Another Thursday means another quick devlog!

I’ve been hard at work adding some exciting updates and improvements to the game. Here’s what’s been keeping me busy:

There’s a brand-new level in the works! It’s shaping up to be a really eerie addition. It features a unique entity with its own look and mechanics, and introduces new item interaction mechanics, adding a layer of complexity to the gameplay. I can’t wait for you to explore it very soon!

On top of all that, I’ve been improving some of the core game elements. I’ve polished the lighting across all levels, making things look and feel even more atmospheric. Every level has also been optimized for smoother performance, so you can expect a more seamless experience overall.

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday break and that 2025 is off to an amazing start for you šŸŽ‰ It’s time for another devlog, and I’m really excited to share what I’ve been working on lately.

[h3]šŸ’” What am I working on this week?[/h3]
I've been focused on pushing forward some exciting new features and making progress on the new game mode. Here’s what’s new:

I’ve been implementing various types of traps in the game. They’re already functional, but the visuals aren’t quite there yet. Don’t worry, though - once the graphics are ready, they’re going to make exploring even more intense!

I've started working on defining the core objective of the upcoming game mode. I can’t share too much just yet, but it’s coming together really nicely, and I think it’s going to add a fresh layer of challenge and excitement!

I'm also designing a new level specifically for this game mode, and I’m thrilled with how it’s evolving. Expect eerie vibes and plenty of opportunities for strategic gameplay!

And, as always, I’ve been squashing bugs to make the experience smoother. It’s not the flashiest part of development, but it’s very satisfying to see the game running better with every update!

The hunted will turn into the hunter...

December Update is Out!

[h2]Hey everyone![/h2]

First off, thank you for your feedback and support as always. As promised, I have another update for you!

[h3]⭐ What’s New?[/h3]
This month, I focused on reworking the Parking Lot level, but that’s not all! Here’s what’s new:

ā˜¢ļø Parking Lot Revamp:
  1. New Models: I’ve added fresh environmental details and a brand-new card reader to help you find the exit door more easily
  2. New Layout: The Parking Lot level has been redesigned with new areas for you to explore
ā˜¢ļø Sound Enhancements:
  1. Flashlights now have sounds when toggled
  2. Player damage sounds have been updated
  3. The Smiler now comes with its own creepy sound
ā˜¢ļø Monster Speed Adjustments:
  1. Monsters on Level 0 have had their speed rebalanced—they’ll no longer charge at you with superspeed
ā˜¢ļø Bug Fixes:
  1. Various fixes to improve your gameplay experience
  2. Fixed a bug causing workshop levels to not appear


[h3]šŸŽ® About the New Game Mode[/h3]
In an earlier devlog, I mentioned that a new game mode was planned for this December. I’ve decided to postpone its release because it’s just not ready yet. I want to make sure it’s in a good state before sharing it with you all.

That said, I’m eager to gather your feedback on it! I’m planning to release the game mode on the experimental branch first, possibly in January, and may even organize broader playtests to see if it’s heading in the right direction. Keep an eye out for more news on this soon!

[h3]šŸŽ Holiday Break[/h3]
As the holiday season approaches, the weekly devlogs will pause for a short break and return in the second week of January. I’ll also be taking this time to rest and recharge.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and an amazing start to 2025. Thank you so much for your support throughout 2024, it meant the world to me. I’m super excited for what’s coming next, and I can’t wait to share more updates with you in the new year!

A Quick Devlog #6

It’s time for another devlog! I’m very excited to share the progress I've made.

[h3]šŸ’” What am I working on this week?[/h3]
This week has been all about refining gameplay mechanics and enhancing the player experience on the Parking Lot level. Here’s what I've been up to.

I’ve added a keycard reader to the exit door! Now, it’s much easier to figure out which door is the right one to escape through. No more wandering around aimlessly – but don’t let your guard down just yet!

I’ve changed the key that was hidden in the car to a keycard. This tweak better aligns with the new mechanics and gives the level a more cohesive feel.

I’ve wrapped up the layout and lighting on the Parking Lot level! The ambiance is now dialed in with a perfect mix of eerie shadows and subtle hints to guide your way. I can’t wait for you to see how it sets the mood!

I’ve also been hard at work on the new game mode I teased earlier. The framework is really starting to take shape, and I’m loving how it’s coming together. I’ll share more details as soon as possible, so stay tuned!

[h3]šŸ’” What am I working on this week?[/h3]
With the new update now out, I’ve shifted my focus to what’s coming next for December and beyond. Here’s a look at this week’s progress:

I’ve been working on usable items, which will open up new strategic possibilities during gameplay. The goal is to give you more dynamic interactions with the environment and fresh opportunities to plan and adapt!

I’m also focusing on trap placement, which will bring a whole new layer of tension and creativity to the new gamemode. Strategically setting traps will require careful thought and add an exciting risk-reward dynamic to each encounter.

On the Parking Lot level, I’ve been fixing bugs and working on new assets, including an updated access card and card reader for the exit doors. These changes aim to make the environment feel more immersive and functional, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together!

Things aren’t always what they seem in the new game mode...

As always, these changes are part of my ongoing effort to make the game more interactive, fun, and true to the Backrooms’ eerie vibe - hope you'll like them!
