The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria™ News

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Soundtrack Available Now!

We’re excited to share that with the launch of the Golden Update we have also launched The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria™ Soundtrack!

Singing has been one of the pillars of the game from the start, and it’s a feature that’s close to our hearts as developers—and we know it’s something the community has come to love too!

The soundtrack includes 34 tracks, a mix of songs from Tolkien’s stories adapted for the game, as well as brand-new ones composed by Songwriter Teddy Edelston alongside our Music Designer Max Lescohier and Composer Jason Butler. We had the honor of working with some incredible singers and musicians who have sung for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Opera.

When we set out to create the soundtrack, we dove deep into what makes dwarven culture so special. Dwarves are known to be fond of drinking and mining, but they’re also so much more than that. They’re hardworking, caring, and incredibly skilled craftspeople. We wanted the soundtrack to reflect that complexity, so we crafted music that’s as multi-dimensional as they are. You’ll hear everything from lively tavern songs to themes of love, camaraderie, and culture. We thought a folksy vibe, drawing inspiration from the American gold rush and sea shanties, really captured the spirit of the Dwarves, also.

The Return to Moria Official Soundtrack is available now as part of our Launch Offer on Steam - an amazing price that you may never see again :) The bundle includes all 34 original tracks, the Return to Moria Digital Art Exhibition, and the full game with all the latest content and features. If you’re curious about how the soundtrack came together, check out our Behind the Scenes interview with Max and Teddy below. Happy listening!

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Digital Art Exhibition

Free Range Games are proud to present the official Art Exhibition of Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria!

From the moment we began working on Return to Moria, the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings has inspired the Free Range Games artists. We all share vivid memories of poring over hand-drawn maps of Middle-earth, and marveling at the original illustrations in the first editions. So we always knew we wanted to bring this world to life through visuals in our game. The Digital Art Exhibition takes the reader through not only our game development process, but on a journey through the past few years as we share our love for the art of The Lord of the Rings.

From the Foreword: It was with great excitement and no small amount of reverence that we dedicated ourselves to this project. To fully realize a place as evocative as Moria, we had to take the written work and expand upon it, fill in some gaps, and also reconnect the setting with the outside world of Middle-earth as it exists in the Fourth Age. We took every consideration we could to do this with respect to the original material. We hope you enjoy the products of those efforts as much as we enjoyed creating them.

Art Director

Return to Moria on Steamdeck - update!

Hi all - we're happy to report that we've been hard at work on testing all of our compatibility and working with Steam on verification. Wanted to give you all an update, as we have just received an upgrade to "Playable" status!

  • Automatic controller support out of the box, no need to goto Settings first
  • Runs really smooth in solo play, and launches to your Steam Deck resolutions (such as 1280x800)
  • Once installed, Return to Moria is fully capable of offline play if you're on the go!
  • Due to memory constraints hosting on multiplayer may affect load times and frame rate, (your mileage may vary.)
  • We’ve worked on the little things like proper font support, handling of the in-game keyboard and text entry via controllers, so you don’t have to break immersion in the game
  • Built in Proton
  • Uses our Xbox-style iconography for all button input
  • Updated: All in-game links should now properly open browser windows on device (such as Terms of Service)

So we hope all the Steam Deck fans enjoy it, and please let us know if you have any questions!

We also have been looking to collect any helpful guides for the Steamdeck, so please share those and we'll try to highlight them if we see them!
