"Full of Beans" Content Update (version 0.1.4676)

Hello Goblins and welcome to our first Early Access content update: Full of Beans!

Seems you've been very busy little goblins! We've had many reports of the woes of having too many trinkets and not enough ways to get rid of them, so the Full of Beans update brings you new ways to manage your stock. You now have the ability to expand the space in your Stash book, and we're also introducing the Pay-What-You-Can Box. Read on to learn more about them, plus all the additional new features and fixes included in this patch!
What's New
Stash Upgrades
This much-requested feature is in! Upgrade your stash to hold loads more trinkets! Purchase and then upgrade the Chest to increase your stash slots, and find a few bonus slots through other upgrades scattered around the shop too! If you already own certain upgrades, such as larger workbenches, you'll find some extra stash slots already unlocked the next time you load your save file.

Pay-What-You-Can Box
Purchase this to help clear out unwanted stock! Drop trinkets into the box, then leave them overnight. Passing customers might well help themselves, and will probably – though not always – leave you some gold! You can upgrade the box with more item slots, but be aware that unless someone's feeling really generous, most of the time you'll only get a pittance for the trinket.

Stove & Coffee Pot
Purchase this set to unlock a nice hot brew every day! Drinking coffee (for a small cost) gives you 1 bonus timeslot to use every day, which means you can get more done! But only once. Goblins don't over-caffeinate. And even without the coffee, the stove adds a lovely cosy ambience to the shop, ready for the cold months ahead.

Brand new character & quest
Raniel has recently arrived in the city, and this kindly Frog's mother is a little worried about him. Like any good frogkin, he's going to make sure to assuage her concerns - and he's about to meet you, so he'll be fine! Plus we've also added one new quest each for Ortici and Virgil.

10 new trinkets
These will appear via sacks as per normal, with their own cruft chipping 'puzzle' to clear.

 • A Bead Necklace
 • An Orcish Dagger which is made up of the Blade, Hilt and Pommel
 • The Viola and of course the Bow you'd need to play it
 • A Wooden Mask, plus its Ear and Horn to complete the look
 • An accessory for the Lich Crown
Updates
• Every single trinket now has their own individual icon making it easier to tell exactly what they are in the Stash book.
 • Redoir's VO has been updated.
 • You can now dismiss all NPCs, not just the 'random' ones.
 • We've done a huge optimisation pass on the game (focusing mostly on UI & textures) to help the game run smoother on low end machines.
 • We've standardised the various shelf sizes to make it easy for them to be updated in future (more on that down the line). You shouldn't notice a difference but do let us know if you spot any oddities.
Bug Fixes
• We've addressed an issue which prevented trinkets being placed on the edge of the largest workbench upgrade after reloading save files.
 • We have significantly reduced the memory footprint of our NPCs shaders and textures which we are hoping will prevent most of the crashes that some of you have been experiencing.
 • The trinket counter in the top right of the UI has been removed to prevent confusion while we think about how to fix and revamp it.
 • We fixed an issue that was causing the hands of human customers to appear transparent.
 • The Lute will no longer clip through the sales mat when placed on the customer desk.
 • Coin bags will no longer drop to the floor when trying to add them to the Stash book if it's completely full of trinkets.
 • We've fixed another instance of duplicated trinkets appearing in the sack after clicking on random stranger NPCs multiple times.
 • The upcycling connection point for the Bent Nail Handle is now on the head of the nail rather than on its point.
 • Customers are now actually grateful for your hard work and will smile at you when you provide them with their requested trinkets!
 • Various other tweaks and minor fixes.
What's Next
Of course this is just the first step in a long and winding road towards our 1.0 launch next year! Sometime in December, and certainly before Christmas, we'll be dropping the "Festive" content update for you lucky lot! In the meantime we'll be keeping our eye on how Full of Beans went down. Not only so we can fix any nasty bugs ya'll find, but also to see if we can steer or adapt our plans for the coming months! Speaking of which, check out the new Roadmap - it feels so good to be chugging along! Not only that, but so far the response from you has been amazing. Seeing our review score go steadily up in the last 3 weeks since launch has been super motivating for us all. So until next time, please do pop by our Discord and chat to us about the update, and if you haven't already leaving a review really does help us out so much!

Launch stats & what's next

We can't believe it's been 2 whole weeks since we launched Trash Goblin into Early Access! We've been amazed by the reception the game has received from the press, players and content creators alike, and we're delightedly and doggedly developing more content for the game as we speak.

Before we dive into that, I'd love to share some stats with you in this, our first of the new monthly updates!
LAUNCH STATS
We knew there were plenty of people out there who were looking forward to the game - we had just over 80,000 wishlists on launch day - but nevertheless we're continually bowled over by some of the numbers we're seeing.

102,000+ Wishlists. This includes the 7,500 "wishlisters" that have bought it. This means we've had nearly 30,000 wishlists added since launch!? We've seen so many people getting excited by what they see, and we think probably waiting for the 1.0 launch? We'll keep trying to convince people to play during Early Access, but regardless it's exciting to have so many people (we think) waiting for the complete game.

12,000+ sales! That this many people want the game even during Early access is amazing to us. Can't wait to build this number up over time, but it's a really solid start that gives us confidence.

45th Best Selling - on launch day the highest we got in the steam charts we say right next to the amazing Tiny Glade!

Hours and hours of fun.

 • 3 hours 45 minutes average playtime.
 • 25% of players have played for more than 5 hours.
 • 7% of players have played for more than 10 hours!
 • 201 people have played for more than 20 hours!?

This kind of data gets me (a designer) the most excited. We tried really hard to make sure there were 3-5 hours of hand-made content, before the endless randomised customers took over. It was a question of ensuring people felt the game was worth the money. So when we see a huge amount of players spending so much time enjoying the game, it kinda boggles the mind. We're onto something with this!

Very Positive review score. With 83% of the 140 reviews being positive, we're blown away. And this has been rising every day - we started around 80%, and that bodes really well as we update the game more and improve it over time. Can we get to Overwhelmingly Positive...? Why yes, I think we can!
HOTFIXES
In the week following launch, we've updated the game 4 times, with a huge raft of improvements and bug fixes. Some of the highlights include:

 • autosaving improvements, including an icon telling you when the game is saving
 • various issues with customers not accepting the correct trinkets
 • objects falling off the Customer Desk
 • fixed an issue affecting the variety of customer requests
 • added tooltips for all trinkets outside of the stash
 • added a button to reset tools on the desk for if they get lost
 • crash fixes

Couldn't be more pleased with the way the team has handled all this amazing work, and being able to respond to fast to the player's issues has no doubt helped our review score.
"Full of Beans" - behind the scenes of Content Update 1!
So let's get into what's coming next! In November (so the next 10 days) we're pushing our first content update to the game, and I thought I'd go into some details on two of them!

First up, a hotly requested feature that frankly we were very close to shipping with - the ability to upgrade your stash! You'll do this through the Expansion mode, and you'll find two kinds of objects that upgrade your stash. the first will be just that - stash upgrades, nothing else. The other will be an item with a separate function that also upgrades your stash. Because why not?!

Second, a 'Pay What You Can' box. Otherwise known as an Honesty Box. This brand-new Expansion item will allow you to place trinkets inside it, and overnight they might sell to passers-by! They won't likely sell for much (though you might get lucky), and heck sometimes someone might take something for free (not everyone can afford to pay all the time, especially in this neighbourhood) but it clears your decks and chances are you'll make a little something extra.

Here's a little look at the development process!

01 - figuring out where to place things in the game world.

02 - concepting the new feature

03 - sculpting and texturing the model

04 - adjusting the space so it makes sense 'before' the expansion is bought

05 - seeing it ingame!

06 - the UI for the item, once you've bought it and can use it.

We had a plan for this for a long time but seeing how much players want to be able to clear their stock of spare trinkets more, we felt it made sense to bring the feature out earlier than we'd planned.

There'll be plenty more cool stuff in the update too, but we'll save all the juicy details for when it's out!

And that's it for this update!

As ever please do leave a review if you're enjoying the game, it helps us out so much!

Hotfix 4 - No More Missing Trinkets! (version 0.1.4468)

Hey Goblins,

Just a small one! We've nuked the following nasty:

 • Save files will no longer corrupt when quitting via Alt+F4 (or if experiencing a crash) immediately after loading into the game. In other words, no more missing trinkets when reloading saves.

In other news, we’re part of Secret Mode’s Cozy Quest event which runs up to the 18th of November. Trash Goblin is discounted alongside an amazing bunch of cute and cosy games, so if you’re in need of a comforting, wholesome weekend then make sure you check it out.

Hotfix 3 - Tooltips, Tools and Trinkets! (version 0.1.4457)

Hello Goblins and welcome to Hotfix 3!

Once again, thank you so much for all your support, reviews and especially for your help with hunting down these pesky bugs. And thank you for your patience while we addressed this latest batch of fixes for you.
FIXES
• Tooltips will now appear over trinkets when hovering over them for two seconds, including outside the stash.
 • Trinkets will no longer vanish after returning to the main menu half way through cleaning them.
 • We've added a button to reset tools on the workbench in case they get lost on messy desks!
 • We fixed an issue that caused some trinkets to go missing when reloading save files.
 • You will no longer get stuck in an endless loop with a customer repeating their request if you cancel the deal at the last minute.
 • We've made some tweaks to make saving more robust and prevent save file corruption when reloading a save game after cleaning.
 • We've made various stability fixes to address some crashes.
 • The stash will now automatically open when you begin upcycling.
 • Non-compatible trinkets on the workbench and shelves are now greyed out when upcycling, similar to the way they are in the stash.
 • When upcycling you are no longer forced to place held trinkets in the stash, they can now be placed on the workbench or on shelves.
 • Upcycler upgrades will now unlock even when reloading a save file at the start of the tool upgrade quest.
 • Reloading a save at the start of the shop upgrade quest will no longer cause it to auto complete and bypass the unlocking of the expansion mode button.
 • You can no longer place trinkets behind the tapestries at the back of the shopkeeper area.
 • There is no longer a delay preventing you from progressing through dialogue once it has finished typing to the dialogue box.
 • A 'continue' icon will now appear on dialogue boxes to indicate when the dialogue has finished printing and can be progressed.
 • You no longer have to click an NPC twice to re-initiate a conversation after selecting 'no deal'.
 • We've implemented a new mouse-over effect on NPCs and standardised it.
 • Some minor tweaks have been made to refine the flow of the tutorial.
 • Mushromeo's quest has been tweaked to prevent possible confusion over their amorous trinket requests.
 • Redoir’s trigger box no longer fills the entire customer window and instead matches her character model rather than her personality.
 • A bunch of NPCs have been re-scaled relative to one another. No more giant, intimidating amphibians!
 • Plus a small handful of miscellaneous tweaks and minor fixes.
WHAT'S NEXT
We're still working on an issue which prevents trinkets being placed on the edge of the largest workbench upgrade after reloading save files. We're nearly there but it's a system that touches a lot of things and it's a bit like opening a can of worms! We need more time to make sure it's working fully before we release it into the wild, and we'll get this out in another patch ASAP.

As a refresher, here are links to our previous patch notes for Hotfix 2 and Hotfix 1.

If you haven’t already done so, then remember to check out our Early Access roadmap for an insight into our update schedule.

And finally, details of how to report any other bugs you encounter can now be found in our brand new Troubleshooting Guide (along with info on where to find save files and player logs).

Trash Goblin is a cosy shopkeeping game all about amassing giant hoards of dirty trinkets and hoping an adventurer will come by needing at least one of them
