Whisper #1 - Welcome to Cult of the Child Eater

[p][/p][p][/p]
Welcome to Cult of the Child Eater
[p][/p][p]This is the first of many whispers from our team - fragments carried out of the orphanage, pieces of a story too dreadful to stay hidden. We'll share more of the game's world, secrets, and path to Early Access with each Whisper.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
The Source - Where did it all begin?
[p][/p][p]The seed of the Cult of the Child Eater was planted in the idea of helplessness. Not gore, not endless shock, but the kind of dread that build when you are trapped in a place that should feel safe, and every shadow whispers otherwise[/p][p][/p][p]Set in Eastern Europe in the early 1980s, the game draws from Cold War tension, authentic Eastern Bloc architecture, and folklore surrounding Moloch, the Child Eater - an ancient hunger for sacrifice.[/p][p][/p][p]We asked ourselves: What if the walls of an orphanage concealed a cult that fed children to their god? What if you were the last orphans left on the night of their final ritual?[/p][p][/p][p]The question became the foundation of this game.[/p][p][/p]
The Orphanage - Not just a setting
[p][/p][p]The orphanage is more than a backdrop - it is the enemy. Its main building, abandoned wings, twisted garden, and the woods leading to the lake form a layered trap.[/p][p][/p][p]Every session plays out differently: puzzles rearrange, traps reset, and even the garden maze reshapes itself. Lukas’ notes - fragments left by an orphan who once escaped - provide players with crucial clues to survive.[/p][p][/p][p]Escape is never simple. Unlocking doors, disabling traps, and solving puzzle chains requires precision and teamwork. Mistakes carry weight: the wrong move can trigger alarms or draw attention from the cultists.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
The Phases - A Descent into Terror
[p][/p][p]Survival unfolds across three escalating phases:[/p][p][/p][p]Phase 1: The Main Building[/p][p][/p][p]The orphanage doors close. Caretakers - priests and nuns - patrol the halls. You have ten minutes to find your way out before the Turning begins.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Phase 2: The Wings & Garden[/p][p][/p][p]These abandoned wings harbor the monsters born from past séances. Somewhere within lurks the Child Eater itself. Puzzles grow deadlier. The garden maze shifts with every attempt, a living trap set to consume you.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Phase 3: The Woods & Lake[/p][p][/p][p]Somewhere within lurks the Child Eater itself. This belongs to phase 3. Player can decide to face her or run...[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
The Enemies - The Faces of the Cult
[p][/p][p]Fear is not faceless.[/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Priests crawl walls and ceilings, dropping suddenly onto prey.[/p]
  • [p]Nuns scream as they hunt, their shrieks shaking your vision.[/p]
  • [p]Turned caretakers prowl the halls, relentless after the Turning.[/p]
  • [p]And above them all stands Diana Nowak, once the Abbess, now mutilated into the cult’s avatar: the Child Eater.[/p]
[p][/p][p]Each enemy force different survival tactics. You cannot fight them. You can only hide, distract, and run. But even hiding has limits - the longer you cower, the more fear takes hold.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
The Orphans - Who You Play As
[p][/p][p]You are not soldiers or heroes. You are children.[/p][p][/p][p]Up to six players can attempt to escape together, though only the cunning and coordinated players survive. Each run reveals more - fragments of Detective Horvath’s journal, notes from Lukas, whispers of the cult’s history.[/p][p][/p][p]Your character will grow over time, unlocking progression that reveals deeper secrets and prepares you for greater horrors in future escapes.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
What's Next
[p][/p][p]Early Access Phase 1 will feature the main orphanage building, with puzzles, patrolling enemies, and the Turning. Future updates will expand into the wings, garden, and woods, alongside progression systems and story revelations.[/p][p][/p][p]This is just the first Whisper. There are many more to come.[/p]
Update – postponed Early Access release

[p][/p][p]Release Update – New Timeline [/p][p]Hey everyone,[/p][p]We’ve made the decision to shift the Early Access and full release of Cult of the Child Eater by about 2–3 months.[/p][p]This wasn’t an easy call — we know many of you are eager to play — but this extra time will help us deliver the kind of horror experience we’ve always aimed for: one that’s immersive, polished, and fully worth your time.[/p][p]While we haven’t shared much publicly over the past few months, development has never slowed down for a second. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes, and the current internal version of the game already includes many new features, improvements, and content that go far beyond what’s currently available in the public build.[/p][p]Here’s what the extra time is helping us focus on:[/p]
  • [p]More puzzles overall — including co-op-friendly designs that are more satisfying and encourage player collaboration[/p]
  • [p]Stronger, more dynamic horror moments that build tension[/p]
  • [p]A plethora of new gameplay features and more extensive progression systems to keep players engaged over time[/p]
  • [p]A more fleshed-out story with expanded lore and richer worldbuilding[/p]
  • [p]Extensive bug fixing and polish to improve visuals, boost performance, and ensure a smoother, more stable gameplay experience

    [/p]
[p]And don’t worry — you won’t be left in the dark while we continue development. Starting now, we’ll be posting more regular updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and progress previews across our channels. If you’ve been curious about what’s going on, you’ll be able to follow it all much more closely.[/p][p]Thank you for your continued support and patience — it means a lot to us.[/p][p]

major incident affecting Unity Services - preventing players to create matches

[p]Dear PLayers![/p][p] We are currently experiencing a major incident affecting Unity Services, as reported on their status page. Due to this issue, authentication for the voice chat feature is currently not working.[/p][p] Since voice chat is an essential part of our game, rooms cannot be started while the service is down. This may prevent players from joining or creating matches. [/p][p]The issue originates from Unity’s infrastructure, and we are closely monitoring the situation. We will keep you updated and notify you as soon as everything is back to normal.[/p][p][/p][p] Thank you for your understanding and patience.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
