We say "final" beta, because we have some big news to share...

After an announcement that everyone thought was an April fools joke, 3 betas, tons of amazing feedback, countless incredible suggestions and hundreds of thousands of ducks joining the flock, we're bringing DUCKSIDE to Early Access later this month!

The Early Access version will contain a number of massive additions, which we will be sharing over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for more info!

But with that big announcement out of the way, let's get back to the beta which you can play right now...

In order to access the beta, all you need to do is head over to the Steam page, scroll down to "DUCKSIDE Playtest" and click "Request Access" and the game will be added to your account.

Check out the changelist below:
What's New
• Resource balance rework: Based on player feedback, we have changed the resource gather amount and all the prices for crafting
 • Mixing Table: Crafting some ingredients took a lot of time, now you can use the mixing table to automate a lot of this.
 • Shotgun trap: A new way to protect home against unwanted visitors is the shotgun trap, which shoots any duck that is not registered inside the base.
 • Night vision goggles: Night is usually time to rest and organize the base. Some particularly bloodthirsty ducks however want to roam at night, now they have a tool for this.
 • Land Mine: Hidden trap to protect your base, can be place it on the ground near the base
 • Fire axe: Unique higher tier axe that can gather wood and ore
 • Further optimization and stability improvement
 • Other under the hood tweaks and improvements

As with all of our previous betas, we invite you to share your thoughts and feedback both via an in game feedback from, which will pop up when you exit the game and on our Discord, which you can join HERE.

With release now just around the corner, all your feedback will be invaluable in helping us ensure a smooth launch and the best possible experience for you all on September 25th!

DUCKSIDE | July Development Update

It’s been a few weeks since the second DUCKSIDE beta concluded now, so we thought it would be a great time to update you all on what’s going on behind the scenes and some of our plans for the coming months!

While we’ve shared in our previous announcement some of our short term focuses (much of which is now either complete or well in development) today, we’re going to share some of the longer term development plans and content that we’ll be working on to bring us through to release:
New Biomes
Grass and trees are great and all, but would ducks even bother migrating if they had some massive desert expanses just a few kilometers down the road, or glacial planes on the other side of a local mountain? Who knows, we’re not duck experts, we’re game developers and we want to add some cool new areas for the ducks to explore without them getting too tired, so we’re going to do that.

Alongside the visual changes we talked about in our last development update, DUCKSIDE will be seeing some major visual improvements and additional natural diversity over the coming months!
New Monuments
The humans are busy building some new stuff to die in at the hands of some recently sentience-imbued ducks, even going so far as to build off shore now, like that’s going to deter flying creatures that love water...

But yeah, we’re working on some cool new POIs to explore, and we’d love to get some suggestions from you folks for additional ones that might fit into this world!
Mixing Table
Ducks only have so much time in the day, so spending that time crafting items en masse is time that could be spent killing things or building cool nests wasted.

Therefore, in the interest of spending more time killing and building, we are introducing a mixing table to speed up the crafting of large amounts of items.
Character Controller Rework
Telepathic ducks really drive home how crazy the situation has gotten over on the DUCKSIDE Archipelago, but having guns floating around the ducks head detracts a little from the gritty, realistic and somber tone we're going for with this game, so in the interest of being taken seriously once award season comes around, we're working to have the ducks actually hold their weapons.
Shotgun Trap
Trespassing is a crime, and crimes should result in consequences. We feel that being blown to smithereens unexpectedly is a suitable consequence for ducks breaking into your house, so we’ve added shotgun traps to the game.

If you’re a nice, law abiding duck, you won’t have to worry about these too much. If you’re the kind of duck that broke into my house and stole all my metal fragments and my crossbow during the last beta, you’re the reason this happened and you should feel bad.
And more!
Obviously, these are just some of the cooler things we’re working on but we’re also coming up with new ideas everyday, and working on a ton of other awesome stuff that we’ll share when the time is right!
DUCKSIDE when?!
Finally, the question you folks have been asking since roughly 0.36s after the last beta ended: “When can we play DUCKSIDE again?”

Well, we're working away on the next build of the game as we speak and of course are now making some plans on how to get all your feedback on the latest changes and additions ahead of the official launch, so stay tuned for news!

The DUCKSIDE Beta has now finished | A look to the future

Hello Everyone,

We've had an amazing three weeks on DUCKSIDE, thanks to the hard work of our development team and the incredible success of the Steam Next Fest. With over 200,000 ducks joining the flock and an unexpected meteor collision, we've now successfully wrapped up the second BETA for DUCKSIDE.

We want to extend our thanks to all of you who participated. Your feedback, suggestions, insights, and positivity have been invaluable in helping us improve, develop, and grow the game over the last few weeks. It has been a fantastic journey working with all of you once again, and we can't wait to see you all in game again soon!

And of course, with the culmination the beta, we thought now would be the perfect time to share some of our plans for the future of DUCKSIDE, so today we're going to detail some of the near future development goals
Nature/Environment Art Overhaul
We love nature, Ducks love nature, and we want to create world that both of us can (not so peacefully) co-exist in and enjoy! So with that in mind, we're currently exploring an overhaul of the natural environments on the DUCKSIDE Archipelago to both improve and build upon the visual aesthetic of the game alongside facilitating a wider range of gameplay experiences and play styles.

Something we're keen to avoid is going too realistic. The world of DUCKSIDE already has a lot of character and vibrancy, and that's something we want to maintain. Our goal instead is to flesh it out with more lush, diverse and immersive areas in keeping with the stylized look that DUCKSIDE is known for.

Below, we've shared the current art style, and a visualization of our concepts for improving the world, alongside some ideas and details about our reasoning and vision:

Trees:
 • Lusher and darker for better composition and separation from the ground.
 • Increased quantity, with birches for color contrast and younger trees for realism and diversity.
Grass and bushes:
 • More diverse grass to create a dynamic landscape.
 • Additional bushes to complement tree compositions, especially in forest areas.
Cliffs:
 • Minimalist texture with less tiling, contrasting nicely with green grass and dark water.
 • Rocky shores and interesting rock formations, including bridge-like shapes and tunnel-like holes for visual appeal.
Other:
 • Shores should be made of sand, dirt, or cliffs, not grass.
 • Additional adjustments are planned for further enhancement.
Base Defense Mechanics
Over the course of the beta we identified that base raids were both far too common, and far too easy for anyone with the adequate firepower or equipment due to a lack of defensive mechanisms being currently available. With that, the team have begun formulating ideas for further base defense systems, starting with turrets which we hope to have implemented ahead of the next public hands on of the game. This will ensure your base remains protected even when you're not logged in.
Resource Balance Overhaul
We are reworking how resources are gathered, spent, and valued in-game. Currently, resource prices are set around a base of 10, with items costing, for example, 15 or 40 units. We aim to adjust these prices, introducing a degree of inflation to provide greater flexibility in rewards and overall gameplay experience.
Expanded Clothing and Armor Options
Customisation is a request we see coming up a lot from our players, so we are expanding our crafting system to include trousers, in addition to jackets, with specific attributes that will further aid players in specific situations. The main goal here is to enhance customization and make crafting prices more meaningful and balanced.
Weapon Balance Adjustments
Nobody likes seeing every enemy kitted up with whatever weapon is dominating the "meta" at that particular point in time, so we are in the process of fine-tuning the balance of weapon damage. Some weapons will see an increase in power, while others will be adjusted downwards to ensure a fair and engaging combat experience and multiple viable options for combat engagements.
Potential New Weapons
If time permits, we plan to introduce new weapons to the game. The specific types of weapons are still under consideration, but they will be designed to enhance gameplay variety and excitement.
Anti-Cheat Measures
We are exploring alternate anti-cheat systems as we speak, with the aim being to provide a more secure and fair gaming environment for all players. No decisions have been made on this front, but we hope to come to a decision ahead of the next hands-on of the game for the public.
And more!
Obviously, there's much more than this in the pipeline, but these are some of our immediate focuses for the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more news on what to expect from the future of DUCKSIDE!
