HELLBREAK Joins Steam Next Fest – Big Demo Update Coming!

We've been quiet for a bit, but we’re back with exciting news!

HELLBREAK is officially participating in Steam Next Fest from February 24 to March 3!
To prepare for the event, we’re releasing a big update for the demo tomorrow, stay tuned for details!

Demo Update #6

[h2]Greetings, champions of hell! 🩸[/h2]


A new update has arrived with more fixes and improvements to enhance your experience. While it’s been a while since the last patch, we’ve been hard at work on the full game, which is why updates to the demo have slowed down a bit. Rest assured, as we approach the Early Access launch, the demo will continue to receive updates and some exciting new features to prepare you for what’s coming.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Key displays now update correctly after assigning a custom value and then resetting to default.
  • Gorath will no longer charge toward the player if there is an elevation difference between him and the player.
  • Resolved and improved multiple issues with flying enemy AI.
  • Fixed an issue causing ranged enemies to stay idle for 1 second in certain scenarios.
  • Resolved a bug where the game wouldn't end correctly if the last enemy timed out instead of being killed.
  • Fixed and improved multiple issues related to sliding near walls.
  • Resolved a rare issue causing enemy attack cooldowns to pause intermittently.
  • Fixed an issue where the weapon buff overlay was not appearing for the Rip&Tear blessing (damage after melee hit).


[h2]New & Improved[/h2]
  • Japanese Localization: The game is now available in Japanese!
  • The Grimoire now opens automatically during your first blessing selection, making it easier to understand blessings. After the first time, it can still be accessed manually during blessing selection.
  • Blessings are now not clickable for the first 0.5 seconds after opening the blessing selection screen, preventing accidental selections.

Another update is here, bringing crucial fixes and balance changes to enhance your trials in hell. Dive into the details below!

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Resolved an issue where cooldown-affecting blessings (e.g., dash cooldown reduction on kill) would reset the cooldown if the timer went below 0.
  • Fixed an issue where area-affecting blessings did not update correctly, causing some enemies to be affected even when out of range.
  • Addressed a bug that broke Gorath’s AI when stunned during his charge attack.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Grimoire and Active Blessings menu from opening after completing the first trial in a play session.
  • Resolved an issue causing the main menu background to stretch on wide screens.
  • Fixed bugs that caused some health regeneration blessings to not count towards health regeneration missions.
  • Fixed an issue where certain blessings, especially those related to health regeneration, disrupted on-screen effects like taking damage or Aegis visuals.
  • Resolved an issue where mouse inputs were ignored for skipping loading screens.


[h2]Changes[/h2]

[h3]Soul Erosion Blessing Update[/h3]
  • The side effect of this blessing, which reduced the healing of health pickups by 80%, has been adjusted to now reduce healing by only 30%.
  • The second blessing reward of Gholgoroth (Soul Erosion) has had its color adjusted for easier differentiation from the first reward.

We’ve rolled out another update to improve your gameplay experience, fix some pesky bugs, and make tweaks to keep the action as intense as ever. But first, a huge thank you to everyone who supported us during the Bullet Heaven Fest, despite only having a demo, HELLBREAK was one of the most popular games in the event! Your enthusiasm drives us to make the game even better. Check out the full details of this update below:

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed an issue where controller inputs for UI buttons would continue working when the related UI was not visible, causing multiple issues such as resetting key bind changes.
  • Resolved and improved various issues related to AI navigation.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented mouse inputs from being bound to movement actions.
  • Fixed an issue where the mouse icon could interact with UI while invisible, causing some buttons to appear highlighted.
  • Fixed an issue allowing the same blessing to be equipped twice in some cases.
  • Addressed multiple focus and highlight issues on the equipment screen.
  • Improved an issue causing projectile effects to sometimes briefly appear excessively long in length.


[h2]Steam Deck Focused Fixes[/h2]
  1. Default resolution is now set to 1280x720p. New users will have this setting applied automatically, while existing users are recommended to use the auto-detect option in the video settings.
  2. Fixed an issue causing controller icons to display as PlayStation icons instead of Xbox.


[h2]Changes[/h2]
  • No More Pickup Timers: Health and ammo pickups will now remain active indefinitely, removing the previous 30-second timer.
  • Increased Ammo for Demo Weapons: The total ammo count for the Banshee, Viper, and Bloodfang has been increased by one clip each, adding 9, 25, and 6 extra ammo respectively.
  • Ranged Enemy Tweaks: Ranged enemies now have a rotation limit, giving players a better chance to dodge projectiles at close range, especially when dashing.
  • Warden (Red Crystal-Throwing Enemies) Range Reduction: The maximum range of the Warden enemy has been reduced from 50m to 30m for a fairer challenge.
  • Consistent Blessing Effects: Weapon-related blessings, such as applying a curse, now consistently trigger before damage is applied. Previously, effects like the Inferno explosion might not trigger if the enemy died too quickly.
  • Improved Blessing Differentiation: The second blessing reward (Abyssal Ward) of Varkoth has had its color adjusted to make it easier to distinguish from the first reward.
  • Clickable Key Displays: The key displays for Esc, Options, and the Active Blessings menu are now clickable.
  • UI Visibility Improvements: The font size for Combat Tips and the Soul count has been increased for better readability.
