Pixel Piracy - Shrimp Legacy

Hey!

Next Week, I will release a Supporter DLC for the Pixel Piracy called Pixel Piracy - Shrimp Legacy; this is a standalone companion software for the Pixel Piracy that has three features. Many of you suggested that I should do a supporter DLC, so this is my way of doing it!

Features:

  • It has narrated lore that explores the world of pixel piracy and explains the origins of how pirates came to be, lore is profound and will give everyone now a sense of what can be expected from Pixel Piracy and in what direction Pixel Piracy will go.
  • It has beautiful chill ambient screensavers; you can use them while you study or program.
  • It has a gamification element in the form of a cookie clicker, you farm shrimps, and then you unlock new lore bits.

As for the Pixel Piracy, the next Pixel Piracy Update, 1.2.10, will have content and a new feature, so stay tuned for that, should be out within 10 days!

Thank you for your support in advance!

1.2.7 Patchnotes

Hey!

First of all, thank you for the encouragement, i appreciate it; the amount of support i got from you all is overwhelming, and physically it's just impossible to thank everyone, but know that i appreciate you for sticking around and giving me support; it's empowering.

I have finally deployed full version 1.2.7; check the patch notes.

  • Fixed Bug where sometimes you could not view weapon inventory or sell view.
  • Fixed Bug where sometimes Shop Scrollbar would not properly hide when closing UI.
  • Fixed Bug where you could not command your crew to move on your ship during the Cannon Phase of Sea Battle.
  • Fixed Bug where Bloom and Depth options were not applied correctly; the user has to restart the game first.
  • Fixed Bug where fleeing Pirates that were ordered by the player would fight back if attacked.
  • Fixed Bug where Panda Island had incorrect pathfinding data.
  • Fixed Bug where sometimes shop UI would appear for Most Wanted board.
  • AI: When Grappling, the AI now shuts down as it is not needed while the Pirate is on a rope.
  • UI: Sell UI now has three columns instead of 2.
  • Performance: If you have many pirates and you try to grapple to the island, the game will lag; this is fixed.
  • Combat: Passive Units will now turn hostile when you actually attack them, rather than when you assign an attack icon
  • Balance: 30% Chance to start the game without any food.

This is a substantial Bug Fix update, but work doesn't end here; the next update is already in the works, and you know what? It will be the first content update with a new feature. So, stay tuned for that!

Developer Message #2

Hey Guys!

It seems I have to provide some context as to why i have returned after all these years to work on Pixel Piracy.

Background

First, Pixel Piracy as a game was unpolished and unrealized back in the day, i was unskilled and young; when i made Pixel Piracy, i honestly was, but now i am a different person, and i want to fix things from the past, let's be clear about this. If you are skeptical, you have the right to this.

Secondly, and this is important, Pixel Piracy and Pixel Privateers became a traumatic experience after the last months of Quadro Delta during 2016-2017, and in 2017, when i discovered that Alexander Poysky was selling Pixel Piracy CD-Keys to CD-Key Resellers behind my back, few merchants can confirm this story. The CD-Key giveaway was quite a convenient way to perform a ruse and sell CD-Keys on the side, as illustrated by the screenshot. The critical factor, however, is that evidence is essential, i can prove everything i am saying if needed.

You can cross-examine my Reddit post from 5+ years ago https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/8pj3x9/i_got_abused_because_i_trusted_my_game_industry/

I was never sued for this Reddit post.

Alex bribing CD-Key Reseller:

Alex generates over 650k+ Pixel Piracy CD-Keys during lifetime:

Tom from Valve re-generated the Keys that Alex generated:

During the last crucial months of QD, Alex sabotaged QD and made it difficult for me to focus on securing funding for the Company because our relationship worsened and distracted me; this killed QD and Pixel Privateers.

Then i learned what he was doing behind my back; it devasted and traumatized me. To this day, i have not received any justice and carry this prolonged life trauma; it dictates my behavior of not trusting anyone; he was my best friend.

I reported all this to the Finnish Police, and we drafted a letter to the Spanish Police because Finnish Police have no jurisdiction in Spain. But I was never summoned, and nothing noteworthy happened there. I guess they did not care about Pixel Piracy and some CD Keys, i just wanted justice. I contacted a Spanish lawyer, and he wanted 50€ euro consultation fee; after i sent the money, he never got back to me; at that point, i was exhausted to continue and just realized that I would never get justice.

So, i decided to remove myself from the traumatizing environment; perhaps it was me giving up for real, so i started creating other games to move on with my life, i was working on another game for four years, it was a passion project of mine, and i loved it, players did not like it tho ːsteamhappyː. After completing the game and some passing moments, the situation changed, and I was available to do something new, and what do you know, a few updates later, we are here.

I have been holding this information all this time and doing nothing about it, somewhat paralyzed, and only recently, i asked myself, why? I did nothing wrong or unlawful in this situation; was I afraid? It only recently occurred to me that my silence made the situation worse by not saying anything to people all these years, i am, in fact, potentially making it look like i did something wrong; by not doing anything, I gave people the power to miss represent the situation. I can't tell otherwise why i came back; it would not be genuine.

There is no other way to represent this situation, and it's not something i can say to anyone on forums without context to the whole situation.

Now

Pixel Piracy has immense untapped potential, and I am here to harness it now.

So, For Pixel Piracy to come back, the past has to be documented and explained to make sense, but it's not everything; today's game market is quite skewed, and remakes are being self-censored in fear of offending someone. I want to state that Pixel Piracy will always remain Pixel Piracy, and no self-censorship will occur, even if it means taking heat.

https://i.gyazo.com/fdb061f8af9bc30787886f22f28a780c.png

Pixel Piracy, as being classic, actually means that it's a game that can't exist in the current society without offending someone.

I am against hate speech, burning religious books, or racism. And i strongly believe that self-censorship is the death of the author. The fact that people are talking about Pixel Piracy is proof that the game has to come back, as it has an audience that wants more. I will explore topics that prevailed during the time of Piracy without compromise to cater to these loyal fans despite what has occurred in the past.

Those that have been banned can request an unban by emailing me at [email protected], i give you a chance, and you give me.

The previous Moderation rule was not working as i intended; after consulting Valve's documentation on community moderation, i am removing myself from the hardline moderation and giving users the option freely express themselves, as long as they follow steam community guidelines: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6862-8119-C23E-EA7B

I will be looking for Steam Forum Moderators in the near future.

Next: Stay tuned for more game updates!

Hey Guys!

First of all, big thanks for the overwhelming support; it means a lot; it's one of the reasons why i decided to write this post and a pledge that i decided to commit to the game for the next six months and try my best to expand the game as best as i can, this means new content and bug fixes.

The roadmap structure will be created later; I am currently coming up with a schedule and format on how I will be delivering content. I can't wait to reveal my plans! ːsteamhappyː

When coming back, i did not have anything particular in mind; I just wanted to fix a few bugs where pirates get stuck, etc., that's all. But as i worked more on the game and saw players be quite enthusiastic about PP, I decided to change my plans...

Additionally, regarding the moderation, as you all know, it's just me doing community management. It takes unnecessary energy to filter out trolls and toxic members within the community, and i have a stance where i generally try not to answer them; why should i give my attention to some troll instead of an enthusiastic fan?

I have been thinking about how i will approach my communication with the community, and i decided to embody a role of a pirate captain in a literal sense and do PR to ease my job and remove emotion from the community management.

So moving forward regarding the moderation, i will enforce a strict version of the Rules and Guidelines For Steam to save my energy and channel it into developing the product; what only matters is a good product, i am going to create an environment where that will be possible.

So, from now on, consider that the community forum is a pirate ship or my home, and you are a crew or a guest. If you don't play by the rules, you will be banned; i will be walking you off the plank.

TDLR; 1) Big thanks for the support. 2) I will be working on the game for six months 3) i will ban toxic members without warning; PP forums are not a place for drama.

Note: Last Night, there was a build malfunction; I fixed this. I believe there will be a few weeks of pain before i get the infrastructure in place, i am going to work towards automated testing of the game.
