EA1.2.40 The wordless tutorials now explain game mechanics

Realizing from several reviews that players get frustrated if they don't get explanations right from the start, I added deeper, beginner-friendly tutorials around the first node.

Mechanics of the Fracture I & II now explain the game mechanics without using any quantum theory.

Designing a good learning curve is extremely hard, especially when players come in with wildly different backgrounds. Some arrive with no math skills at all but hope to learn quantum computing -> these new tutorials are meant to help them progress much faster. Others complain that the early puzzles don’t teach quantum theory and assume the whole game will stay as easy as the first hour.

My hope is that the new texts support both groups: beginners who need a gentle start, and advanced players who need to know what they are getting into and where to find a quicker path into the deeper, more demanding content.

You no longer need to click <> buttons to advance texts, simply press the R key!
Improved the narrated module, eliminated typos
Every time you entered a new module it used to say "Learn to Fly", now the name of the puzzle is displayed instead.
In the map the new hold right click to pan option is shown

EA1.2.38 Narrated Module on History of Computation, righclick pan camera

[p]Dear Seekers,[/p][p]Paula Marie has returned through a time capsule to be opened for those seeking a casual, relaxed and narrated history lesson into how humanity started with processing information. You'll learn about bits, bitstrings and how to build simple circuits, simply sit back and relax and let Paula cover everything for you. This should really open the game up for those absolute beginners (who haven't seen a 01 before).[/p][p][/p][p]We also introduced holding right click to pan camera around, it should feel similar to any editing software you might use in the past. WASD is still there, but given some people are left handed this should really improve on their experience. Thanks everyone for testing this behavior on the steam deck.[/p][p][/p][p]This month hopefully (finally) game will also be playable offline. [/p][p]As always, looking forward to hear your feedback and let's make QO immortal together.[/p]

EA.1.2.35 Content update - new challenges

[p]I’ve seen far too many Seekers get stuck at the tutorial. I believe it's my fault and I am finding ways to improve on this. It's fascinating to see that most people who put over two hours in, end up going 20h+, hence my goal is simple: to make the first 30 minutes feel like a casual, approachable experience, definitely not the "hardest puzzle game ever made", as some may have pointed out many patches ago.[/p][p]Two new wordless challenges have been added to create a more fluid on-boarding experience. These focus purely on what the gates do. Only in part three of the series will you explore why they do what they do.[/p][p][/p][p]Beyond that, you’ll also find improvements to dialogue and several updated encyclopedia entries.[/p][p]Oh, and one more change: Paula Marie has taken a leave, entrusting her tutorial duties to the Sage of Axioms. Hopefully later this week we'll be adding a bunch more features requested by our community on Discord. [/p][p][/p][p]Do also take a minute to review this project on Steam, this really helps communicate what the game does, perhaps even better than the current trailer and long descriptions (I hope soon I'll get the space to work on these too).[/p][p][/p][p]See you in the quantum realm! Hopefully from next year we can kick off our first competitions![/p][p][/p]

EA.1.2.34 New Content!

[p]Seeker, it is time to test your command over invisible threads of logic.[/p][p]Have you ever longed to whisper a possibility into one qubit… only to watch it collapse into certainty on another? Now you will practice the true art of teleporting information, where superposition becomes a message, and entanglement becomes your path.[/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Added a new challenge path for SWAP. Let's see Prove you can master swapping quantum information![/p]
  • [p]Small changes to dialogues and encyclopedia as usual.[/p]
  • [p]Offline mode wip.[/p]
  • [p]Next week we'll improve input controls which hopefully will solve the NE panning problem some experience using controllers.[/p]
  • [p]Custom gate behavior improvements, now you know what they do when used in circuits.[/p]
