The Concept Art of Sons of Valour
Behind the Masks: Designing the Sons of Valour Faction in Whispers of the Eyeless
[p][/p][p]Today we wanted to share some behind-the-scenes insights and concept art from the process of designing the Sons of Valour - one of the most iconic factions in Whispers of the Eyeless. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The Sons of Valour are a small, elite group whose members are chosen with great care. Their faces are always hidden behind masks, which are never to be removed in the presence of others, not even fellow brothers. Besides their remarkable swordsmanship, they have a unique power of telling if someone will commit a crime in the future. This strict code, as well as the aura of secrecy and power, was central to our visual exploration of the group.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Concept 1: The Hussar-Inspired Warrior
[p]Our first concept drew inspiration from the legendary Polish hussars. The design features hussar-like armor layered over chainmail, with soft boots for silent movement. A leopard skin cloak was supposed to add a sense of danger and prestige, while the crossed swords and diamond motif serve as the group’s signature emblem. The sketch emphasizes a striking silhouette and the rich textures of the materials, aiming to capture both the martial prowess and exclusivity of the Sons of Valour.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Concept 2: The Chainmail Hood and Fur Cap
[p]The second concept explored a more practical and grounded look. Here, the character wears a chainmail hood paired with a traditional Polish fur cap (bobrzy kołpak). The sword, prominently displayed at the belt, signals readiness and authority. The sketch highlights the contrast between the metallic chainmail and the soft fur, creating a sense of both danger and nobility.[/p][p][/p]

Concept 3: The Sarmatian Noble
[p]For the third concept, we looked to the Sarmatians - a historical class of Polish nobility known for their distinctive dress and martial traditions. The character in the sketch wears a full Sarmatian robe over chainmail. As for the weapon, we were considering either a saber, reflecting Sarmatian heritage, or a massive sword reminiscent of the Teutonic knights, carried under the arm. [/p][p][/p]
The Masks
[p]And finally, the most vital part of Sons of Valour's design - the masks. We explored a variety of shapes and details, but all share a common trait: they are expressionless, with only eyeholes breaking the surface. This lack of emotion is intentional, making the wearer appear mysterious and unsettling. In Whispers of the Eyeless, the masks reflect the wearer’s rank, and only the most distinguished members are allowed to mark their masks with unique symbols.[/p][p][/p][p]To us, designing the Sons of Valour was about balancing historical inspiration with the lore of Whispers of the Eyeless.
