embarking on the pilgrimage to the SolForge. There, Toxys emerged as a powerful new Forgeborn, reshaping the balance of power within Nekrium.

Tempys Secures Whitefang Pass

For Tempys, the events of UKGE 2023 marked a monumental shift, redefining the faction both culturally and as an emerging world power. Tempys players’ choices won them Whitefang Pass, a vital trade corridor that reshaped the boundaries between factions. This victory not only granted Tempys a strategic advantage but also paved the way for their first non-nomadic settlement. Shadows Over Solis will see Whitefang Pass added to the Tempys faction as a new Exalt.

The Tempys faction’s story also welcomes a new Forgeborn, Tundra, who represents an element of the growing divisions among the Tempys clans. These divisions split into three paths: those who follow the power-hungry and corrupted Sunder, those who adhere to the ancient and dogmatic ways of Korok, and those who choose a third path, embodying a new path we will likely explore at future events. Her arrival in Shadows Over Solis is accompanied by a surge of yeti creature cards, bringing fresh possibilities to the Tempys playstyle. This story is deeply rooted in the deck lore surrounding Sylka, an ancient yeti who heroically sacrificed herself for her kin, inspiring Tundra's path to the SolForge.

Redemption in Uterra

The Uterra faction’s arc has been one of redemption and renewal. At Gen Con 2024, players witnessed Oros’ cleansing from the corruption of the Blight and his reunion with Ironbeard. Once consumed by the DarkForge in a desperate attempt to save his people, Oros now stands as a symbol of healing. His redemption mirrors Uterra’s broader narrative shift towards unity and collaboration. This theme is further explored in the Scorchwyrm Online Event, where players helped tame the terrifying Scorchwyrm, forging a bond between Oros and Nova.

[Some information about the Uterra story has been redacted!!]
The unity of the Forgeborn in the Uterran cause is the foundation for a new mechanic in Shadows Over Solis. This mechanic encourages Uterra players to strategically position their creatures adjacent to one another, creating powerful synergies representing the faction’s lore-derived focus on collaboration.

Exploring Deck Lore

Deck Lore is custom-tailored lore about one of the SolForge decks. Players who participate in storyline events have the opportunity to immortalize their decks through custom-written short stories permanently attached to their registered decks.

For example, the Tempys faction’s journey in Shadows Over Solis draws heavily from the tale of Sylka, an ancient yeti whose heroic sacrifice continues to influence her kin—maritime sea shanties and a deck full of yetis inspired this lore.

To have deck lore written, participants generally need to attend a storytelling event and recount an exciting moment from a match. While this is the most common way, there are no hard and fast rules about how or when deck lore is created—the decision ultimately lies with the Stone Blade team. A handful of these submissions are selected, and the details provided are used to create stories attached to the decks, immortalizing them on solforgefusion.com.

On our story page, you can find all the SolForge Lore, including deck lore.

A Story You Helped Forge

Every event, every decision, and every sacrifice made by players has left a mark on Shadows Over Solis. From Cercee’s rise to power to the taming of the Scorchwyrm, the set was crafted from a player-driven narrative. The choices made at SolForge Fusion events have influenced the storyline and shaped the cards and mechanics that define this set.

As Shadows Over Solis launches, it’s clear that the world of SolForge Fusion is as dynamic and collaborative as the players who bring it to life. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a curious newcomer, now is the perfect time to jump into the fray and see how your choices can shape the future of Solis.

In the end, the story is yours to forge.

Uterra and Alloyin: Faction Highlights from the Shadows Over Solis Set!

Welcome back, fellow Forgeborn! Last week we explored some of the themes and mechanics available in Shadows over Solis for the Nekrium and Tempys factions. This week, we’ll be diving into how the Alloyin and Uterra factions are represented in the set.

Before we dig in, though, it’s time to break the news. Shadows over Solis will be released on Friday, March 14th, with a pre-release event taking place the preceding Saturday, March 8th!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled content.

    Release the Beast

Uterra has traditionally been a creature-focused faction, and we wanted to emphasize that in Shadows over Solis. One of the ways we’ve highlighted this in the set is by incentivizing players to play creatures adjacent to each other, giving the feeling of attacking enemies with a pack of creatures. This is most prominently represented in the set with mechanics featured on the Beast creature type.

This gameplay style allows us to enhance SolForge Fusion’s lane-based gameplay, where positioning is crucial both in the moment and for long-term strategy. A great example of this is Nina, Pack Mother.

Nina enters the battlefield as a relatively unthreatening creature, but as you start playing other creatures adjacent to her, her pack instincts grow, transforming her into a formidable opponent for your adversaries!

To support the theme of playing multiple adjacent creatures, we also wanted to ensure there were ways to maintain a broader board state and make it easier to summon more creatures. Groma Brighttusk helps achieve exactly that.

When Groma replaces one of your creatures, she brings Minions along with her. At Level 1, she starts with just a Wisp, but she quickly advances to an Oakfather Minion before ultimately bringing in two Oakfather Minions at Level 3! If you pair Groma with Nina and choose to replace Groma herself with one of your Oakfather Minions, that could result in a potential +15 Attack and +15 Health for your Level 3 Nina with just one action!

Of course, playing creatures adjacent to one another isn’t the only Uterra theme highlighted in the set. There are several other exciting strategies within the faction, including unleashing the wrath of Dozer the Slumbering Fury!

At Level 1, Dozer is a solid 6 Attack, 5 Health creature with Breakthrough—a nice early-game threat. A Level 2, Dozen has to hibernate and will rest in your back row. But after a little rest, Dozer unleashes his full fury at Level 3 as it Strikes enemy opposing creatures before making a proper attack! This kind of power can close out a game in a hurry.

    Assimilation

Metaminds are one of the most unique creature types on Solis, psychically linked together in a hive mind network and deeply integrated with Alloyin technology. The rise of Crux Cobalt has brought Metaminds more to the forefront of Alloying society, as they embody Crux’s ultimate goal of assimilating all minds into one.

To emphasize the theme of creating docility in enemies and manipulating their minds, the Metaminds in Shadows over solis focus on altering the Attack stats of creatures. Let’s take a look at a couple of the Metaminds featured in the set.

Axion Shift is a unique creature that allows you to swap the Attack stats of two enemy creatures. This can be quite powerful, neutralizing a creature that would otherwise pose a significant threat from keywords like Stealth or Breakthrough, while boosting a creature you’re more willing to battle and potentially trade with. Axion’s entry onto the battlefield can create considerable board control, and we’re excited to see how players will maximize this ability.

Building from the theme of Attack manipulation, we also wanted to introduce a creature capable of completely neutralizing enemy threats: the Mindbreaker!

The Mindbreaker strengthens itself for each creature of the same type you have in play. Assembling a force of Metaminds can turn the Mindbreaker into a serious problem for opponents, allowing you to establish complete control of the board.

But wait! There’s more! Let’s take a look at one final Alloyin creature who can truly disrupt your opponent’s plans.

Arion Kest is an Alloyin sniper who can eliminate enemy creatures while also dealing direct damage with his Stealth ability. Combining Arion with Augments can significantly enhance his damage output and help your Alloyin squad secure victory!

    Loyal to the End

As mentioned last week, each faction in Shadows over Solis has a Loyalty spell that is free to play if you have two or more creatures of the appropriate faction in play. We explored the Nekrium and Tempys loyalty cards last week, so let’s take a look at the bonuses you can gain from deploying Alloyin and Uterra creatures to the battlefield.
