Hellish roguelike RPG Jötunnslayer gets a free Steam demo

A couple of months back, Diablo 4 was blessed with a new roguelike horde mode, and it's amazing. If you've been loving Infernal Hordes, or you're looking from the outside in wanting a similar experience outside of Diablo, we've got good news for you. Jötunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is an upcoming horde survival roguelike with all the hellish goodness of Blizzard's series, and you can now try it for free thanks to its new Steam demo.

Demo Patch Notes for 08/27/24

Hey Survivors!

Today, we're bringing a small Demo update containing following fixes:

Fixed bugs
  • Players dying during boss summon cutscene
  • Players taking damage out of nowhere
  • Incorrect mouse controls in the Virtue screen

Hey Jotunnslayers!

Welcome to episode #7 of Jotunnslayer Dev Blog: What’s New in the Latest Public Demo? This update focuses on all the content and improvements made in the latest Jotunnslayer build, now available as a public demo!

We’ve wrapped up a critical phase in the development of Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel—the playtest is now behind us. This demo is the result of all the feedback, suggestions, and ideas we’ve collected from you.

So, HOW DOES JOTUNNSLAYER LOOK TODAY?

Based on your feedback, we’ve made several important improvements:

1. UX/UI Changes: We’ve updated UI elements for better text readability, new icons, and a complete GUI overhaul for Character, Gear, and Map selections, as well as improved new HUD. On the UX side, screen shake is now optional and can be adjusted in the Options menu from 0% to 200%! Additionally, the Temple has been torn down, with your personal improvements now accessible in the new Virtues menu.

2. New Icons and Updated Visuals: We’ve introduced new icons for all skills, sub-classes, and passives, both in-game and in the Virtues menu. Some ability visuals have been optimized, and the portraits for Berserker, Thor, and Freya have received a makeover.

3. Skill Evolves: Active skills have been upgraded with Rank 4 evolutions, enhancing gameplay in significant ways.

4. Tons of Optimization and Bug Fixes: We’ve resolved numerous issues to ensure smoother gameplay.

5. THE DARK SEERESS!: The long-awaited caster character is finally here! The Dark Seeress is decked out and ready to join the fight with wide variety of skills:

Jotunnslayer Dev Blog #6 - What's different after the playtest?

Hey Jotunnslayers!

It's been a while since our last dev blog, and that's because we've been busy fixing, rethinking, designing, redesigning and improving Jotunnslayer based on your incessant waves of invaluable playtest feedback—thank you so much for that once again!

Today, we want to update you on the progress we've made in response to some of the topics you've frequently mentioned, as well as the current status of the build. So, in this episode of the Jotunnslayer Dev Blog #6, let's scratch the surface of the following:


Screen Shake - It's worth mentioning again that the screen shake issue has been addressed and the option to turn it off or reduce its visibility in the game will be available in the demo version. We've implemented a screen shake intensity slider, allowing you to adjust it from 0% to 200%.

Gameplay Mechanics - Based on your feedback, skill evolves have been added to the game. That being said, every skill now has its ultimate level. Since we are currently focused on refining the system architecture, some additional skills and items are on hold for now. We completely understand how eager you all are for new builds and content, and we promise that we are committed to delivering them over time. Rest assured, we have big plans for this game!

New Class Releases - We’re hard at work on the public demo, which will introduce a new character, the Seeress. Following that, two additional classes will be available in Early Access, with more classes to be added in future updates.

New God Releases - New gods are definitely in our plans. While they won’t be implemented in the upcoming demo due to our current workload, they will be available in later versions and updates.

Quest Diversity - Even though other priorities have taken precedence for now and our team has been producing new content at a certain pace, we’ll definitely make quests more diverse in the Early Access version.

How about the UI/UX? Has it undergone any changes?

The GUI has been completely reworked, and the new version will be featured in the public demo. It’s sleeker and designed to allow for seamless addition of new content in the future. We’re eager to hear what you think of it!
