Update #3

[p]Hey all![/p][p]It’s time for another update for Midnight Special![/p][p]This one focuses mostly on fixing issues, polishing existing content, and addressing a few more serious problems that slipped past us.[/p][p]First up, here are the new features:[/p][p][/p][p]Juke Box Player[/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Jukebox – You can now add and play vinyls you find in the game at any time[/p]
  • [p]1 new song added: "Loaded Gun", alongside a band bio and album art[/p]
  • [p]Added the ability to sit in the beanbag and listen to music (new animations)[/p]
  • [p]Added a sound snapshot that muffles the music when outside the Rumpus Room[/p]
  • [p]The Reload Perk is still disabled until the Weapon Update[/p][p][/p]
[p]Family Portrait (Close-Up)[/p]
  • [p]The portrait now changes dynamically based on the player's actions (e.g., finding the shotgun, the necklace, as well as sanity—all are reflected in the close-up)[/p]
  • [p]This close-up is active when the kids and Jon Sr. are missing from the portrait, and only Shelly is visible[/p]
[p]And now, the issues (bolded = serious issues that affected gameplay):[/p]
  • [p]Simplified Kitchen Fridge Interaction - Player no longer needs to use the lighter to trigger the Henry Sequence[/p]
  • [p]Added snapback to organ pieces in the organ puzzle, ensuring they don't get stuck[/p]
  • [p]Fixed guest room trigger that required the player to walk in order to trigger the Void scripted event[/p]
  • [p]Fixed issue where having the lighter on while the run prompt appears would softlock the game[/p]
  • [p]Fixed issue where the player could not run after dying/game over in Mawie[/p]
  • [p]Fixed/removed the ability to drop Tina (the doll) in puzzles and closeups[/p]
  • [p]Fixed issue where connecting a controller would make the game mouse stop functioning[/p]
  • [p]Fixed logic puzzle issue where picking up an organ puzzle piece and placing it into a drawer would cause the organ puzzle to softlock[/p]
  • [p]Fixed mouse teleport issue after placing cheese[/p]
  • [p]Computer UI localization supplement[/p]
  • [p]Fixed Tina teleport issue[/p]
  • [p]Fixed Sarah teleport issue that caused duplication of dialogue/waking up on the couch twice[/p]
  • [p]Fixed dialogue duplication (interacting with TV and then loading a game save)[/p]
[p]Thank you all so much for your patience and support. Feel free to join our Discord or post on the community forums with any issues or questions you may have.[/p][p][/p][p]Sincerely,[/p][p]The Scared Stupid Inc. Team[/p]

Major Update #2

[p]Hey all![/p][p]It's time for another major update for Midnight Special![/p][p]We've been hard at work, and we're excited to announce that this update contains a new objective that leans a little bit more into body horror — I hope you guys aren't too squeamish.[/p][p]In addition to the aforementioned objective, we’ve also added new localized languages, and we've polished and fixed several issues![/p][p][/p][p]New Content:[/p]
  • [p]New Room: The Golden Room (This room allows the player to go back to sleep at any time and explore the dream sequences — this design will be expanded in future updates.)[/p]
  • [p]New Mechanic: Pinch (This new inventory item allows you to wake up from a nightmare at any time — available after the prologue.)[/p]
  • [p]New Puzzle: The Organ/Salt Puzzle (The Salt inventory item is now part of a puzzle which must be completed in order to progress the story.)
    [/p]
  • [p]New Interactions/Dialogue: Bob's Tenant (Back by popular request, Bob's Tenant is back with some new quips.)
    [/p]
  • [p]New Objectives (Linked to the Salt Puzzle.)[/p]
  • [p]New Tina the Doll hints added (Salt Puzzle)[/p]
  • [p]Various sound/FX improvements (Documents now have sound cues when they are opened or updated.)[/p]
[p]Localization:[/p][p]We've added 4 new languages[/p]
  • [p]Korean[/p]
  • [p]Portuguese[/p]
  • [p]French[/p]
  • [p]German[/p]
[p]Fixes/Polish:[/p]
  • [p]Pick-up items and documents pop-ups should be more consistent and should notify the player.[/p]
  • [p]Various localization issues have been fixed.[/p]
  • [p]Tina the Doll polish.[/p]
  • [p]Various sound/FX issues fixed/polished.[/p]
[p][/p][p]Known issues we're working on:[/p]
  • [p]Currently, if you interact with the TV and then load a save, a piece of dialogue repeats itself after load — we're currently looking into fixing this.[/p]
  • [p]Some players may occasionally encounter repeated dialogue text in the Golden Room. We’ve identified the cause and will fix it in the next update.[/p]
  • [p]There is also a known issue where, after interacting with Tina the Doll, she may not disappear, and the diary you receive may not show up in the inventory. We’ve tracked down the cause and will include a fix in the next update.[/p][p]We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to us through Discord or Steam community![/p]
[p][/p][p]Thank you all so much for your patience and support. Feel free to join our Discord or post on the community forums with any issues or questions you may have.[/p][p][/p][p]Sincerely,[/p][p]The Scared Stupid Inc. Team[/p]

We’ve been nominated!

🎉Great news: Midnight Special is nominated for Best Upcoming Romanian Game at the Romanian Game Awards!
🥰Huge thanks to the jury & all your support. We’ll keep improving the game to bring you the best experience possible. Stay tuned!

Let the porting commence!

In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be taking a look at porting Midnight Special to the Steam Deck.

Most of the work is already done; however, we still need to add special UI elements (QTEs) for controller support and ensure there are no edge case issues or crashes.

Thankfully, we’ve enlisted the help of Houdini, the port-savvy cat—so let’s all place our trust in her capable paws.
