Soulslinger enters the limbo of Steam Next Fest: October 2023! 🔥



Happy Monday, fellow gunslingers! 🤠

Once again, it's about time for the fabulous Steam Next Fest! Until October 16 hundreds of demos are live here on Steam, connected to hundreds of streams, developer specials, and much more. Exciting times for sure, and you definitely don't want to miss this!

And Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is aboard for Steam Next Fest as well! Just scroll down and click the green "Download" button to get your hands on the demo. And as promised, we updated the demo for Steam Next Fest! This is the complete list of new and updated features, balance changes and bugfixes:

NEW / UPDATED FEATURES:
  • New relic: the Purse of Prosperity, you can get the schematic from the pirate vendor
  • A new pre-rendered cinematic teases the story's main mystery
  • Added boss stages -- the King's Guard each have a secondary boss phase which brings new, more powerful spells for them!
  • Added more weight to enemy movements, replaced several animations and added sfx and vfx to enhance this
  • Added FOV option
  • Summoner enemies have improved AI, they can now rush in and strike you down with an AOE attack
  • Added invert Y option
  • Redesigned and added the shader compilation screen back into the game, should alleviate the remaining stutters
  • Added tutorial for fast reload
BALANCE CHANGES:
  • Poison will now expire after a while
  • Corrupted Decoy has less health (i.e. enemies kill it faster). Its own automatic expiration still happens at the same speed.
  • Fire explosions deal more damage (instead of 1.5x normal damage, it now deals 2x)
  • Reduced shotgun spread for more accuracy / usability
  • Reduced shotgun second bullet bonus damage, but increased base damage
  • Ultimate abilities are now recharged by successful shots instead of time and will not be auto-recharged at the end of a battle
  • Increased the health of both King's Guard bosses
  • Reduced the aim assist amount
BUGFIXES:
  • Fixed the "Fatal error!" crash
  • Fixed the bug where the game started in a different resolution than the main screen, only showing a quarter of the full game
  • Fixed an exploit where you could cause enemies to deal 0% damage
  • Fixed a bug where Shock Bullet did not remain available after use with Overload
  • Fixed several cases where stunning an enemy did not always interrupt their current action
  • Fixed enemies spawning in walls in the temple cave arena
  • Fixed a bug where enemies were not following you down into the mines in the mine arena
  • After a melee attack, a reload is now immediately initiated if ammo is at zero
  • Causing an animation glitch by spamming the melee key is no longer possible
  • Fixed a bug where Amulet of accuracy did not work with a shotgun as some bullets would definitely miss -- this is now handled per shot, not per bullet!
  • Reckless recovery now triggers on all other kills, not just bullet kills
  • Fixed missing water material in the initial area
  • Restricted regular in-game dialogue after Death's initial convo to prevent overlap between Soulslinger's voice lines
  • Fixed a graphical glitch with the gate travel VFX
  • Added a black, fullscreen background behind cut-scene videos so you can't see "behind" videos on certain resolutions
  • Various minor UI tweaks and fixes

Souslinger demo update #2: performance optimization, melee attack, and more!

Let's keep it short and simple: I've published another major update to the Soulslinger: Envoy of Death demo the last weekend! And instead of making big speeches here, I'll just let the changelog speak for itself:


OPTIMIZATIONS:
  • Game consumes 3-5GB RAM consistently (instead of the previous 8-10GB)
  • Game runs at 100+ FPS on high-end machines, can even work with a GTX 1060 on medium-high graphics
  • Instead of all the micro-stutters, we have opted to make the game freeze for 1-2 seconds when travelling through a gate, while we display "LOADING" -- this makes you wait a bit at each travel, but makes the game a lot smoother in all other situations!
GAMEPLAY:
  • Ability cooldown is now time-based instead of kill-based, allowing you to reuse abilities multiple times even throughout a single battle!
  • Each battle now consists of multiple enemy waves
  • Added a melee attack (default key: V) that deals moderate damage and pushes enemies back a bit
  • Added invert mouse option
  • Tons of bugfixes
KNOWN ISSUE:
  • At the moment, we are aware of a "Fatal error!" crash that can occur sometimes, we are currently in the process of investigating this. Expect a hotfix soon that will resolve this!

🔥 Various Soulslinger demo updates: shotgun behaviour, active reload, enemy AI!



Hey there friends!

As announced in the last update a week ago, we rolled out a bunch of demo updates including overhauls, improvements and fixes for the Soulslinger: Envoy of Death - all based on your feedback! Once again, thanks a ton for your ongoing support! ❤️



Here is the list of things we did in the meantime:
  • Completely redesigned the way the shotgun behaves, complete with new animations, new recoil, new bullet behavior and effects! While there are still some tweaks left to be done, overall the shotgun should look and feel closer to how we intended it
  • Updated the enemy AI of the basic swarmer, archer and fire thrower enemies, the swarmer can dash to you to attack and the ranged enemies have melee attacks now, instead of running away from you when you get close
  • Active reload: you can now press the "Fire" button at the right time to instantly complete the reload!
  • Updated Soulslinger's movement, his movements should be more dynamic and react to your input faster
  • Smoothed out enemy animations
  • Updated enemy compositions to provide more fun challenges in the way enemies are spawned in

First things first: Thank you all so much for playing the Soulslinger: Envoy of Death demo, and for providing some very valuable feedback on all channels! We are listening, reading, and collecting it everywhere: at gamescom, in the comments, the Steam Community Hub, the survey, on Discord, etc.

[h2]You all are fire! 🔥[/h2]

Because this is exactly the feedback that is super important for us to prepare the game for release this year. We have created a to-do-list with a bunch of changes, fixes and optimizations, including the following:

  • Expect updated enemy AI: enemies will have additional behaviors and will be able to react to more situations in a natural way! (Eg. the archer enemy will perform a melee attack when you get close instead of running away, or the basic swarmer enemy will be able to dash closer to you)
  • Fast reload: during reload, you'll be able to press the "Fire" button at the right time to instantly complete the reload! If you time this right, you'll be able to cut the reload time in half, or less!
  • Update to how Soulslinger handles: his movements will feel more dynamic and will react to your input faster!
  • Smoother animations: enemy animations will appear to be smoother (i.e. no more choppy animations!)
  • We're revising enemy compositions, discarding the ones that were boring to play against and amping up the ones we felt were a good fit!
  • We're also in the process of rebalancing enemy health and ability powers, once again to make sure it all feels better to play!

We will update the demo, and of course keep you up to date here on the Steam page. As these are some significant changes, please bear with us, this might take some time.
