Nubby News #14 (2/21/2026)

[p] My dearest nubs,

Welcome to the 14th edition of Nubby News! If you haven't been around since April/May of 2025 and you're here because you're craving your Weekly Nubby News fix, I regret to inform you that A) nubby news ain't weekly no more and B) nubby news has actually never been weekly and you are either misremembering that or losing your mind. Speaking of weeks, quite a few have gone by since I last spoke publicly about nubby, so I decided to mainly dedicate this edition of Nubby News to breaking my silence about... nubby's mobile port!!?!

Aside from the nubby mobile status update, I'm starting with a brief run down of last Thursday's v1.4.3 patch and also discussing localization plans for nubby. Enjoy!

V1.4.3 Patch:
==========

Over the past couple months I've kept working on NNF every now and then, primarily just fixing issues as they're reported to me. As of 2 days ago, I decided that my list of miscellaneous changes had grown long enough to warrant a patch, so I put out a patch! If you recall my announcement in Nubby News #13 about focusing my attention to new projects of mine, this patch is the sort of update that you can expect for the time being. That announcement does not however apply to nubby mobile because preparing the port for release is my top priority right now.

While no content updates are planned for nubby in the foreseeable future, I don't think I'm probably ever going to be done updating nubby to make technical / accessibility improvements. Thursday's patch v1.4.3 is a great example of such an update - including mainly bug fixes, the addition of the first of hopefully many localizations - Brazilian Portuguese, and a revamp of the cyborg nubby skin cosmetic artwork as per request of the original artist behind the cosmetic.

I kind of just glossed over the whole localization thing, but I really want to express how great I think it is that the text of nubby can be read in Brazilian Portuguese now! Shoutout to Frank Lopes, a localization volunteer of the NNF community for putting together the Brazilian Portuguese localization! Frank deserves all the credit for the great work!

If you're interested, here's the v1.4.3 patch notes.

Plans for Localization in NNF (And how you can help!):
==========

As for what to expect for nubby localizations moving forward, more languages are still yet to come and they are being added to the game as they are completed by volunteer community members. I am always looking for volunteers to help with localizing the in-game text and/or the nubby steam page text! If you speak English + another language fluently and are interested in localizing the game, contact me via email ([email protected]) or via discord (@mogdogblog). While I wish I could say yes to everyone, I can't guarantee that I will be able to accept your offer because I accept localization help on a first-come basis, with typically only one person / team working on one language at a time. Though, it doesn't hurt to ask if you're willing to help! I will try my best to respond to your message within 5 days.[/p][p]
Also, you do not need a background in programming or game development to help! It is pretty easy to start making progress once you get familiar with the process. I also supply in-depth instructions for localization and I am very responsive to any questions that come up. Regardless of whether I'm able to accept your help, I am very grateful for your willingness to volunteer your time and energy to make NNF globally accessible. Thank you, thank you!

Nubby Mobile News:
==========

Here we are! In the v1.4.3 patch notes linked above I mentioned that nubby's mobile port (ios & android) was "done, but not released yet". To clear the air around nubby mobile, I'd like to talk about what's been going on over the past few months with the port, and also talk about the current state of the port today, 2/21/26. Before I say anything, I'll start by saying that it is not my intention with this post to reveal the exact release date in which you will be able to play the mobile port (for reasons I will explain further down in this section).

To sum up the past 3-4 months of mobile port development - last November the port was done and sitting only a few weeks away from release. That was until I released v1.4 for nubby on steam in mid-November. As you may know, this single update took several months to develop and added a ton of content. Problem was, the mobile port was done... however the v1.4 update was not ported to mobile yet. Our options were to either release the port in mid-December without any of the v1.4 content, or we could take an extra 3-4 months to port v1.4 to mobile and release the port up to date with nubby on steam. Ultimately, I decided that it would be unfair to expect you to be happy with paying the same price as the pc version only to receive 75% of the content as you would on steam. I think a lot of people would have been disappointed with that. I hate delays, especially after 7-8 months of development. I think it's fair to be a little frustrated, but I hope you can see that I'm just trying to do what's right for the player. Thank you for being patient! We are almost there!

Fast forward through 3 months of porting v1.4 to mobile and here we are today! Today we are once again back at the same spot we were in last November, but now it's for real... The port is done for all devices and the only things left to do is to set up both store pages for the appstore & google play, then we launch! On both android and ios, there will be a free lite version of nubby as well as a full version that will cost $4.99 USD. The free lite version is basically a visually revamped clone of the demo on steam and the full version app is as close to a 1:1 copy of the full game on steam as we could manage.

Right now it's just a waiting game while we work on setting up the store pages and await google/apple approval of said store pages. If you've ever published a game on any major online marketplace, you'll know that the approval process for publishing a store page is extremely slow, frustrating, and demoralizing - and this is true for almost all major marketplace out there. Regardless, we're going to do the best we can and hope for a timely release. As soon as the store pages are posted, I'll probably dedicate a week or so to advertising the mobile port to build some wishlists and hype before release day comes. After that... we launch! Once the store pages are up, I'm gonna be making a handful of announcements on various platforms (including this one) to get the word out. If you truly still love and worship nubby, you will spread the word of nubby mobile and wishlist the app on your apple and/or android device. Nubby will know if you didn't.

This leads me into talking about why I can't give you a specific release day at the moment - despite being so close to launch. As much as I'd love to give you a date, I cannot responsibly say with any acceptable degree of accuracy what day the mobile port will be released. The release date depends on how fast apple and google approve the store pages. To at least leave you with some sort of vague estimate, I think in the worst case scenario we'd be waiting about 7 weeks at most. I hope it won't be that long, and chances are it won't be. I know that this is unfortunately a bit vague, but you can rest assured knowing that as soon as I know for sure when the launch date will be, I will be very loud about it.

That's all I've got to say about the port for now. Hopefully this clears things up a bit for the mobile port enthusiasts because there's been a lot of speculation surrounding the development status of the port. Every single day progress is being made by myself and my porting buddy, and that is the way it has been for the past 8-9 months of development.

To wrap this up, I think it's only fair for me to acknowledge that I have been a bit quiet about the port these past few months. I didn't really bother because I felt like there wasn't much news to update you guys about and it probably would have just sounded like: "yup we're still working on it". In hindsight, I can see why that may have caused some worry, so I apologize if that's been troublesome for you. To make up for the murkiness, if after reading this you still have questions about the mobile port please contact me via email ([email protected]) or via discord (@mogdogblog) and I'll personally respond to your question within 5 days. As long as it's not a question about when the release date of nubby mobile is, I'm an open book.

The End:
==========

That's all for today! As always, thank you so much for supporting my work! Also, thank you for staying patient with me throughout the development of nubby mobile! Hopefully this edition of nubby news quelled any fears you had regarding the whereabouts of the port.

Nubby is prepared to finally transcend the shackles of the format in which he was spawned.

Until next time,
~Mog
