Presidential Bulletin #7
Intro
Greetings, Runners!

It has already been two weeks since the Open Beta of Brazen Blaze began. We hope everyone is enjoying it!

This time, we’d like to talk about the movements of the game characters, also known as 'motions.' Most of the motions in Brazen Blaze were recorded at MyDearest's in-house motion capture studio. We're excited to give you a peek at the recording process, which isn't usually shared outside the company.
If you've never heard the term 'motion capture' before, don't worry; we'll try to explain it in the simplest way possible.

After reading this bulletin, we encourage you to play the game and pay attention to the character motions!
What’s Motion Capture?
Motion capture is a technique that digitizes human movements to create the movements of 3D models in games and films. There are several methods and tools for motion capture, but the most accurate method currently involves wearing a specialized suit and recording the movements using external cameras.

You can get a better idea by looking at the above example. The movements of the live actor on the left side of the screen are being reflected in the 3D model on the right side.

For instance, when motion capturing Sunshine, this...

Becomes this!

In motion capture, it's also possible to record movements using props. With equipment like trampolines and cushions, it's even possible to capture more dynamic motions.
Motion Capture in Brazen Blaze

In-Game Motion Capture
One advantage of motion capture is that it allows for the creation of more "human-like movements." Implementing more realistic and natural motions enhances the enjoyment of in-game actions in VR and helps maintain immersion.

However, capturing the motion alone doesn't mean it can be directly implemented into the game. Motion designers use tools like the one shown above to make adjustments and tailor the movements to fit the Runners, ensuring everything is polished and aligned with their personality.

Below, we provide a glimpse into the adjustments made to Riot's various motions.
-Punch motion

After filming the motion with motion capture, we added accents to it and adjusted it to naturally transition from the swing to the idle motion.

-Getting hit motion

This one has also been adjusted to stagger back a few steps before seamlessly returning to the idle motion.
Trailer Motion Capture
Not only the in-game motions but also some of the motions used in trailers were created using motion capture.
Have you had a chance to see the Open Beta Trailer?
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

For example, the scene where Riot, Skybolt, and Sunshine strike poses together was created using motion capture.

Here's what the actual recording session looked like.

Just like with in-game motions, adjustments were made, but you can see how the actors' natural movements are faithfully reflected in the trailer.
Conclusion
In this article, we discussed motion capture and the movements used in Brazen Blaze! With this knowledge in mind, you might notice new things about the Runners' motions when playing the game.
Be sure to participate in the Open Beta and pay attention to how the Runners move!

We're also collecting your feedback about the Runners' motions or any other general thoughts about the game on Discord.
