Pre-Release FAQs

Hello Everyone,

As some of you may know, Gnomes is made by a small team of two developers, we set out to make a tower defense passion project. Since releasing the demo, Gnomes has exploded in popularity which has been quite overwhelming for us. We never could have anticipated the support we've received for your community and fans. You have our most sincere thanks, this experience has been truly life-changing.

It is our intention to launch a feature complete version game that offers our entire vision of the gameplay experience we wanted to create. We wanted to get the game in the hands of our players as soon as possible, so there are some non-essential features that we will be taking care of post-launch.

Here we will provide are the official answers to some of your frequently asked questions and will continue to make updates here and through official announcements. to keep you informed as things change.
Will the Gnomes be available in languages other than English?
- Not initially, in order to prevent delaying our launch any further we will only be supporting English on launch day. However, we are going to work closely with our community to facilitate language support once we have finished all of the essential "must haves" of the game.
Is there plans for future Gnomes content?
- As it stands we have fulfilled our original scope and vision for Gnomes. However, if there is demand from our players and our resources permit, we may add additional content in the future.
Will the Gnomes include Steam Deck and Controller Support?
- Only mouse and keyboard will be officially supported at launch. However, the game works very well on Steam deck, and there are already some great community controller layouts. In the future we will add controller support and an officially supported Steam Deck version. However, we want to take the time to do this properly, rather than rushing in a sub par version of either.
Will mod support/Steam Workshop be available?
- Not at launch, however we will investigate the technical feasibility of different levels of mod support post-launch pending player demand.
Will Gnomes have Linux and MacOS support?
- Gnomes currently works perfectly on Linux with Proton.
- Unfortunately, the MacOS security certification process is impossible for us at this time.
What game engine was used to create Gnomes and why?
- We have created a custom game engine using Rust, OpenGL and FMOD. Our custom engine is purpose build for Gnomes which has allowed us to drastically cut development time and resources. However there has been some short comings which still need to be addressed (controller support, localization, etc).

We will update the FAQs as more questions appear. In the meantime, feel free to join the Discord community if you have any further questions and suggestions: https://discord.gg/Bw9m5Nuna2
