Weekly DevLog: AL1 Battery Locomotive & LB6 Wagon

[p]First of all, we want to apologize for the confusion in the past few weeks:[/p][p]Our current posts are weekly DevLogs giving you insights into the ongoing development. These are not finished features yet but rather a behind-the-scenes look at what we’re working on.
[/p]

The AL1 Battery Locomotive – A Piece of Hamburg’s History
[p]The AL1 battery locomotive has been a crucial helper in Hamburg’s subway network for many years. It is used wherever no power from the third rail is available – for example, during construction work. With its robust design, it has been a real workhorse and an indispensable part of daily operations.
[/p][p][/p]

The LB6 Wagon – The Perfect Companion
[p]Alongside the AL1, there is the LB6 wagon, used for transporting materials and tools. Together with the AL1, it forms the ideal duo for construction and maintenance tasks in the subway network.
[/p][p][/p]

A Highly Detailed Driver’s Cab
[p]In SubwaySim 2, the driver’s cab of the AL1 has been recreated with great attention to detail. Many controls are interactive, allowing you to operate the locomotive in a realistic way.
[/p][p][/p][p]One exciting feature: The AL1 comes with a fully functional battery that can be recharged via the third rail.
[/p][p][/p][p]This brings a major new feature: All trains in SubwaySim 2 will now have functional power collectors.[/p][p]This means that if your power collector is switched off and you’re not connected to the third rail, your train won’t be able to move.
[/p]

Construction Sites Feature
[p]What would a battery locomotive be without construction sites?[/p][p]In timetable and career mode, there will be construction sites to service with the AL1. More details will follow in one of the next DevLogs – but here’s a little sneak peek already!
[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p][/p]
About SubwaySim 2
[p][/p][p]SubwaySim 2 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. New Lighting & Route Overhaul in Berlin and Hamburg

[p]As announced in our new roadmap, this week we’re excited to share some major updates: improved lighting and route details in Berlin and Hamburg.
[/p][p]But let’s take it step by step..[/p]

Berlin: More Atmosphere Above and Below Ground
[p][/p][p]Image 1 – Wittenbergplatz:[/p][p]Our new dynamic lighting really shines here, bringing the station’s iconic steel beams to life with realistic illumination.[/p][p][/p][p]Image 2 – Tunnel section after Nollendorfplatz:[/p][p]Hamburg already had emergency exits – but in Berlin, they were missing until now. We’ve added them with authentic blue emergency exit lighting, adding both realism and depth to the tunnels.[/p][p][/p][p]Images 3 & 4 – Möckernbrücke and sunset:[/p][p]On the surface, a special highlight awaits: a beautiful sunset over Berlin as we head toward Möckernbrücke.[/p][p][/p][p]Daisy Displays:[/p][p]These have also been updated with improved fonts, a redesigned display model, and new features such as delay information for trains.[/p][p][/p]

Hamburg: Lighting Effects Between the Harbor and the City
[p][/p][p]Image 1 – Ramp to Rathaus:[/p][p]A DT5 train heads toward Wandsbek, with the Hamburg Michel in the background and a stunning sunset painting the sky – pure Hamburg vibes.[/p][p][/p][p]Image 2 – Rathaus Station:[/p][p]Here we see a DT5 ready for departure, with the new lighting adding depth and atmosphere to the station.[/p][p][/p][p]Image 3 – Landungsbrücken:[/p][p]Finally, a look at the Hamburg harbor: the new lighting creates a picturesque evening scene around the Landungsbrücken station.[/p][p][/p]

[p]With these improvements, we aim to make the routes in Berlin and Hamburg feel more alive, realistic, and atmospheric. 🌇🚇[/p][p]What do you think of the new lighting effects and the upgraded details?

Driving on Sight – Saarlandstraße Track Workshop

[p]With our new roadmap now live, we want to keep you regularly updated on the development process. Today, we’re kicking things off with our very first weekly update – and it’s all about the Saarlandstraße track workshop. The main focus: Driving on Sight.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
The rules are pretty straightforward and are signaled with just two signs:
[p]So1: Two black dots on a white background. From this point on, you’re entering a signaled area, so signals now apply to your journey.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]So2: The same two dots, but crossed out with a red line. This means you’re leaving the signaled area and can now move freely, driving on sight.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]And here’s the twist: in the entire workshop area, you’ll have to set the switches yourself! That means stopping in front of the switch, setting it, and then continuing your journey.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As a little treat, we’re also giving you a first look at the AL1 driver’s cab. In one of our next posts, we’ll dive deeper into this beautiful piece of 90s engineering and explain what makes it so special.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

About SubwaySim 2
[p][/p][p]SubwaySim 2 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. With it, we want to give you a clear insight into what we are working on and what you can expect in upcoming updates. The roadmap is divided into different sections – Main Game, DLCs, and Modding – so you can immediately see which new features are planned in which area.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p]
What does this mean for you?
[p][/p][p][/p][p]You can look forward to numerous new features that make the gameplay even more varied and realistic. The lighting system has been completely redeveloped and now creates a whole new atmosphere – thanks to the modern UE5/Lumen setup, the environment feels more alive than ever before. At the same time, we have been working intensively on stability and performance, ensuring a smooth gaming experience. For better accessibility, there are new options for players with visual impairments – including special settings for red-green color blindness.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Main Game
[p]From reworked station meshes to optimized signal and tool systems, all the way to completely redesigned traffic control in Berlin and Hamburg – the base game continues to grow and improve.[/p][p][/p]
Modding
[p]The modding community can also look forward to exciting news: The SDK will be updated regularly, interfaces will be expanded, and even experimental features for consoles are being prepared. In addition, we are expanding the SDK Wiki to make it easier for you to develop your own content.[/p][p][/p]
DLCs
[p]Of course, there will also be new vehicles, additional routes, and scenarios – including exciting expansions such as the AL1 battery locomotive or new maintenance wagon sets. This will allow you to design your timetables even more realistically and individually.[/p][p][/p]
In short:
[p]We’ve heard your feedback and are implementing step by step what you’ve been asking for. The roadmap is your outlook into the future – transparent, structured, and packed with exciting new content that continuously expands the game.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

About SubwaySim 2
[p][/p][p]SubwaySim 2 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
