Where RPG meets MMO: how Elder Scrolls Online revives Oblivion

The Elder Scrolls Online's next year-long adventure is taking the MMORPG's fans to Oblivion, the hellish realm inhabited by the Daedra that was the focus of The Elder Scrolls IV. Like its single-player forebear, The Gates of Oblivion expansion will explore the Daedric realm of the Deadlands, and this time its dreaded overlord will take centre stage: prince of darkness and destruction, Mehrunes Dagon. Revealed in a teaser trailer loaded with imagery of a chthonic hellscape, naturally, the adventure promises new locatiosn to explore, bosses to best, and a murder mystery narrative to sink your gnashers into.

ZeniMax has now unveiled The Gates of Oblivion in broad strokes in a new studio livestream but, ahead of The Gates of Oblivion's launch, we're diving a little deeper.

Will Oblivion gates burst forth all over Tamriel, spewing Daedra into its towns and wilderness? What will players face in the Deadlands? Who is helping Mehrunes Dagon conquer the mortal realm? To find out, we spoke to creative director Rich Lambert.

They've gone and revealed more details about the expansion called The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood, which will add a new explorable zone by the same name, Oblivion gate world events, and a companion NPC system.

The Alliance Breton Terrier pets

Finally, throughout the event, harvesting nodes within Cyrodiil and the Imperial City will drop double their regular resources, and the Cyrodiil merchant Adhazabi Aba-daro (also known as “The Golden”) stocks Alliance War Legendary-quality jewelry, with necklaces during the first weekend and rings during the second.
Event Tickets & Unstable Morpholiths
During the Midyear Mayhem event, you can earn up to three Event Tickets per day by completing two different PvP activities:
  • Two tickets for completing any Cyrodiil or Battlegrounds daily quest
  • One ticket for completing any Imperial City district daily quests

The Event Ticket timer resets at 1:00AM EDT each morning. Note that if you earn new Event Tickets over the 12-limit cap, you’ll lose them.

This Midyear Mayhem event also introduces a brand-new series of base and upgrade fragments for the year! These fragments will allow you to summon the new Unstable Morpholith pet and eventually upgrade the pet into different items throughout 2021. You can begin collecting your pet fragments by picking them up from the Impresario for Event Tickets.

Be careful when handling the Unstable Morpholith pet!

Here’s everything the Impresario will stock during the Midyear Mayhem event:
  • Unstable Morpholith base fragments
    • Including the Deadlands Flint, Rune-Etched Striker, and Smoldering Bloodgrass Tinder
  • The first Unstable Morpholith upgrade fragment
    • The Rune-Scribed Daedra Hide
  • Ebonsteel Armor Outfit Style pages (can’t be traded)
  • Second Legion Outfit Style pages (can’t be traded)
  • Breton Terrier pet
  • Midyear Grab Bags
    • Containing a collectible you don’t currently have from previous Midyear Mayhem events
  • Group Repair Kits

Once you have all three base fragments, you’ll be able to summon your Unstable Morpholith pet from your Collections UI. During the event, you can also collect the first upgrade fragment to eventually upgrade your Morpholith into the Deadlands Scorcher skin!

The Deadlands Scorcher skin

As you might have guessed, the Unstable Morpholith and fragments work the same way as the Indrik feathers and berries did from previous events. Simply collect them during the events and use them to unlock new collectible rewards! For more on these new rewards and Event Tickets in general, check out our guide.
Mayhem Returns
