Starground Alpha v6.4.0 Released

Starground v6.4.0 is now out! This update includes a variety of additions, like consumable items (the bomb, cheese, and apples), tons of new animations for the starlauncher and player, improvements to the overworld, new weapons, and general improvements and quality of life.

All of these new changes should work with multiplayer, but as with any new additions, let me know if issues arise!

  • Added craftable bombs

  • Changed the UI to better portray the health bar and day counter
  • Improved the tool bench UI
  • Improved transparency on various UI elements
  • Changed the tileset to add more flowers, add water decorations, and animate the water
  • Made it so the mining laser fades in and out
  • Made adjustments to the mining laser position
  • Made it so the starting time of a new world is during the day
  • Made it so you now randomly lose items when you die
  • Made it so the currently selected hotbar slot is highlighted
  • Made it so the mining laser and weapon hotbar sprites are now inset
  • Made it so decorations have a chance to drop cheese
  • Made it so items now drop out of the player's position instead of the mouse position
  • Made it so dropping an item plays a sound
  • Made it so buildings with areas are now all displayed when that building is being built


[h2]Fixes and Optimizations[/h2]
  • Significantly improved the performance of walls
  • Fixed an issue where you couldn't swap stacks inside of the tool bench
  • Fixed an issue where conveyor belts were depth sorted improperly
  • Fixed a depth sorting issue with the mining laser beam
  • Fixed an issue where the mining laser target sprite got darkened by night time
  • Fixed a rare client disconnect crash involving player references
  • Fixed an issue where weapons were not synced when a player joins a pre-existing game
  • Fixed an issue where weapon previews on clients were updating improperly
  • Fixed an issue where the mining laser would not be displayed on other players when joining a server for the first time
  • Fixed an issue where any toolbench placed after the first wouldn't update its UI when opened
  • Fixed an issue where the first room in a dungeon would not generate decorations

Starground Alpha v6.3.1 Hotfix

This is a small patch to address some issues caused by v6.3.0.

  • Fixed an issue where chests, big chests, and vaults were invisible
  • Fixed an issue where chat permanently dissapears after opening the pause menu
  • Fixed an issue where corpses were not deleted on clients

Starground Alpha v6.3.0 Released

v6.3.0 of Starground is now up! This version includes a multitude of QOL and UI improvements, alongside full support for Steam multiplayer. A new building called the Vault also makes its entrance, which can hold up to 10,000 items!

As with any new introduction like this, issues are likely to arise, so let me know if issues happen with Steam!

  • Added Steam multiplayer, allowing friends to connect through Steam
  • Added french to the languages menu (big thanks to Xerinos!)

  • Changed the multiplayer menu to so you can choose between Steam and manual connecting and hosting
  • Changed the appearance of the poison cloud shot by Dreadcap
  • Removed UPNP (it was stupid and also caused long load times)
  • Increased the maximum length for usernames to 100 characters
  • Made it so category buttons (like those in crafters and the building menu) now become highlighted when they are active
  • Improved the visuals of the multiplayer disconnect popup
  • Made it so loading a save during a multiplayer game is no longer allowed (caused too many issues)
  • Changed the style of tab containers to be inline with the other UI elements

  • Actually fixed an issue with the treadmill not appearing for clients
  • Fixed an issue were BBCode tags in chat would affect other messages
  • Potentially fixed an issue where chat messages would sometimes not send
  • Fixed an issue where player nametags would be drawn below objects
  • Fixed yóchic's name in the credits (sorry bro)
  • Fixed an issue where dropped items that were saved before exiting a dungeon would show up when you re-entered
  • Fixed the horizontal line in the options menu so it touches the tabs
  • Fixed a visual issue where items moving down on a conveyor would be underneath movers
  • Fixed an issue where ancient automaton particles were no longer gears
  • Fixed an issue where players in multiplayer could not enter through the boss door

Starground Alpha v6.2.0 Released

v6.2.0 of Starground is now out! This update addresses some early-game balancing issues with both power and dungeoning. Batteries have been introduced to handle unreliable early-game power. Buildings now also don't require full power, and their speed will scale with consumption.

  • Decreased the collector power consumption to 5 SE
  • Increased the length of the daycycle from 300 seconds to 600 (5 minutes to 10)
  • Made it so machines will now slow down when power is low instead of stopping
  • Made it so you can walk on solar panels
  • Made it so fists now have much longer range
  • Lowered moonshroom health from 8 to 6
  • Doubled the damage fists do
  • Made it so damage no longer stacks ontop of the base damage (so if you have a sword with 4 damage, you do 4 damage instead of 4.25)
  • Balanced weapon components
    • Fungdle cooldown 0.4 -> 0.1
    • Primitive Handle cooldown 0.5 -> 0.3
    • Long Handle cooldown 0.4 -> 0.2
    • Primitive Hammer damage 1 -> 2

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed an issue where treadmills were not created in multiplayer
  • Potentially fixed an issue related to a tesla coil having a null network
  • Fixed an issue where the power generation and consumption values were incorrectly calculated when adding a tesla coil to a pre-existing network
  • Fixed an issue where blacklist filters on movers didn't work
  • Fixed an issue where treadmills blocked other buildings
  • Fixed an issue where the player was incorrectly layered with the treadmill

Starground Alpha v6.1.0 Released

The second version of v6 is out! This includes a few new bits of content, and of course the usual quality of life and fixes. I've also added coins to the dungeons. While these don't do anything yet, they will be used for future trading with NPCs to buy weapon components and upgrades.

  • Replaced the wind sway shader to fix an issue where the sway was too extreme on some computers (big thanks to mbg!).
  • Made it so the output slot of crafters display the item it is about to craft.
  • Made it so machines that require multiple inputs or produce multiple outputs display how much in the inventory.
  • Made it so that when an item is only a stack of 1, the number dissapears.
  • Made it so that items cannot be placed ontop of a collision box.
  • Made it so the player no longer follows the mouse when it's outside of the game window.
  • Made it so movers can grab items from other movers only when facing the same direction.
  • Made it so decorations and enemies now have a chance to drop coins.

  • Fixed an issue where Brazilian Portuguese was being translated to European Portugese.
  • Fixed an issue where dungeons only spawned 3 regular rooms (now set to 15).
  • Fixed multiple issues related to the treadmill, including depth sorting and not being able to place items underneath it.
  • Fixed an issue where larger buildings would not get included in tesla coil ranges.
  • Fixed a visual decal overlap in the boss room.
  • Fixed an issue where the player could get out of range of Dreadcap in the boss room.
  • Fixed an issue where starting a new research would cancel the old one first instead of instantly starting the next one.
