Presidential Bulletin #4
Intro
Greetings, Runners!

The Open Beta is coming up, and the team is in their final push! Soon, we’ll tell you about the specific schedules - hang on there, Runner!

In this issue of the Presidential Bulletin, we’re telling a story about how Brazen Blaze came to be. Like all great ideas, it started with a few notes on a piece of paper - and so we want you to know how Brazen Blaze evolved to its current, FXXKING awesome state!

If you’re curious about the Brazen beginnings, or if you’re simply interested in how we built the game from the ground up, you’re in the right place.
Origin of Brazen Blaze
Brazen Blaze began with a user-participation project called PROJECT: GATHERING.
In developing a new VR multiplayer game, we held planning meetings throughout MyDearest. From over 50 proposals, we narrowed it down to the final three. Among these, we let our users choose the game we would develop as the final decision-maker. Below are the three-game proposals that made the final cut.
CODE: BELL
A VR 4vs1 survival game. A life-or-death scream-filled survival with friends.
CODE: CAMP
A VR cooperative camping fantasy. A marshmallow party with friends, warmed by a dragon's breath.
CODE: GAUNTLET
A VR 3vs3 team strategy battle. A flashy team battle with friends using superpowers.

As many of you may have guessed from the name and content, the project that received the most user support and was chosen for development was CODE: GAUNTLET.
Through various twists and turns, it has become what is now known as Brazen Blaze.
Prototype Ver.1 Development
Once it was decided to develop CODE: GAUNTLET, a prototype was quickly created.
A prototype is a trial version designed to test the core systems of a game with the minimum necessary elements. In game development, prototypes are often used to test whether a game will be enjoyable. Because the purpose of a prototype is to test the "fun" aspect, its appearance tends to be quite simple. Initially, the characters were modeled as follows.

The initial concept of CODE: GAUNTLET was "a team battle where players use telekinesis to freely levitate and throw objects at each other." However, as the gameplay was tested with the prototype, several issues quickly became apparent:
 • It was difficult to defeat opponents by throwing objects at them.
 • The act of throwing objects at targets that were far away made it hard to feel a sense of having taken them down.
 • The necessity to hold an object to attack slowed down the tempo of the battles.

Therefore, the decision was made to drastically change the direction while retaining only the concept of "a 3vs3 action game using gauntlets."
Prototype Ver.2 Development
Based on the lessons learned from the old prototype, we proceeded with development following these guidelines:
 • Fast and free movement
 • Pursuing the fun of close-quarters melee combat
 • Intuitive controls, taking advantage of VR
Fast and Free Movement
Using prototype ver.1 as a counterexample, high-speed movement using the gauntlet was implemented under the hypothesis that "good tempo in battles leads to fun."
Below is the initial boost dash implemented in prototype ver.2, from which you can see the prototype of the current boost dash.
Pursuing the fun of close-quarters melee combat
Instead of throwing objects, we significantly shifted the combat mechanism towards direct attacks with the gauntlet. The idea was that, since it's VR, we wanted to move away from watching an opponent fall from a distance to defeating them up close! This design philosophy is why stuns can be achieved with long-range attacks, but kills can only be made through close combat. Below is what killing looked like in prototype ver.2.
Intuitive controls, taking advantage of VR
As a result of trying various control methods in the old prototype, we concluded that VR games must have intuitive controls. You can't see your own hands when wearing VR gear, making complex controller operations unfeasible. Therefore, we decided to use only the grip and trigger for basic operations.
Punching, boost dashing, using the Main Weapon, using the Sub Weapon, activating skills, launching the Ultimate, climbing walls—all these actions are performed using just the grip and trigger, based on the design philosophy of creating actions that are intuitive and straightforward.
Below is the initial implementation of the Ultimate in the prototype ver.2. From this point, you can see that activating it involves pressing both fists together. (This would later become Skybolt’s Ultimate.)

With the core game system established, we were able to develop prototype ver.2 to a level where we all agreed it was "fun to play!"
From “CODE: GAUNTLET” to “Brazen Blaze”
Although the prototype ver.2 was fun to play, the entire team felt that the game still lacked a certain flavor as a game; it was missing a defining theme.
After much discussion, the theme that emerged was "Defy the Rules, Unchain Yourself"
While playing the new prototype, the dev team particularly enjoyed actions prohibited in real life, such as "destroying the stage" and "taunting stunned opponents." The idea was to embrace these as the core of the game's enjoyment - and, by extension - what makes it unique.

The concept of "Finishers" was also derived from this idea. Actions such as punching an opponent to oblivion, shooting guns recklessly, or slicing in two with a single stroke have a certain allure that everyone has wanted to try at least once. These actions were incorporated as "Finishers".
Below is the first implementation of the Finisher in Prototype Ver. 2. (This would later become Riot's Finisher.)

Based on the theme "Defy the Rules, Unchain Yourself", the characters, setting of the world, and even the title were decided in turn. Combining all these elements together resulted in the creation of "Brazen Blaze" as everyone knows it today.
Conclusion
Today, we talked about the origins of Brazen Blaze. It started with the user-participation project PROJECT: GATHERING, and evolved from CODE: GAUNTLET's concept of "a team battle where players use telekinesis to levitate and throw objects at each other" to the current theme of "Defy the Rules, Unchain Yourself".

If the origins of Brazen Blaze have piqued your interest, we’d love for you to join our upcoming Open Beta test. We would also be delighted to hear your thoughts on the newsletter and the game on Discord!

Presidential Bulletin #3
Intro
Greetings, Runners!

Our team at Brazen Blaze continues to work hard towards the upcoming Open Beta Test scheduled for this Spring, 2024. Yes, it’s already Spring, but we promise we’re a little ways towards the start of the Open Beta, and we appreciate your prolonged patience.
Don’t fret, though. You’ll know when to put on your headsets for another run at the presidential throne!

Today’s issue of our Presidential Bulletin will introduce new features and game rules we’re developing. While the game rule might take some time to implement, the new feature will be available from the start of the Open Beta Test!
New Feature

Closet
Did you notice that mysterious door in the Lobby that couldn't be entered during the first Open Beta Test in February? That door will be unlocked in this spring's Open Beta Test!

Beyond that door is the “Closet” (pictured above) where Runners prepare for the Presidential War.
In the “Closet”, players can change skins for each Runner and weapon, freely setting their appearance for both the Lobby and subsequent matches.

The above shows a scene of changing Skybolt's skin. You can check both the Runner in full view and the gauntlets and weapons in hand simultaneously!
Skins!
Four types of skins are available: Runner skins, Gauntlet skins, Main Weapon skins, and Sub Weapon skins. You can mix and match these as you see fit. Skins can be obtained through the Battle Pass or the Shop. Details of the Battle Pass and the Shop will be introduced at a later date.

For now, take a look at some examples of Runners equipped with skins that are currently being worked on!

As you can see, we intended for the skins to change a Runner’s atmosphere almost wholly. This will allow individuality while matching up with different Runners in the field, making for a unique experience with every fight you’re in!
New Rule?
Next up, we’re introducing a new rule we’re currently working on!
Regarding the Current Rules
At the moment, only one game rule is available in Brazen Blaze: the 3vs3 Round Match. You win a round by teaming up with two other Runners and defeating all members of the opposing team, and victory is achieved by winning two rounds.

While this rule is common in various other games and is easy to learn, we have received feedback that it can make players feel somewhat guilty until they get accustomed to the controls, as they might inconvenience their team members.

The retention rate of beginners is one of the most critical indicators in competitive games. Therefore, we considered a new rule that allows beginners who have just started Brazen Blaze to play without feeling pressured.
New Rule: 1vs1 Duel (tentative)
We are currently developing a mode that allows for 1vs1 battles, tentatively named 1vs1 Duel.

The biggest difference from the traditional 3vs3 rule is, of course, that in a single match, it’s only you and your opponent.

In 3vs3, you need to be aware of the movement and actions of five other players. In 1vs1 Duel, you can focus solely on one opponent, allowing you to purely accumulate experience in combat movements. Even if you don't play well, you won't negatively affect anyone, so it might be an excellent opportunity to try being more aggressive than usual.

The stages for 1vs1 Duel will also differ from the conventional ones. The larger section in the image above represents the traditional stages, while the smaller section will be the stage for the 1vs1 Duel. Since it's 1vs1, the stages are much more compact, allowing for speedier and more enjoyable combat.
The 1vs1 Duel can be played with just two people, so if you have friends who play Brazen Blaze, you can quickly start a match with them. Even when queuing online, the waiting time for matchmaking should be significantly reduced.

Use the 1vs1 Duel mode to polish your 1vs1 skills, then fight it out in the traditional 3vs3 matches once you’re ready! Of course, becoming the best in 1vs1 will also be a thing - so it’s up to you whether you want to be a teamster or a solo Runner!
Conclusion
We’ve now introduced the “Closet” we’re building, the upcoming skins for Runners, Weapons, and Gauntlets, and the tentative 1vs1 Duel.
The “Closet” and skins will be in the Open Beta Test this spring. In the Open Beta, skins can be purchased with in-game currency at no cost, so try customizing your favorite Runner’s skin at will!

We welcome your opinions on other game rules you'd like to see or what kinds of skins would be interesting! We would be delighted to hear from you on Discord.

Presidential Bulletin #2
Intro
Greetings Runner,

It's been a while since the Open Beta Test ended, and the embers of the Presidential War have dimmed temporarily. While it's "peacetime," our Brazen Blaze team has been preparing for the second Open Beta Test!
This Spring, 2024, we plan to implement a bunch of new features that will continue to excite and entertain those who have enjoyed Brazen Blaze so far.
Specific dates and times for the 2nd Open Beta Test will be announced soon. Don't miss out, and stay tuned for more updates!

While you wait for more updates from our team, we'd love to share a part of our development process with you—basically a "How we do stuff here at MyDearest" sort of thing. As a topic that has received many questions, we're delivering a feature on the "Runner Development Secrets."
For the first installment, we will talk about RIOT, the face of Brazen Blaze!
Design
First, let’s talk about Riot’s character design - with a focus on their appearance.
Design Concept
We created Riot with the idea of having them become the face of Brazen Blaze in mind.
Since Riot would be the first Runner everyone would initially encounter through key visuals on storefronts, trailers, and whatnot, we paid meticulous attention to Riot's design to appeal to a broad audience while preserving uniqueness.
As a Runner embodying the theme of Brazen Blaze, "Defy The Rules, Unchain Yourself!", we started the character design with the concept of a "punk rocker desiring change."
Concept Art
Given the "punk rocker" theme, the direction for the costume was relatively easy to decide. When you think of punk rockers, a leather jacket comes to mind! From there, we considered various hairstyles and colorings.
The above are some of the hairstyle proposals we considered. Just a small change in hairstyle can significantly alter the impression.
Riot’s Gauntlet
The above refers to the design documentation for Riot's gauntlets. We incorporated a punk rocker vibe + Brazen Blaze's theme into the design on the forearm part, featuring chains and speakers.
PRO-TIP: All Runner gauntlet designs are crafted to express the individual personalities of each Runner.
Final Design
As you may have seen, the final design turned out as shown above. We believe we achieved designing a Runner with a distinct personality while completely mirroring Brazen Blaze’s theme.
Battle Specs
Next up - let’s discuss Riot’s in-game specifications!
Concept
Riot is like the embodiment of the game's core. It's about the freedom to move around and have fun with melee combat. Plus, it's a great way to get started with the game's mechanics.
Riot is renowned for its high mobility, which makes movement incredibly enjoyable. Its punch packs significant power, giving players the confidence to engage in aggressive melee combat. Moreover, Riot's gun allows players to chip away at opponents from a distance, adding to its versatility.

Overall, Riot strikes an excellent balance between various elements, making it an all-around powerhouse that players can rely on.
Playing as Riot allows players to grasp the game's basic controls, making Riot highly recommended for those new to Brazen Blaze. Its ability to adapt to any situation means that even experienced players can find Riot effective and enjoyable!
Main Weapon: Battle SMG
Riot's primary weapon is the Battle SMG (Submachine Gun), which has a high rapid-fire capability and can be fired with one hand. It can be used to stun enemies that weren't taken down with punches or to create openings for melee attacks.
While it's designed primarily to support close-quarters combat, it's also intuitive enough for users familiar with FPS games to quickly and effectively engage in combat.
Skill: Healing Echo
Riot's skill is a powerful tool that allows the player and allies within a specific range around them to be healed. As Brazen Blaze is a 3v3 team battle game, Riot comes equipped with the ability to heal allies, the most straightforward form of teamwork.
Using Riot is designed to encourage coordination with teammates, making it an essential tool for victory. Additionally, the ability to heal oneself increases survival rates, making Riot a user-friendly option for beginners.
Ultimate: Uprising Beat
During a certain period, Riot's gauntlets receive an enhancement that increases the knockback power of punches and allows for unlimited use of the boost dash ability. This ultimate skill is designed to provide an exciting experience that fully embodies Brazen Blaze's core principle of freedom of movement, making it a thrilling aspect of gameplay.
Finisher
As the "finishing blow that you can't experience in real life," we aimed for a flashy and easily understood appearance while ensuring that both the player executing the move and the player on the receiving end could enjoy the spectacle. We pursued a sense of satisfaction, repeatedly refining the feature until it became the current presentation.
Surely, everyone has wanted to send their enemy flying to the moon at some point in their lives, right?
Conclusion
After reading this Presidential Bulletin, you'll be ready to enjoy playing as Riot in the upcoming Open Beta Test this spring. We strongly encourage you to try them out with confidence!
Additionally, if you have requests for development episodes about other characters you'd like to hear about, we would be delighted to receive your comments on Discord! Your feedback will be considered for topics in future bulletins.

Presidential Bulletin #1
Intro
Greetings, Runners!

The year of the dragon began with hopes for Brazen Blaze to reach unprecedented heights. Going into the 2nd month, we’ve already achieved a few things we are excited to share with everyone.

And so we begin with our Presidential Bulletins! These will contain all of our updates, including recent events and results, the most recent updates to the game, and all other info we feel is essential for every Runner to know.

To promptly start our first Presidential Bulletin issue, let’s take a quick look at the results of the Open Beta and have a rundown of the basics we believe would help every aspiring Runner PWN the next time. The Lobby doors open!
The Open Beta
The recent 8-day Open Beta run has proven how passionate our team and the community are. We received tremendous feedback from the community on how we can improve the game. To celebrate, let’s look at our Open Beta numbers so far!

Quick Note: Due to Velvet’s mediocre win rate, we're fixing Runner balance issues that should ultimately make her have a better win rate in the future.
Brazen Blaze 101
So, a new challenger arrives at the lobby. You look like you need a hand. Here’s what you need to know before you shoot ‘em rounds and punch ‘em foes sky high.
The Training Room
You can’t just jump into the battlefield; you’ll have to know how to use it! While many skip directly to matches, the tutorial ensures you’re adequately equipped with basic knowledge before beating up other Runners.

You can practice basic movements in the training room and check each Runner’s arsenal, including skills, sub-weapons, and ultimates. Before you hit the road, the training room can help you decide which Runner you’ll be mainly, depending on your playstyle.
Practice your moves and understand each Runner’s capabilities. In no time, you’ll gain complete confidence to go mano-a-mano!
Voice Chat
Communication is a huge factor in winning matches in team competitions, whether in video games or not. While only some people love the idea of talking on voice chat, remember that everyone wants to win games.

If you’re shy, it’s okay - no one’s forcing you. Although, try turning on voice chat! Keep in mind: a coordinated team is a winning team!
Dashing in the Air
Do you know you can dash in the air? You can use both hands to boost while airborne if you're not holding an item (or two, like when Skybolt is using both her guns).

Remember that you dash in the direction your hand is heading, not your head. Use that to your advantage.
This is not an FPS!
Punching is your primary damage dealer! The other stuff - your guns, grenades, and skills - are just for extra damage and/or to make it easier for you to punch them.

Use your guns, grenades, and skills to set yourself or your teammates up for the perfect punching sequence! Remember, you have fists as giant as your head for a reason!
Lock-on!
The fast-paced nature of Brazen Blaze will require you to focus on your enemies. Since it’s a VR game, manually focusing on enemies may cause stiff necks.

Thankfully, there’s a Lock-on system in place! If you find it challenging to lock-on using your sticks, you can change your settings in-game.
Jump like a Gorilla!
Pro-tip: Did you know you can gain extra airtime by using your hands? Smack your palms on the floor and get extra mobility!

By the way, "Gorilla Jump" was a placeholder name for it as it looks like the way gorillas move, but we ended up loving it, making it canon.
Recovering a friend
When an ally staggers and gets stunned, ensure you’re around to heal them back to battle!

You can recover your allies by touching them. Remember, numbers win games!
Healing Items
In every stage, you'll find fixed items glowing in green. Punch them to recover some health!

Initially, you had to grab and use these health items. Still, punching them felt better, considering how important it is to the game.
Move away and Recover!
Battles in Brazen Blaze require you to be smart about your movement. Remember, you don't always have to fight - you have limited health!

Make sure you move away for a while when you’re low. You will slowly recover while doing so, making you ready for another round of fistfights soon enough!
Practice makes Perfect!
Losing matches with one Runner doesn’t mean you suck with other Runners! We have different characters for a reason. Mix and match your playstyle until you find your main!
What’s next?
We recently announced our 2nd Open Beta coming this Spring, 2024, and we can’t wait to bump fists with everyone again!

As we move forward in our journey, your support remains paramount. Your continued feedback will help shape Brazen Blaze into what it’s bound to become in the VR gaming space. Keep in touch with us, and we’ll continue to deliver as always!
