Episode 4.1 - current progress & previews

Hi everyone, it's time for small news about the new update!

As you can see above, we’re halfway through writing the scripts for the new update. These should be ready by early February. The full outline of the update is already set - we know exactly what we want to achieve and the direction we’re heading in.

Regarding renders and animations, we’ve nearly finished two large, new scenes, along with eight animations that we’re sure you’re going to love. Progress is going really well, no delays so far, and there’s even a chance we’ll hire additional artists to help push the project forward.

Programming and testing are on the same level. We’ve fixed all reported issues, so from now on, it’s all about adding new features.

I have big plans for Steps of Debauchery this year and clear goals I want to reach. Taking some time to recharge my batteries helped a lot, so right now, our only bottleneck is the number of artists. If you know anyone who creates great artwork, let them know we’re still hiring!

That should be it, here are a few images from the new scenes. Wishing you a lovely Sunday and a great week ahead. Talk to you soon!

Ps. Red-haired Riley is used exclusively in bonus scenes created for our supporters and based on their story outlines. These are additional scenes, and our brown-haired Riley hasn’t dyed her hair.

Starting the Year Strong: Big Plans for Steps of Debauchery in 2025!

Hi everyone!

We’re kicking off the year with a bang! Everything is back on track as I'm already fully recovered. I have big plans for this year, mostly focused on Steps of Debauchery. My goal is to make significant progress with the story by the end of the year so that we can move closer to its conclusion in 2026. I’m not sure how many updates will come out this year, but I’m aiming to create around 12,000 renders and a lot of animations in 2025.

On top of the main storyline, we’ve also got some additional content planned for SoD. I can’t share the details just yet, but you can expect something big!

I didn’t mention this earlier, but during the work on update 4.0 last year, we created three big extra scenes featuring the red-haired Riley. We’ll be adding these scenes one by one to future updates since they’re very spicy! Even though we just got back from vacation, most of the scripts for episode 4.1 are already done, and we’ve started working on new renders.

You might have also seen some news about recruitment - we’re actively looking for new artists to speed up the development of updates and to make bigger scenes possible. It’s not easy because we focus on quality over quantity, and finding experienced artists is really tough. But I’m doing my best to deliver the best product for you, no matter the cost.

So, what can you expect in the next update?

  • A new scene with Riley and Jirina
  • A bit of rivalry (or maybe teamwork) between Riley and Madison as Dean’s assistants
  • A meeting with Richard
  • Solving Wesley’s problems
  • Progress in the marriage storyline

And a few other surprises - but I can’t spoil everything! We’re back at full speed now, and I’ll share the first progress update with you in about two weeks.

In the meantime, if you haven’t left a review yet, I’d really appreciate it! Your feedback means a lot to me and helps increase the game’s visibility, which also supports hiring new artists.

Hi in the New Year!

Hi everyone! How are you doing?

I just got back home after the holidays, so it’s time for my first post of the new year! I’d love to say I’m fully rested and ready to work, but honestly, my fiancée and I are exhausted from the trip, and we both came back with colds. But don’t worry, it sounds worse than it is. We had a great time, and it was exactly what we needed. A few days in bed will help us recharge completely. :)

Next week, I’m also heading back to my job at the fire department. It feels a bit strange, almost like it’s my first day again, even though I’ve been doing this for over 10 years. Still, I’ve really missed it, so I’m looking forward to getting back.

That’s all for the introduction. Even though I’m not feeling my best, I’m excited to dive back into working on Episode 4.1 Steps of Debauchery. Honestly, I couldn’t sit still during the holidays, so we’ve already made good progress - we’ve created several new scripts, started working on animations and scenes, and fixed the bugs from the last update (especially in the new Polish translation).

I’m not ready to announce the exact release date yet, but we’re aiming for late February/early March. It’ll be a smaller update, focusing more on additional features around the story rather than the story itself, but I’ll share more details soon. For now, I’m heading back to bed to recover. Talk to you soon!

P.S. I’m back on Discord, so I’ll be replying to all messages.
P.S.2 Don’t forget to leave a review on Steam if you haven’t yet!

External Update... and stuff

Hey there!
We just released a small update. What’s new if you play now?

  • We’ve fixed all the bugs reported so far, especially the translation issues.
  • Auto-forward should finally work properly now, so you won’t have to keep clicking (unless you want to).
  • We’ve also added a Polish translation of the game! If you speak Polish, be sure to check it out and let us know what you think (if you don’t, well, it probably won’t be your thing).
  • We’ve added collectibles! Soon (we’re still waiting for Steam to approve it), you’ll be able to unlock 7 trading cards, 8 Riley-themed emoticons, 4 character backgrounds, and 6 badges while playing. We hope you’ll enjoy them!

...

My dear friends, I wish you all painfully joyful, blissfully peaceful, and overwhelmingly happy holidays. ❤️

May the fleeting, fragile hope these days bring last you through the long, arduous year ahead in our senseless, purposeless existence.

Against all odds, may your very being fill the endless void of the cold, chaotic entropy of the universe.

Stay awesome and see you next year,
Fooxied

Post-Release Thoughts and Plans

A few days have passed since the release, so now with a clear head, it’s time for a quick recap of the last update of the year, plans for the coming weeks, and a look at what’s ahead for next year. Hi there!

Let’s start with the latest update. Overall, I’m pretty happy with it. From what I’ve read, most of you received it quite positively, except the usual complaints about "so short", "add my favorite path", "such a long wait for nothing". I’ve responded to these points after every update, but I’ll do it again here. Update 4.0 took me two months to make, working 14–16 hours a day, including weekends, and giving up social outings and personal enjoyments like the Stalker and PoE2 releases I’d been looking forward to (still haven’t played them). Comments like these make me a bit sad because I put so much of myself into this, but the reaction are always the same, no matter how hard I try. As for paths like Richard’s, not every path gets touched in every update - you’ll sometimes need to wait longer. So, if small updates aren’t your thing, it might be better to wait for 3–4 updates to drop or just hold out for the full release in 2026.

That said, I don’t want to sound bitter. I’m still happy with where we are now. Over the past 14 months since the game’s release, I think we’ve made huge progress. The renders are at a solid quality level, and the animations have significantly improved, so our focus now is on maintaining this standard.

The latest update also marks a turning point many of you were waiting for, but I also want to mention that there are not going to be a lot of branching paths - for example, the LI choice in the park quest had some importance but wasn’t crucial enough to warrant separate saves. You’ll see more in the next update. For now, we’re planning 4 main endings with some smaller variations.

Before moving on, I want to say thank you. When I launched the game in October 2023, I never imagined it would become my hobby, passion, and main source of income. This wouldn’t have been possible without your support. Thanks to you, I can create this game and not worry about tomorrow. Starting in January, I’ll be returning to my main job as a firefighter, but I’ll still dedicate all my free time to the game to keep updates coming every 2–3 months. And yes, they’ll be the same size as the current ones. I prefer to make smaller updates, but more often.

In three days, I’m taking my first proper break in a long time. I can’t remember a single day in the past 14 months when I wasn’t working on the game or at least thinking about what to add or improve. These two weeks should help me recharge so I can come back ready to continue Riley’s story.

As I mentioned, the full version of Steps of Debauchery is planned for 2026. We don’t want to stretch this project endlessly, and we already have a clear vision of what we want to deliver. The next update will likely come in March. Updates 4.1 and 4.2 will be smaller, as usual, focusing on side stories, slight progress in the main plot, and expanding additional features like jobs and free roam. We’ll also add some optional elements that we hope you’ll enjoy. I won’t spoil everything, though as that would ruin the fun! :)

Lot of reading, huh? So here’s the conclusion: Updates will stay small because we simply don’t have the resources (i.e., 3D artists) to create more scenes faster. Quality will always come before quantity. I’ve scheduled a few posts for you while I’m away so you don’t forget about me.

Once again, thank you. Together, we’re building something truly special, and who knows what else we’ll create in the future. I wish you all a peaceful Christmas filled with time well-spent with your loved ones, and a great start to the new year. Go crush your goals and make all your plans happen.

Thanks, and see you soon!

Ps. There is a Christmas Sale on Steam and you can get both Steps of Debauchery and Bright Lord in nice discounts, even in a bundle! Once you get your version, don't forget to leave a review!
