Looking Through the Lens!

Our inhouse video editor, Joe, shares his insights into working on making content for The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest! Take a look!
So, here we are working on The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest! As a video editor, how does it feel to go from working on Prison City to TASQ?
Joe: It's a pretty smooth transition, as both games are in the same wheelhouse aesthetically, but I'm enjoying TASQ much more, since I can connect to the source material. It's based on one of my favorite game series of all time. I'm a huge horror and retro gaming fan, so working on a modern-retro game dealing with Dracula and other devious denizens of Wallachia is very on-brand for me and a blast to be a part of.
What do you think makes TASQ different and/or similar to Prison City?
Joe: Again, the aesthetics are the same wherein you could look at both as "lost" games of yesteryear, and have them fit amongst your catalog all snug and cozy. However, TASQ is a different flavor than Prison City, especially when it comes to gameplay, objective, and story. It's no secret it emulates and parodies Castlevania, but it's in the best way possible.
What do you think makes TASQ unique compared to similar titles you have seen or played?
Joe: TASQ is Castlevania 2 on crack--plain and simple. Imagine a complete revamp (very much pun intended) of controls, world map, features, inventory, and expanded gameplay all spun into a story that is as funny as it is compelling.

Looking Back at PAX East 2024!

With PAX East 2024 now in the rearview mirror, we wanted to share some of our photos and experiences at the event!

Here’s a photo of our booth setup showing all the games we featured!

We’re so grateful for all the interest and excitement we got from so many of you who visited our booth to play The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest! Lead developer Programancer was on the scene answering questions from players and conducting interviews on the game!

The TASQ demo featured 2 options for players to choose from: Adventure or Action. “Adventure” allowed players to explore the overworld of TASQ, while being able to speak with NPCs, and go on side quests. Selecting “Action” thrusts players straight into the Bram Mansion, showing off the combat mechanics, Subweapon usage, and a boss battle at the end!

We’d like to give a HUUUGE thanks to everyone who showed up to play at our booth, and we hope you enjoyed the demo version of TASQ!

Look forward to even more as we continue on with development!

Simon Quest Who?

Simon Quest is the protagonist of this adventure across Transylvania! But who exactly is he? Lead developer Programancer provides some insight into his character…

Programancer: Even though he's not given any dialogue in-game (as I prefer the player to insert their own thoughts into situations)- Simon is a bit of a lighthearted, albeit brash, and rebellious person. He raised himself from a young age as the result of a close call with Dracula, and he's hellbent on restoring his disgraced family's honor by fulfilling their legacy and duty as vampire hunters.

He's witty and clever- which helps him get out of most situations, and while people see him as a bumbling fool, he's more than capable of getting out of any situation he finds himself in. On the surface it may seem like he is simply resurrecting Dracula for selfish reasons, but maybe there's more to that than is immediately apparent- you'll just have to see!

In his creation, I've always thought of him as a bit of a Joseph Joestar- where you can't really take him seriously, but always manages to succeed much to his opponent's chagrin. The type of hero you think is a goofy, stupid moron, but ends up being extremely calculating and tactical. He's the type to throw insults and taunts at his opponents just to goad them into a reaction he can exploit.

Look forward to even more updates as TASQ continues on with development!

You SHALL NOT Pass!

Wielding a sword and shield, these fully armored knights are ready to defend the staircases of Bram Mansion!

Those daring enough to challenge these Stairmasters can try attacking them using their trusty whip, though you’ll have to line up Simon’s sprite to get them on the swing!

Another way to deal with these dark knights is to keep your distance and use throwable subweapons! Stairmasters can move up or down stairs, so be sure to aim well to take down these enemies!
