Steam Awards Underway | November 28 Update: New Deck Expanded Mahjong
Hello everyone!
We are planning to push an update on November 28 that introduces a new deck, Expanded Mahjong, along with several optimizations and fixes for known issues from the previous build.
The 2025 Steam Awards are now underway. We’ve always hoped that Aotenjo could be your pastime choice, letting the crisp clack of tiles ease the mind and finding peace building your hand. If you’ve felt that relaxation while playing, we would be incredibly heartened if you could nominate Aotenjo for "Sit Back and Relax" at Steam Awards!
Time flies and the game has already journeyed through three major seasonal updates. We’ve introduced the Wooden and Dessert Tiles, as well as the Scarlet, Yin-Yang, and Gourd Mahjong, each with dozens of new artifacts, gadgets, and patterns. By exploring and blending different mahjong rules from all around the world, we hope to bring you the unique charm on each of them.
This time Expanded Mahjong draws inspiration from Hong Kong Style Taiwanese Mahjong. Unlike traditional 13-tile mahjong, this deck uses a 16-tile hand, hence “expanded.”
The core feature of this deck is: more tiles in hand, more possibilities in patterns. With a larger hand, your can aim for more complex patterns and their combinations. We’ve also added over ten exclusive patterns for Expanded Mahjong, along with two special play modes: Eight Pairs Half and Variant Thirteen Orphans. If you enjoy exploring unusual strategies and experimenting with creative plays, this new deck may spark new enjoyment.
You can find the detailed patch notes below for easy reference. If you encounter any problems while playing, please join our official Discord server to share your feedback, and we'll work to fix them as soon as possible.
