Since the latest Playtest Week we polished the game a lot, and added several new things:
  • Unique progression for all playable characters,
  • Difficulty levels,
  • New cinematics,
  • Detectable proximity voice chat,
  • New tutorial system,
  • Reworked GUI,
  • Interactive roadmap about the development

Thank you for playtesting Cult of the Child Eater! Lot of you played and gave feedbacks, which was very helpful on our road of development. We try to implement all of the things you suggested and eliminate all of the bugs you found.

Our next step is to prepare ourselves for the upcoming Steam Next Fest: more content and mechanics will come to the demo, so don't miss the next chance when we open the door of the orphanage from June 9th to June 16th!

Playtest Patch Note

1.1.43 patch notes:
New Features:

Added unique sound effects for each channeling animation.,
Now there is an automatic puzzle selection when the previous one is solved.,
Added a sound effect and voice line when an Exit door opens.,
Added map indicators to indicate the opening of an Exit door.,
The 5th ping, which puts your pinging on cooldown is now a different color.,

Puzzle Improvements:

Revamped the visual design of the Quiz puzzle.,
Fixed inconsistencies in the new Quiz questions and added brand-new, verified questions.,
Reworked the Picture Sorter puzzle for more dynamic gameplay and resolved related bugs.,
Modified Photo Zoomer: color-based solutions now enlarge pieces instead of changing their color.,
Corrected the Experiment puzzle so players can no longer stack flasks on each other.,

UI Improvements:

Updated Channeling UI to display current action details.,
Journal based solution input now provides proper feedback on incorrect puzzle solutions.,
Added an inventory-full indicator.,
Added even more first-time examine indicators for new items.,
Replaced the "Solve it" Button with "Enter Code" button under journal based solution puzzles.,
Added an "Objectives Updated" indicator on the UI when a puzzle location was revealed on the Map.,

Bug Fixes & Stability:

Fixed several voice-chat issues.,
Multiple minor fixes and polish across UI and systems.

1.1.29 Patch went live today!

General
Fixed the examine and drop confusion on the Controls UI,,
Unusable (placeholder) items are now not lootable,,
Collectible items are now labeled properly as “Collectibles” (these are just placeholders in the playtest version),,
New tutorial/onboarding screens on first playthrough (can be reset in Settings → Reset Tutorial),,
Puzzle items are now automatically removed from the inventory once they're no longer needed (e.g., fuses and other puzzle items won't clutter your inventory once they are solved),,
Fixed several uninteractable items and incorrect puzzle spawn positions,,
Player icons on the map have been updated for better visibility,,
Added new map icons for players who are downed or being carried,,
All puzzle-related icons on the map are now yellow instead of white,,
Maximized self-revive penalty to prevent it from scaling indefinitely,,

Item Balance Updates:
Several items received buffs,,
Small Mirrors and Sacred Crosses can now be used on both humans and NPCs,,
Small Mirror immobilize duration increased from 6 → 8 seconds for monsters, and now applies 4 seconds to humans,,
Sacred Cross immobilize duration increased from 6 → 8 seconds for humans, and now applies 4 seconds to monsters,,
Increased the sound radius of Firecracker, Radio, and Bottle to attract NPCs more effectively,,
Increased the duration of the Nun soda stamina boost from 10 -> 20 seconds,,
Temporarily removed the Rosary — it will return once fixed,,
Updated item and puzzle descriptions to reflect these changes,,

Puzzle Fixes and Updates:
Fixed a Symbol-based puzzle bug,,
Quiz puzzle questions replaced with ones that emphasize reasoning over vocabulary,,
Fixed an issue with the Mastermind puzzle,,
Fixed an issue with the Nine Buttons puzzle,,
Hot N Cold puzzle functionality changed (no spoilers—figure it out!)
