Start Your Career in SubwaySim 2

We’ve just returned home from our SubwaySim 2 Launch Event in Berlin. You can already find a few impressions from it on our Instagram channel – and more detailed impressions are coming soon.

Important: As of today, the first preview videos of the game are live on YouTube. Feel free to leave us your feedback here on Steam and on Discord – we’re excited to hear your thoughts!

As announced last week, today’s post is all about Career Mode. This is a new game mode in SubwaySim 2 where you step into the shoes of a Berlin or Hamburg subway driver and face the daily challenges of operational life.
What is Career Mode?
So what does it look like exactly? You can start your career directly from the main menu or from the city page. From there, you choose one of three shifts you’d like to take on. A shift consists of multiple tasks and usually starts – unlike a classic timetable ride – somewhere along the route. You wait until a colleague drives the train into the station, and then you take over the train there.

The shifts vary in length and difficulty – from simple, short shifts to long and demanding duties. So there's something for everyone – whether you’re a beginner or a pro. During operations, random events can occur that you’ll need to react to. For example, construction sites may cause a line to be short-turned. There are also random incidents leading to unexpected line closures – complete with appropriate announcements.
Disruptions
Random events also include disruptions. For instance, a passenger might activate an emergency column, triggering a danger signal – either while at a station or while leaving it. So stay alert at all times! Also, due to the random line closures, you might need to turnaround at a station unexpectedly.

You might also encounter a defective signal. In that case, you’ll need to radio the control centre yourself to find out if it’s an actual malfunction. Since SubwaySim 2’s trains finally feature a working train stop system, you’ll have to pass the signal with the stop system overridden. (Don’t worry, we explain how to do this in the game.)

Speaking of the train stop system: Berlin’s small-profile network features numerous speed monitoring points (Gü). Always stick to the speed limits – otherwise, the next Gü will bring you to a halt.
Experience and Achievements
If you successfully complete a shift – meaning you finish your duties without major mistakes – you’ll receive a summary of your run along with experience points. These points are credited to your career profile and let you level up. You’ll also regularly earn new ranks. And on top of that, you can now collect achievements – across all game modes!

All aboard – stay with us over the next few days for even more exciting SubwaySim 2 updates and announcements!
What is it about?
Thanks to our cooperation with the BVG, an exclusive special ride with an HK train on the BVG network will take place on Saturday, 26 April. And for the participants of the special ride, there’s even the chance to experience the driver’s cab and the view of the tracks up close.

We’ll start in the morning with a special HK ride toward Krumme Lanke. After turning around, we’ll continue to the Olympia-Stadion station, where the ride ends. Afterwards, we’ll visit the U-Bahn Museum right at the station. There you’ll have the opportunity to play SubwaySim 2 together with some influencers. The exact departure time will be shared directly with the winners.
