Speed Run Competition Update

We're doing a fun friendly speed run competition over on the Decimate Drive Discord server. Complete the demo as fast as you can and if you're fast enough you'll be able to name on of the streets in the game. Check out #speed-run-competition on Discord for rules and more.

Even if speed runs are not you're thing it's still worth checking out Discord. I regularly post sneak peeks of the game. From new gameplay features to new vehicles like the much-requested snow plow.

Quick demo update

A small update was just released for the demo to reduce the difficulty a little. Things like slightly faster player movement, cars are slower to recover after crashing etc.

If you tried the demo, but thought the difficulty was a bit much, then definitely give it another shot! If you thought the demo was a walk in the park then don't forget to try New Game Plus mode 😁

And of course, happy Halloween!

Decimate Drive demo available
New demo available
Get an idea of what Decimate Drive is all about by trying out the new demo. It contains gameplay and a bit of story. The biggest additions since the last playtest update (more on that below) are the new game plus mode and collectibles.
End of playtest
The release of the demo also marks the end of the ongoing playtest (on Steam). Thanks again to those who joined the playtest and gave their feedback. It helped me greatly in figuring out what to work on. To give you an idea what changed since the start of the playtest:

 • Balancing and a difficulty option
 • Improved lighting and a gamma slider
 • Smoother movement and a look-back-feature
 • Lots of bug fixes

Even if you joined the playtest you can still find plenty of new stuff in the demo. So be sure to check it out!
On to Early Access
The release of the demo is a small detour along the road to an Early Access release. Since Decimate Drive is a game I work on in my spare time, it’s difficult to give an exact release date. I’m aiming for the beginning of 2024 at the moment. Time will tell!

Devlog: New wheels

This weeks devlog of Decimate Drive is about the levels and cars I've been working on (which you can check out in the latest playtest update).
Levels up
At the moment I'm spending most time on new levels and extending existing levels. Each level comes with it's own unique location and gameplay style. One of the latest additions is a level based on a typical American suburb. With its open streets it offers backyards and alleys which are ideal for taking cover. But cars can also come at you from more direction.

Levels which have been included in the playtest have also been extended. Letting you spend more 'quality time' in each location.
Out of the fight
To add a tactical twist to the game it's now possible to trap cars. Pay attention to your surroundings and you'll be able to spot ideal locations to trap a car. This puts them out of the fight, giving you a better chance to make it through the level. Only for a little while though...

Heavy traffic
As we get closer to the early access release, you'll be seeing new cars appear in Decimate Drive. My goal is to add a nice variety of vehicle types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Playtest and progress update

This weeks devlog is about the playtest (still regularly updated) and the upcoming early access release of Decimate Drive.
About the playtest
Since starting the playtest, the game has gone through several updates based on the feedback you provided. From tweaks to the difficulty to smoother movement. Thanks again for taking the time to help out!

Improvements to the damage done by cars are still a work in progress, but will probably make their way into the next playtest version.
Next stop, early access
From now on I’ll be working towards an early access release. This means finishing the story (I didn’t include it in the playtest so as not to spoil the plot), adding more vehicles and adding more levels.

Something I also want to work on is the way cars behave. As some of you also suggeted, it would be interesting to see each car behave in a unique way. There’s a little of that in the playtest already, but there are tons of options the game doesn’t explore yet.
