Steam Next Fest Recap & Full Release Outlook

Greetings, fellow detectives!

We’ve been busy preparing for October’s Steam Next Fest, and now that the event has wrapped up, we finally have time to share some updates and our plans moving forward.
A Thrilling Steam Next Fest
We spent months getting ready for this event — refreshing the game’s key art, updating the UI, and adding multiple language localizations. All that “heavy lifting” paid off! During the event, we gained nearly 17,000 new wishlists. A huge thank you to everyone who loves our game!

Many new players tried our demo during the festival, and we received tons of valuable feedback and suggestions. We’ve carefully collected all of it and are already working to improve those areas for the full release.
The Localization Challenge
Localization turned out to be even more complex than we imagined. Each language has its own word order, name conventions, usage contexts, and idiomatic expressions. Some clever wordplays in one language can be completely confusing in another — a real challenge for a text-driven detective game like ours!

We get it—the demo’s localization still isn’t perfect right now. But, this event has been an important learning experience, and we’re confident that the full version will deliver a much more immersive detective experience.

We’d love to support as many languages as possible so everyone can enjoy the game in their native tongue. However, given our current capacity, we can only include a few for now. We’ll continue to monitor wishlist growth by region to better understand where the demand is — so if you like our game, please add it to your wishlist! It really helps us plan future language support.
What’s Up With the Full Game?
Inspired by the overwhelmingly positive response to Next Fest, we’re now fully focused on developing the full release of the game, and progress is going well. We will announce the release date when the time is right.

Compared to the demo, the full game will feature more challenging puzzles, faster-paced storytelling, and a deeper dive into the main cases. We’re polishing every detail to ensure you’ll feel the thrill of piecing together clues and uncovering how multiple intertwined mysteries connect.

We’re polishing every detail of the game, hoping you’ll enjoy the thrill of connecting clues and solving interrelated cases together. See you next time, detectives!

Oh, and one last thing — please add the game to your wishlist, and your support means a lot to us!

What is Confidential Killings?

We’ve received some questions about our upcoming detective game, so here’s a post to answer them and share more about its inspirations and creators!

What’s the game about?

Late 1970s: a series of unrelated murders shakes the glamorous world of the stars. Actors, producers, and writers are killed one after another. You take on the role of a detective, investigating these crimes to uncover the hidden secrets behind them. Who is pulling the strings? What lies behind the façade?
Are the cases connected?
[p]Yes! All the murders are part of a larger mystery. We can’t reveal too much (no spoilers!), but each case is a piece of a bigger story. By using your detective skills, you’ll connect the hidden links between people, events, and secrets.

How do you play?
The game is structured around several cases, each centered on one or more murders. You will:
• Explore crime scenes and search for clues
• Talk to suspects and witnesses
• Discover and analyze documents
• Fill your detective notebook, reconstructing what happened and who the suspects are
As you progress, later cases will introduce special puzzles and more complex investigations.

Our Inspirations
Story
We’re long-time fans of detective fiction. From the hardboiled classics of Hammett and Chandler to the police procedurals of Ed McBain, those books inspired the tone and narrative of Confidential Killings. You’ll also find echoes of real events from the late ‘70s, woven into the cases you’ll investigate.

Graphics
Visually, the game draws from noir cinema—its sharp contrasts of light and shadow, its depictions of glamour mixed with corruption, and its dark atmosphere. We wanted that noir feel, but transported into the late ‘70s setting.

Gameplay
Gameplay inspirations include Spycraft, Return of the Obra Dinn, and The Case of the Golden Idol. Each of these games pushed the detective genre forward, and we aim to do the same—making players truly feel like detectives, piecing together clues with their own reasoning.

The Creators
BRANE: A veteran developer with years of experience using the Godot Engine. His projects range from narrative experiments to simulations, including the innovative Master of Chess, which has a Very Positive rating on Steam.

Lorenzo: A long-time creator of adventure games, providing the visual style of Confidential Killings. Together, they have explored the detective genre in the past, with their collaboration on We Suspect Foul Play and Lorenzo’s solo game Stranger in Utopia.

When will it release?
We’re aiming for release by the end of this year. However, we’ll take the time we need to deliver a game we’re proud of—even if it means delaying.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work to make Confidential Killings the best detective experience possible!
