2024 Q1 Roadmap: January to March Adventures

Calling all VoidBound voyagers!

We're charting a course towards exciting new features launching throughout early 2024.
We proudly present our roadmap for the months of January-March, leading up to a special tease at the Hentai Expo 2024!

Without further ado, lets start off with:-

  • [h3]Full Render: The Dungeon Awaits 📐[/h3]

In January, we have dedicated most of our time on completely re-imagining Tripteen. As the first main dungeon players will encounter, we felt that Tripteen sorely needed a makeover to match the quality of the newly revamped intro.

Most notably, we updated the graphical visual of the dungeon to be on par with the most recent areas we developed. We showcased the new vision of one of the maps in our Progress Report #97, as well as another map above.

With new stealth and light manipulation mechanics, players will be able to switch various lights on and off to reveal secret areas or hidden enemies lurking in the dark, and strategically use the light mechanics to their advantage.

Keep an eye out for future progress reports on the development of Tripteen!

  • Combat Clarity: Health Bars Unveiled 📊 (Work In Progress)

We are excited to announce two new additions to the combat system! Firstly, we added HP Bars for the enemies, to aid players in making efficient decisions based on the HP bar displayed next to each sprite.

The second addition is an info panel at the bottom of the screen that can be toggled on and off with a press of a button. This interface will showcase more detail than the HP bars, such as the numerical values of the enemies' current HP and total HP, to help players strategically plan their next move.

  • Weaponry Revamp: Mod Mania ⚙️

We have also been rethinking the weapon modifications to make the the existing weapon modding system more enjoyable and ultimately benefit the players in a meaningful way.

For instance, if you want to turn a single target attack into an area of effect attack, no problem! Want to turn a long range single shot into a piercing shot, go ahead! 👾 🔫

As the weapon modding is still in the concepting phase, we hope to reveal more information on this in the future progress reports!

  • [h3]Penning Passion: H-Scene Symphony ✍️[/h3]

February will be the month where we heat things up with steamy H content.

To ensure that all our scenes are up to the same quality as our recent ones, we are going to re-render and also re-imagine the encounters Caly had in the Tripteen dungeon. Don't fret as nothing will be cut - the old scenes will be accessible in the gallery while the new rendered versions will be placed in the dungeon alongside some brand NEW scenes.

We have a new artist on board! Our new artist will help with the lineart and sketching phase, working together with Doppel to bless VoidBound with more lewd art at a faster pace!

[h2]March[/h2]

In March, we are aiming to release an update that will feature the entire first planet re-imagined. We are working hard in hopes that we can deliver the update with ample time for testing and bug fixing.

If time allows, we may add an additional scene to the update as well.

*Connection Established*

It's time again to bring you up to lightspeed with the latest update from the development team. Let's dive in.

Our artist has been hard at work transforming the ambience of Tripteen's dungeons, including brand-new dungeon maps, background textures, and addition of non-interactive objects. With a keen attention to detail and environmental storytelling, we are aiming to create vibrant zones rich in lore that would suit a facility inhabited by beings of mysterious origins.

And of course, no dungeon adventure is complete without a bestiary of captivating foes. To that effect, that we've added a line up of new battler sprites. We'll be unveiling some of them in a special roadmap article dropping in the next few days so be sure to keep an eye out!

Our writer on the other hand, has been working to expand the dialogue options of the Villagers, allowing them to react to Caly's journey. For instance, once Caly has gained the trust of the villagers by completing various tasks, some of the villagers may spill valuable information, offer to trade, or provide services. Key choices in dialogue are going to have consequences throughout the rest of the story as development continues.

Lastly, our coding wizards report new additional UI elements! Presenting:

HP Bars & Enemy Information Windows:

You can now track of your enemies' health via HP Bars on the side and at the bottom information panel, gauging the effectiveness of your attacks and strategically planning your next move. Over the course of development, we plan to expand the UI to accurately reflect the information that is being displayed in real-time, such as status effects.

Ahoy there, adventurers!

Ready to dive into 2024's first week of development progress? We've been hard at work forging the next chapter of VoidBound, and we're excited to share the latest plans from our creative treasure chest 🗃️

First up, updates from the artist:


Continuing our work from December, the Tripteen Maps are undergoing radical transformations! Our original designs, though befitting of an underground setting, still felt a bit too clean for a zone that is supposed to be occupied by aimless destructive bots. So, we decided to tear down the old walls and started sketching a brand new layout, one that strikes the perfect balance between expansive exploration and aesthetically suitable adventure.

Enter:
A preliminary sample showcasing the new layout with the unmaintained damage the facility suffered throughout the decades.

Overall, the concept of the map wings are in place, and now we're crafting the visual tapestry that will bring them to life. Think dilapidated floors, atmospherically dark ceilings in disrepair, and leaning walls with flickering lighting fixtures that whisper tales untold. And just like the captivating maps from the new intro, we plan on sprinkling interactable objects that add depth and discovery to every corner..- well at least to a few corners 😅

Onwards to the write-.. 😥

Our sincerest apologies for this section as we don't have anything of significance to report this time. The writer went off on a new year vacation in high spirits, only to return a bit worse for wear. Nothing worrying thankfully, but he will be doing some major catching up in the coming few days. Once again, Mea Culpa 🙇

Finally, some Code news:


While Tripteen continues to march towards its re-envisioned debut, we haven't lost sight of the bigger picture. In fact, the coding team has been diligently tinkering under the hood, focusing on areas that can truly elevate your gameplay experience.

Take for example, the weapon modification system. Remember those trusty sidearm mods and devastating rifle upgrades you've come to depend on? .. Anyone? Maybe? 😭 Well, we intend to remedy that by giving these accessories more bite by implementing changes to make upgrades impactful!

That means not just stat bumps, but adjusting foe skills as well, encouraging players to explore the modification system naturally. In the end, we feel that upgrades should feel exciting, meaningful, and like a game-changer in the heat of each unique battle 🌡️

And that is all for this one! Fret not though, this is just the first few chapters in our ongoing development saga! Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the weeks to come, as we refine mechanics, polish features, and make sure every aspect of VoidBound's newest patch is better than the original!

Can you believe we made it another year? Time may fly when you're fighting blood thirsty aliens for your survival and crafting weapon modifications to take down those challenging foes 👾, but we wanted to take a moment to thank you, from the bottom of our pixelated hearts, for your epic support throughout 2023.

And what a year it was. Your epic support fueled our engines this year, propelling our pre-order nebula launch on Steam 🎮. Not only that, we also got featured in an Expo and even participated in our very first STEAM NextFest! It was truly a launch year of epic proportions, and we can't wait to reveal more of VoidBound's world in 2024 (think epic boss battles, re-energized planetary challenges, and of course, new adventures through the unknown stars!)
