DevLog #28 | New Weapons & Duo Mode Test
[p]Hello, Survivors![/p][p]We’re back with a new Dev Log.[/p][p]In this Dev Log, we’re excited to introduce two new weapons that will expand your combat options, along with news about the trial introduction of Duo Mode—something many of you have been waiting for![/p][p][/p]
On Weapon Diversity
[p]Since The Midnight Walkers is built around close-quarters combat, [/p][p]We determined that it was necessary to more clearly define the distinct combat roles of each weapon type within that structure.[/p][p]We have consistently received feedback regarding weapon diversity, [/p][p]particularly about the limited weapon choices suitable for narrow environments and the lack of impactful, heavy hit feedback in the one-handed weapon category.[/p][p]By introducing weapons that help bridge this gap, we aim to broaden player choices based on combat tempo and engagement style.[/p][p][/p]
New Weapon 1: Morning Star
[p]The Morning Star is a weapon available to the Brick and Bartender classes, a heavy and intimidating one-handed blunt weapon.[/p][p]It features a rugged appearance, as if hastily modified using tools, with bolts embedded into an iron pipe. Though it may look crude at first glance, its destructive power leaves a strong impression with every strike.[/p][p]Designed around vertical attack motions, the Morning Star can be effectively used even in alleys or confined spaces. Its attack style—raising the weapon high and smashing it down—may be slow, but it delivers a powerful and satisfying blow.[/p][p]It also supports charged attacks, allowing players to unleash a decisive strike that can turn the tide of battle. Compared to other one-handed weapons, it has relatively longer reach, and its strong stagger effect, characteristic of blunt weapons, helps subdue zombies more reliably.[/p][p]The Morning Star will suit Survivors who prefer the weight of impact over speed.[/p][p]
[/p]
New Weapon 2: Machete
[p]The Machete is available to the Lockdown, Crow, and Bartender classes, and is designed to offer a different combat feel from existing one-handed swords.[/p][p]Unlike the Kukri, which focuses on rapid consecutive attacks, the Machete is a slower one-handed sword that delivers more deliberate and impactful strikes. All attacks can be charged, encouraging a combat style that emphasizes timing rather than frantic slashing.[/p][p]Its reach is set at a level similar to the hand axe, ensuring stable engagement distance. While the attack tempo is slightly reduced, the attack range has been widened to improve hit reliability and ease of use.[/p][p]Mobility remains comparable to other one-handed weapons, allowing players to maintain a familiar feel while introducing a distinct combat style.[/p][p]
[/p]
Trial Introduction of Duo Mode
[p]Following the regular maintenance patch on February 26, we plan to run Duo Mode as a limited-time trial for two weeks. During the trial, Duo Mode will replace Squad Mode in Rookie Mode only.[/p][p](We’ll consider expanding into a Survival mode, taking both player preferences and the overall situation.)[/p][p]While we previously mentioned running this test in Survival Mode, we’ve adjusted the scope to Rookie Mode to ensure more stable operation and to collect reliable data.[/p][p]We’re also continuing development so we can test Duo Mode while keeping Squad (Trio) Mode available. We know many of you want Duo Mode as soon as possible, but it impacts matchmaking structure, session composition, and overall game stability. For that reason, we’ll verify each step thoroughly and apply changes gradually once stability is confirmed.[/p][p]Additionally, since the current combat structure is designed around Solo and Squad modes, certain balance adjustments may be necessary in a Duo environment. This trial period will help us gather relevant data and refine the mode to better suit Duo gameplay. As this has been one of the most consistently requested features from our Survivors, we’ll review the results carefully to ensure it lands in a stable and polished state.[/p][p]
[/p]
In Closing
[p]What did you think of this Dev Log? [/p][p]We’d love to hear your thoughts on our official Discord.[/p][p]We are continuing development based on the roadmap we’ve shared. [/p][p]Moving forward, we will keep refining the gameplay experience based on your valuable feedback.[/p][p][/p][p]That’s all for today’s Dev Log. [/p][p]Until our next update, stay alive.[/p]
