Dev Blogpost no. 2 - Going Back in Time

Hello there!

If lately you’ve been closely listening to and observing nature, you could feel it in your bones that it’s time for… another update on Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts! Development is still full steam ahead as we continue shaping the core of the game. We’re testing, refining, and figuring out what needs to be added, what’s working well, and what might not make the final cut. We’re bursting with ideas, and to be frank, we’d love to hear yours too! If you have suggestions for features or content you'd like to see, please don’t hesitate to share them with us in the comments below.

Alright, so let’s show you what we’ve been up to! For today’s blog, we’re giving you a peek at what we’ve been working on over the last few weeks. Let’s dive in, shall we?
More pieces inside!
A few of us in the team have been deep inside research and going back in time to the medieval ages. We’ve been looking through manuscripts and other historical materials to find the perfect references for elements that we can add to our game. Lately, we looked at the jobs and occupations a typical medieval person might do back then and see how they were represented in marginalia and medieval art. Our thinking was that they could be a gold mine of pieces and elements for our game. Well, here are a few that we recreated and already added to Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts.

The Bakery

The Farm

Everything you see in those images is yours to play with — mix, match, and create to your heart’s content. What do you think?!

Below, you’ll find an example of how the same elements can be recombined to produce entirely different pieces of marginalia.

These are just the first two examples of what’s in store. We’re working on many more “packs” and themes, but we don’t want to spoil all the surprises just yet. Stay tuned for more reveals in the future!

Want to stay updated on all things Scriptorium? Follow us on our social media channels! We’re active on Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, Discord, and now Bluesky! Join us on one or all of these platforms to stay in the loop. Your feedback is invaluable, so feel free to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions with us there. Together, we can shape Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts into something truly special.

Lastly, we have some big changes coming to our studio. What it is is still top secret, as we’re ironing out the final details and will share more about this exciting news soon. Keep an eye on our updates - we promise it’ll be worth the wait!

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts on these new additions to the game. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Until next time,

Dev Blogpost no. 1 - Humans, Patrons and Dreams

Hello there!

It’s been some time since our announcement back in August. Two months just flew by, hasn’t it!?! It goes without saying that your reception to our game blew us away; the love, the positivity, and the super cool comments filled us with joy, collective smiles, tons of “heck yeahs!” and of course, lots of motivation to keep going. So for that, thank you. It means a lot to all of us here.

Now we feel it’s the perfect time for our first-ever Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts Dev Blog! We know what you’re in here for. It’s all about the behind-the-scenes gossip and glimpses!

Let us start by saying that although we’re still a bit away from release, the development of our game is in full swing. We’re constantly refining and expanding, drawing inspiration from countless medieval manuscripts, historical texts, and real-life figures to bring authenticity to our design. Alongside these creative additions, we’re continuously testing content, fixing bugs, tweaking aspects we feel could be better, and even redesigning key elements when necessary. It’s a dynamic process, and we’re committed to ensuring the game is in its best possible shape for its release. With some time still ahead, we’re pouring all our energy into development. But for now, let’s take a look at what we’ve been working on over the past month and a bit. So let's dive in, shall we?
Human Elements
One of the major pieces of feedback we've received is the request for more human characters and human elements in the game. And we’ve heard you loud and clear! We’ve been hard at work, not only adding these human touches but making sure they fit seamlessly into the world we’ve built. To keep things as authentic as possible, we’ve been diving deep into original medieval manuscripts, searching for and uncovering the most intriguing human figures and elements from the past. Once we find the ones that stand out, we faithfully reproduce, export, and cut them into pieces to build a visually appealing human elements pack. This process is still ongoing. We’re constantly testing to see which manuscripts work best, tweaking our choices, and ensuring every detail feels right for the game. So, if YOU have any specific human figures or medieval manuscript illustrations you’d love to see in the game, now’s the perfect time to let us know! Drop your suggestions in the comments and help guide the direction of our game. We’re building this game with you for you, and we want to hear your voice. Here are a few examples of what we’ve been working on and how it’s looking so far.
New Clients, New Challenges
Speaking of manuscripts, we’ve also been working on expanding the game’s client list. We want more patrons who will visit your scriptorium, each with unique requests for you to fulfill. We are still working on the details such as what they will request, what their quirks are, do they love something specific perhaps. So there’s still more to do. But, for now, we can show you what we’ve got and how some of them look. Quite a varied-looking bunch, isn’t it?!

Alongside historical figures, you’ll also encounter characters that we’ve designed ourselves, including a special group of collaborators! Since our work on Inkulinati, we’ve built strong relationships with some of the best medieval content creators, whom you may know from Twitter/X, Instagram, or YouTube. The exciting news? They’ll be joining us in Scriptorium, designing custom commissions just for you. This is your chance to not only create something unique but also share your work with these creators directly on socials! We’ll be introducing these creators in upcoming Dev Blogs, but for now, if you think one of your favourite creators would make a great client-commissioner in Scriptorium, let us know in the comments below.
The Dreams of the Scribe
After a long day of meticulous work, even the most dedicated Scribe needs some rest. Once you finish a task, your day will end and you will get a good night’s sleep. This is the part that we’ve been working on recently too to improve it more. We’ve been testing a new graphical feature showcasing the dreams of your hardworking Scribe. Through these dreams, we aim to inspire you a little bit, to make your brains percolate with new ideas and different ways of how you can use the elements in the game. We hope that maybe these dreams will help you create something different for your patrons the next day in your Scriptorium workshop. Here’s a little insight below…

Now, these are just a small part of what we’ve been working on. There’s been a lot more that we crossed from our To-do list, but we don’t want to spoil all the surprises. We’ll leave it to your imagination to fill in the gaps.

Also, a question for you all. Now that you’ve seen what Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts is all about, do you have any ideas or wishes for what you’d like to see in the game? We are looking for suggestions of your favourite medieval manuscripts, medieval art, historical characters, stories, etc. Let us know your suggestions in the comments below. Your feedback will help us shape the game, so don’t be shy and share away!

Thanks again for your support, share your thoughts with us, and we can’t wait to show you more soon!

Have a wonderful day, and speak to you soon.
