Achilles: Survivor (PC) Review

Achilles: Survivor is an action roguelike, bullet hell game from developer Dark Point Games. Set in mythological Ancient Greece, the game aims to provide a unique take on the frantic, fast-paced genre. Inspired by other modern titles in the genre, such as Vampire Survivors and the excellent Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, Achilles: Survivor offers some unique mechanics and progression systems that aim to help it stand out from these other titles.

Leveraging the robust mythos provided by its setting and theme, Achilles: Survivor invites players to explore four settings, each providing more powerful enemies to destroy, or die trying. As with many titles in the genre, Achilles: Survivor doesn’t spend much time unpacking a deep, story-rich motivation for the actions of the player, instead relying on the setting and theme as a backdrop for the slaughtering of endless streams of unique and challenging enemies.

This plays to Achilles: Survivors’ advantage and is a smart move... Read more

🛠️ Hotfix 1.0.1 is Live!

[p]Hi, Survivors!
A bit of good news today - we’ve just released Hotfix 1.0.1 to tackle some of the biggest issues reported after launch. [/p][p][/p][p]Here's what it addresses:[/p][p]✅ Save loss issue is (hopefully) fixed
With this update, your saves should now safely sync with Steam Cloud, even if the game closes unexpectedly.[/p][p]And remember - if this has happened to you, we are here for you! Come by our Discord and we’ll recover your save: Steam Community .[/p][p]✅ No more getting stuck in buildings[/p][p]You can no longer get trapped inside a structure if you're standing in its preview (ghost) form while it's being built.[/p][p]✅ Determination VIII & IX achievements
These should now track progress correctly for everyone.[/p][p]✅ Anti-aliasing option now works
Disabling anti-aliasing in the settings now correctly takes effect.[/p][p]✅ Manual Aim label removed
We’ve removed the “not recommended” tag next to the Manual Aim setting - it’s working well enough now that we’re confident in letting you decide for yourself. (It’s cosmetic only, nothing about the system changed.)[/p][p] Credits added
We’ve updated the in-game credits and want to sincerely apologize to our team members whose names were missing before 😅 Thank you for your work - and your patience.[/p][p] [/p][p] [/p]
What’s next?
• [p]We’re actively working on a fix for the crash issues caused by the latest NVIDIA driver update. Thank you for your patience - we know how frustrating this is. In the meantime, you can find a temporary workaround here:
Steam Thread: Fatal Error after updating drivers[/p]
  • [p]We’re also gathering feedback on what you’d like us to focus on next. Balance changes? New content? More QoL improvements? We want to hear what’s important to you![/p]
[p] [/p][p]We hope this hotfix makes your experience smoother 😊 Let us know if the game works better for you now![/p][p]~Dark Point Games Team[/p]

On the Topic of Bugs & BIG THANKS

[p]Hi Survivors,[/p][p]Wow, what a week it’s been.[/p][p]We’re aware of the issues you’ve been reporting - and we wanted to give you a little update on what we’re doing about them, and assure you that a fix is coming soon...[/p][p]But before that, there’s something else we need to say:[/p]
THANK YOU
[p]We honestly have no words for the sheer amount of support, feedback, and love we’ve received over the past few days. We’re just a small indie team from Toruń, (Poland), and while it might sound cheesy, we genuinely didn’t expect this kind of response.[/p][p]Let’s start with a few highlights:[/p][p]Our all-time concurrent player peak jumped from 341 (during Early Access launch) to 1357. That’s a 300%+ increase![/p][p]For comparison, our previous game, Achilles: Legends Untold, had a peak of 470. We’re not saying we could storm Troy together now… but we might have the numbers.[/p][p][/p][p]We’ve also received a lot of love from streamers - just look at the difference compared to our previous updates![/p][p][/p][p]And our reviews? Absolutely lovely:[/p][p]Even Steam reviews stayed very positive until dipping slightly over the weekend. (We absolutely understand why - more on that below.)[/p][p] [/p][p]Last but not least: we showed the game at ChinaJoy! Yes, we brought Achilles to Shanghai. That’s... quite far from Poland.[/p][carousel][/carousel][p]That’s not to mention all the social media comments, Steam discussions, Discord messages, and reviews all over the internet ❤️[/p][p]Here’s a real-time photo of our team processing everything:[/p][p][/p][p]Compared to other games, it might seem small - but to us, every record we break means the world. We believe in getting better with each day (and each update).[/p][p] [/p][p]At the same time, we want to assure you: we’re listening, and we’re working on the hotfix. Every issue you report is looked into, and we’re doing our best to fix them all as soon as possible.[/p][p]We’re a small team, so some things take a little longer - but we’re on it.[/p][p] [/p]
🐛 Known Issues & What We're Doing
[p]Here’s a quick rundown of the bugs you’ve reported and what we’re doing to fix them:[/p][p]⚙️ Lost progression (Steam Cloud conflict)[/p]
  • [p]This is our top priority. The issue seems to happen when Steam Cloud syncs incorrectly after a crash or forced shutdown.[/p]
[p]If this happened to you, please join our Discord and ping Remek (Remigiusz Starzak) - he will help you retrieve your progress ASAP! [/p][p]We’ll help every single person who reports lost progress. The fastest way to do so is to share your achievements with us.[/p][p][/p][p]⚙️ Achievements Determination VIII and IX not unlocking[/p][p]These may not register progress made before version 1.0. They will be addressed in the next hotfix.[/p][p][/p][p]⚙️ Nvidia driver 580.88 crashes
Some players reported crashes after updating their drivers to version 580.88. This is affecting multiple games, not just Achilles.[/p][p]If you haven’t updated yet, hold off a bit. If you already did - you can find a workaround in this thread: Fatal Error message after updating graphics drivers :: Achilles: Survivor General Discussions[/p][p][/p][p]⚙️ Getting stuck in structure preview[/p][p]If you’re standing in the ghost (preview) version of a structure while it’s being built, you may get stuck. For now, avoid standing in the blueprint zone while confirming construction.[/p][p] [/p][p]Other:[/p]
  • [p]Myrmidons have gone rogue. They may attack random buildings instead of enemies.[/p]
  • [p]We are aware that the anti-aliasing option cannot be disabled in the options. [/p]
  • [p]There is a small chance that the game may become unresponsive on the improvement/transformation/pause menu selection screen.[/p]
[p]We sincerely apologize for these issues. Our team is investigating each one and doing our best to fix them as quickly as possible - most of them are already confirmed to be in the upcoming hotfix. If you find more, please visit this thread and let us know:[/p][p]\[1.0] Official bug thread | KNOWN ISSUES :: Achilles: Survivor General Discussions[/p][p] [/p]
🔧 What’s next?
[p]We’re working on a hotfix to address the most urgent bugs, including lost saves, progression issues, and Nvidia crashes. [/p]
If all goes well, it will go live tomorrow or Wednesday, depending on test results.
[p] [/p][p]We're also working on balance changes, especially to the endless mode - they will be coming after our Discord competition ends (next week) to make it fair to all participants.[/p][p]Stay tuned for any future announcements![/p][p]~Dark Point Games team[/p][p] [/p]

The Final Battle Begins - Full Release Update Is Here

[p]Survivors![/p][p]You thought you could escape my wrath. [/p][p]You fought your way through scorched coastlines, blood-soaked battlefields, and cursed fortresses - each run a desperate step toward freedom. But every path, every escape, always led you back to where it all began -[/p][p]- to me.[/p][p]And now, there’s nowhere left to run.[/p][p][/p][p]Descend into the Depths of Tartarus and face your greatest challenge yet. [/p][p]No more second chances. [/p][p]Will you let the gods define your fate… or make a last stand against the one who started it all?[/p][p]We're in the Endgame now.[/p]
🎉 Achilles: Survivor leaves Early Access today.
[p]Version 1.0 brings more changes than all previous updates combined: you’ll face new horrors in a twisted realm, test your strength in Endless Mode, gain new powers, and unlock four powerful new Survivors - each with their own unique playstyle.[/p][p]Read on to discover what’s waiting for you in version 1.0.
And maybe grab a jug of tea - or ambrosia - because it’s a lot.[/p][p][/p]
🌍 New Realm: Dungeons. Explore the Depths of Tartarus.
[p]Venture into the darkest corners of the underworld in our brand-new fourth realm. [/p][p]Dungeons are no ordinary prison - the souls of condemned bandits and terrifying creatures roam among the ruined structures, allowing no Survivor to escape without a fight.[/p][p]You’ll face new, terrifying enemies, deadly midbosses, and powerful Overlords in six narrow, labyrinthine locations that leave little room to run… and nowhere to hide.[/p][p]What lies in wait within the Depths of Tartarus?[/p][p][/p]
🛠️ New Feature: Endless Mode. Prepare for Endless Pain
[p]Your adventure with Achilles can now last forever… Or at least as long as your skills allow. [/p][p]Every realm now has its own Endless variant, perfect for pushing your build to its limits. Survive as long as you can (and let us know your best time 💙)[/p][p][/p]
🛠️ New Feature: Talents. Unlock a unique ability for each Survivor
[p]Each Survivor has gained a unique Talent - a passive ability that differentiates them from other characters. [/p][p]It’s one of the biggest changes in 1.0, designed to make each run feel more distinct, and each Survivor more… themselves. For example, Diomedes - king of Argos, said to have founded ten cities before he died - gains bonus building speed with each completed structure and recovers some missing health.[/p][p][/p]
🛠️ New Feature: Favors rework.
[p]The Favour system has been overhauled!
You’ll now experience more meaningful build variety as each class feels more distinct - with new specialization paths and modifiers. [/p][p][/p]
🛡️ New Characters:

Achilles - the Kingslayer
[p]→ Fast striking speed, high mobility and dodge chance. An assassin who strikes from the shadows.[/p][p]A silent killer forged in the fires of war.[/p][p]Achilles was once the shining hero of Greece - commander of the Myrmidons, unstoppable on the battlefield, and a demigod whose name echoed across the Aegean. But that man died in Troy. What returned from the underworld is something else entirely.[/p][p][/p][p]Now wearing the very armor in which he slew Agamemnon, Achilles no longer leads legions. He moves alone - fast, deadly, and unseen until it’s far too late.[/p][p]They call him… the Kingslayer.[/p][p][/p]
Agamemnon - The Conqueror of Troy
[p]-> High armor, heavy damage, low mobility. Commands the battlefield through brute force.[/p][p]A heavy-armored warlord delivering devastating melee strikes.[/p][p]Agamemnon was never just a king - he was the king. Ruler of Mycenae, supreme commander of the Greek forces during the Trojan War, and the man whose word brought fire and ruin to the walls of Troy. His brother Menelaus may have had the grudge, but it was Agamemnon who turned it into war.[/p][p][/p][p]Don’t expect elegance - his movement is slow, and his strategy relies on overwhelming force.[/p][p]Feared by his allies, hated by his enemies, and too proud for the gods themselves, Agamemnon led through dominance and blood. Now, ripped from the underworld and clad in iron heavier than his conscience, he returns as a force of pure aggression. [/p][p]His thirst for power has only grown.[/p][p][/p]
Steropes, the Mighty Smasher
[p]→ Slow movement, high power, high armor. A walking tank who turns the battlefield into a demolition site.[/p][p]A living relic of the old gods.[/p][p]Steropes is one of the Elder Cyclopes - the children of Gaia and Uranus, ancient blacksmiths who once forged the thunderbolts of Zeus. In the depths of Hephaestus’ forge, he shaped weapons that would shatter mountains. Now, he brings that same force to the battlefield.[/p][p]He doesn’t move fast. He doesn’t need to.[/p][p]As a tank, he trades speed for overwhelming strength and heavy armor. Every strike lands like a forge hammer - slow to wind up, but absolutely crushing.[/p][p]He has one eye. Two fists. And zero patience.[/p][p][/p]
Nezha - The Third Lotus Prince
[p]→ High mobility, high crit chance, lower shooting damage. A fast, unpredictable fighter who blends martial skill with magical trickery.[/p][p]He’s not part of this pantheon - but he wasn’t going to let that stop him.[/p][p]Nezha is a legendary hero from Chinese mythology - a rebellious celestial warrior born of a lotus flower, known for defying divine orders and rewriting his own fate. Armed with enchanted relics and impossible speed, he’s outpaced demons, dragons, and now even death itself.[/p][p][/p][p]On the battlefield, Nezha is a blur. He strikes with a fire-tipped spear, controls crowds with his Heavenly Sash, and moves like a storm on his signature Wind Fire Wheels. He may lack long-range firepower, but when it comes to close-quarters combat, few can match his precision and flair.[/p][p]Most heroes try to escape Tartarus.
Nezha ran straight in - not to join the fight, but to stir it up.[/p][p][/p]
🌀 New Power: Poseidon’s Fury
[p]Call upon the Lord of the Sea to unleash a mighty wave. [/p][p]Poseidon sends a powerful surge forward, knocking back enemies in front of the Survivor. Great for creating breathing room - or wiping the battlefield clean.[/p]
🏛️ New Structures

Spin Blades
[p]This structure lashes out at nearby enemies with two rotating axes that extend and spin at regular intervals. Deals damage and applies light knockback - perfect for crowd control.[/p]
Statue of Medusa
[p]One glance and your foes freeze. You get paid.
Enemies that die to this cursed statue have a chance to turn to stone - and be converted directly into bonus Stone for your run. Build it smart, and let the Gorgon's gaze fund your construction empire.[/p]
⚔️ New enemies and adjustments
[p]Prepare for very different nightmares, as new Overlords \[Hades, Chimera], Midbosses \[Satyr, Centaur] and normal enemies join the battlefield. [/p][p]What’s more, cyclops and spider Midbosses gained some special attacks - now all the Midbosses in the game have them.[/p]
🏆 50 New Achievements Added
[p]Plenty of new challenges to chase down.[/p][p]To make your life easier, we also introduced achievement filtering in this update.[/p]
⚔️ Balance changes
• [p]Lowered building and mining times in Short Mode to improve pacing and lower frustration.[/p]
  • [p]3 new improvements and tags were added: related to distance, melee, magic.[/p]
  • [p]Bosses in Hard Mode now deal less damage, making it more probable to survive… But never certain.[/p]
  • [p]Critical Hit Chance improvements were nerfed, as they were too powerful. The Trojan Horse structure received a minor nerf (now it grants 3% crit chance). Monument of Thunder was adjusted too.[/p]
  • [p]Several characters were rebalanced and received changes to their passives. [/p]
  • [p]Stone Golems now drop more Stone, befitting their name.[/p]
🐛 Bug Fixes
• [p]Graphic settings now save properly between sessions.[/p]
  • [p]“Kill inside circle” objectives now only depend on whether you’re actually inside the circle, instead of being based on enemies' placement.[/p]
  • [p]Manual Aim now works correctly in the Lava realm.[/p]
  • [p]Ranged enemies and their projectiles are now easier to spot in combat. Same for the Myrmidons.[/p]
  • [p]Summary screen now includes damage caused by statuses.[/p]
  • [p]You should no longer get stuck on power transformation screen.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed a rare bug where you could get stuck inside structures. There is no place to hide now.[/p]
[p]And much more![/p]
📜 The Road So Far
[p]There’s always a bit of fear in releasing a game into the world. You never know what players will love, what they’ll demand with each update (Endless Mode was a long time coming…), or what will quietly crash in the background while you sleep during the release (broken saves on day one, anyone? We hope no one here remembers).[/p][p]But over the past months, you’ve helped shape Achilles: Survivor into something we’re truly proud of.[/p][p]During Early Access, we:[/p]
  • [p]Got rid of 863 bugs,[/p]
  • [p]Added Survivors, realms, powers, game modes, and more than a few spiders to the game,[/p]
  • [p]Survived reading thousands of comments, reviews, and Discord messages (thank you!)[/p]
[p]What’s next?
Well, that’s a question for another day. Today, we celebrate (and stay ready in case something breaks. Gotta love working in gamedev). [/p][p]Thank you for being here with us. We hope you enjoy 1.0 - and everything still to come.[/p][p]All the best from Toruń 💙[/p][p]~Dark Point Games Team[/p][p][/p][p]PS: If you’ve read this far… we’ve got a challenge for you.[/p][p]To celebrate version 1.0 and the arrival of Endless Mode, we’re running a Discord competition. [/p][p]Your mission:
🎯 Survive as long as you can on Endless Greece Coastline and post a screenshot in the right channel.[/p][p]Winners will earn a digital copy of one of our games, for any platform.[/p][p]▶ Full rules in the #survivor-news channel on Discord!
Good luck - and don't die too fast.[/p]
