Base Engine Update + Sequel News

Currently live on the beta branch is an update that will help synchronise the different engine versions that are being used for different operating systems. This is an update primarily affecting WINDOWS USERS (as Mac/Linux users were already on this engine version).

Ideally there should be very few visible changes, only some tiny bugfixes and an added word in one dialog line that was missing by accident.

If you are a Windows user and have a bit of free time, we would like to invite you to switch over to the new engine testing branch, play a bit, and ensure that nothing weird happens (I've tested it myself but more eyes are better!) You can access the beta by right-clicking on the game in tyour library and selecting Properties, then Betas, then select the relevant one from the dropdown (renpy 6.99.12.2 - Testing engine upgrade June 2025)

Official changelog:
 • Engine update. This should increase compatiblity with newer machines; it may reduce compatibility with older machines, but machines it breaks are probably also too old to run Steam.,
 • Minor save screen UI improvement.,
 • Fixed a crash in the crash handler in some circumstances.,
 • Fixed a crash saving game logs if you have non-ASCII characters in the path to the save directory on Windows.,
 • Angle (alternate 3D acceleration) renderer selectable on Win32.,
 • "who might had sympathy"→"who might have had sympathy" fixed.

If you haven't heard already, the Galaxy Princess Zorana kickstarter is currently live! We are aiming for a release by the end of the year, though some of that depends on testing. Look it up on Kickstarter to get in early or claim special offers, or wishlist on Steam to wait for the final release!

Galaxy Princess Zorana is now live on kickstarter

Hello out there! Just posting to let you know that Galaxy Princess Zorana, the followup game to Long Live The Queen, is now funding on kickstarter. This is your chance to get in for early bird discounts and exclusive perks.

But if you're not interested in kickstarter, that's fine, the game WILL be coming to steam eventually!

We've just added the trailer to the Steam page so feel free to check that out.

Adjusting Achievement Syncing

We've put out a small update that almost no one should notice. Basically, one achievement (Unexpected Pairing - the commoner romance) was not syncing correctly between the steam account and the local copy, so if you'd unlocked it on Steam and then played the game on another computer, your in-game copy wouldn't show that achievement until you unlocked it on THAT machine.

This has now been corrected to work like the other achievements do.

Nothing else should be affected, but if you encounter any strange behavior please do let us know.

As for Galaxy Princess Zorana, the game development is actually VERY advanced at this point, what's holding us back from launching a KS and starting beta tests is trailer development rather than game development. We've had a few pipeline issues getting a cool trailer made and we don't want to launch that without one. Hang in there, I promise the game is still proceeding as planned!

The Larger Universe

So here at last is the announcement we had hoped to provide earlier: the expansion of the Long Live The Queen universe!

(Yes, I know some people are tired of franchises being called 'universes' but a) we couldn't call the group page just 'Long Live The Queen' because it would create a Steam naming conflict with the game, and b) since we're moving into the future in the stars, it truly is expanding the game universe.)

For detailed information and further updates, please clickthrough and wishlist/follow that title!

However I will cover a few basic questions about it here:
Is this definitely the same universe/setting?
Yes. Even though we're starting off in a different place and time, anyone who's played the first game will quickly see connections to the original setting, though it will take some exploration to find out more.
Is this a direct sequel? Does my playthrough carry over?
No. This game is far removed in space and time from the original story. Elodie is a distant historical figure only.
Will I still die a lot?
Probably! There are dozens of different characters who are capable of plotting your demise if you upset them and those assassinations can occur at any point, on top of all the story-related ways you can meet your doom.
Is there real-time 3d space combat?
It's not that kind of game. It's still very much LLTQ, but with a bigger map to move around on and more characters to negotiate with. You will still be picking classes, changing outfits, and managing moods.
What features are new?
Too much to cover but to mention a few things - skillcheck bubbles now give an indication of roughly how difficult any test was so that you have an idea of how much you'd need to train to pass it, you can hire advisors to provide certain skills for you if you don't have time to learn them, menu choices have a 'random' option if you can't make up your mind or just want to do a silly see-what-happens playthrough... Beyond that you should really go check out the new game page and ask in the discussions over there!
When will the game be out?
Sorry, I don't have a launch date yet. It is still in development. I am hoping for a kickstarter soon and the beta-test period to begin soon after that and then we'll see. It's not quite playable end-to-end at this point but there's many hours of playable content already.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2025! (Well, depending on timezone)

I had serious hopes that I was going to be able to unveil the new game's steam page to you during the sale but unfortunately it is still in review (well, it IS the holidays after all) so for now I can only tease you with this:

If you haven't heard of this before, this is a new game in the same universe as Long Live The Queen, the protagonist is the daughter of the recently-vanished Evil Emperor, and yes there will be skills to learn and deaths to avoid and politics to unravel. The Steam page SHOULD be available in the next couple of weeks with more information and screenshots. Watch this space (well, watch this game) for updates!

In the meantime, we are coming to the end of the Winter Sale! As usual, all of our products are available on discount:
