Weekly Nubby News #8 (6/22/2025)

[p]Greeting nubblywubblybubblies,[/p][p][/p][p]Welcome to WNN #8! I hope you've all been doing well since I last checked in. This edition of WNN is going to be relatively small because there haven't been many happenings, but I still felt it was important to give some updates on some upcoming events. [/p][p][/p][p]Also, at the bottom of this post is an opportunity for you to contribute to nubby science. More on that below.

Upcoming patch: V1.3.2 (the autosave patch):[/p][p]==========[/p][p]Game autosaves have been a long time coming. I think this is the longest I've ever spent working on a single feature for Nubby. After 3 weeks of debugging, autosaves are nearing completion. I still have some issues to work out with the autosave system, but things are shaping up nicely. I have received some very generous help from a friend with this feature, so hats off to him for helping me get this out as soon as possible. [/p][p][/p][p]Autosaves are the biggest feature in this patch, but not the only change. I'm also looking to fix some bugs from V1.3.1 and make a few balance changes. Whether or not I decide to make any content additions will be dependent on how much leftover time I have before the release date, which is going to be on Sunday, June 29th. [/p][p][/p][p]I'm really looking forward to getting this hurdle behind me so I can start working on V1.4, which will enter production as soon as V1.3.2 is released. Because V1.3.2 took longer than I expected, I'm adjusting the timeframe for the release of V1.4 to August instead of the end of July. Thank you for being patient, I promise to show pictures of development in upcoming editions of WNN :][/p][p][/p][p]Nubby Science:[/p][p]=========[/p][p]Some members of the community and I have created a survey that asks about your demographic and preferences in nubby (pegboard layout, nubby physics) purely for our own curiosity. The survey is through google forms and is anonymous. We are accepting answers for the next 2 weeks, and then we will put together a presentation or something that discusses our findings in trends and patterns. Weekly Nubby News #7 (News about V1.4)

Welcome to Weekly Nubby News #7 and happy pride month!

In this edition of WNN, I'm going to be briefly discussing my current progress and works in progress, and then setting some expectations for the next major update to nubby... V1.4!!!


Update on V1.3.2 (upcoming patch):
==========

In the development of nubby, V1.3.2 is my current focus. This is the last big patch before V1.4 and it will introduce an autosave / load system. This has proven to be a bit of an obstacle because it involves reworking a lot of code to make this system fit. However, I'm looking forward to finishing this addition because it's a big quality of life improvement. It's a bit difficult to give an exact time estimate on when this will be finished, but I'm hoping to have this patch released around June 12th. That is tentative and subject to change because technical difficulties are likely.

Regardless, it will be nice to be able to start up a game of nubby, save your game, then load back into it the next day when you're bored. Cheers to progress!




Update on nubby mobile:
==========

For those curious about the progress of the mobile port for NNF - things are still trucking along and progress is being made. It isn't near completion yet, but I'm feeling confident about our work pacing and I'm very excited to share this with you all. One day you can bring nubby along with you in your pocket! Pocket nubby!




Discussing V1.4:
==========

Now for the exciting news on V1.4!

I've talked a bit about V1.4 in previous editions of WNN, but I was leaving things vague and my time estimates were quite off. This is going to be a big update and add a lot of things. Before I talk about a release date for V1.4, I want to discuss what you can look forward to!

In V1.4 you can expect:
---
-A cosmetics menu with unlockable nubby skins and peg skins, most cosmetic nubby skins were made by the community way back in the demo days! This menu will be accessible through the title screen. The cosmetics menu will be managed by a very fashionable new character, "Lady La Mode"! (See gif below)

-A "warehouse" menu that is akin to a "bestiary" or encyclopedia of sorts. This menu will display info about items/perks/mechanics and talk about the lore of the number factory (items, characters, nubby, etc.), just for fun! The warehouse will be accessible through the title screen and also introduce a new character, "Sparkplug"! (again, see gif below).

-An ultimate challenge mode (haven't come up with a name yet) that can be accessed after beating all challenges. This game mode will have 10 levels of increasing difficulty. New content will be added in each level that makes the game more difficult. Completing this game mode will be a tough challenge and require an understanding of the game's mechanics to succeed.

-Steam achievements will be added. I'm hoping to add around 12-15 achievements.

-1 new supervisor, "Dwarf Tony". (from the winner of supervisor design contest in march(?)).

-Probably a couple new items and perks.

As for a release date on V1.4, I want to have this done sometime in July. I'm not going to give a specific date for this because it's a lot of new content and its hard to give an estimate when I'm working at this scale.

After V1.4 is released, localization efforts will begin and hopefully many languages will be implemented in the following weeks, credits to the wonderful people who have volunteered to make that possible. To those who will be helping with localization, thank you for your patience.

In the weeks leading up to V1.4, I will continue to make WNN posts and share my progress on V1.4.

Hotfix V1.3.1.5 Patch Notes (5/26/2025)

V1.3.1.5 Hotfix Notes:
==========

Welcome to V1.3.1.5! This is a surprise patch that I wanted to sneak into the current update schedule. The goal of this patch is mainly to fix bugs.

The next patch will implement autosaves. That will be the last patch before V1.4 (which is going to be a big update that adds a lot of stuff.)


Bug fixes:
==========
-Abolished max restock tax
-The croissant perk now actually does what the description says.
-Fixed crashes with minds eye on amnesiac challenge
-Fixed bug where playing as glass tony and then playing as another supervisor would set lives to 2
at the start of the game.
-Fixed more technical issues with force-ending the round.
-Fixed item drag and drop sound fx
-Fixed charity perk and drainer perk crash when googol is reached.
-Actually fixed the squid duping bug this time.
-Added closed and half-open animation frames to the mind's eye toggle button (purely cosmetic)

Additions:
==========
-Added "Moldy Sandwich" item (common, food).
-This item is exclusive to balogna tony.

Balance Changes:
==========
-Completely changed the effect of asbestos (it summons insulation now)
-Buffed alien (changed trigger to "2 pegs doubled ->")

Welcome to Weekly Nubby News #6!

Though, for the time being - this is going to become bi-weekly nubby news. There isn't enough new news to make weekly news posts without it being redundant.

With that out of the way, I'm excited to share some patch news with you all! I'm going to cut right to it and start with discussing some changes to the aforementioned short-term patch schedule.


Changes to the update schedule:
==========

So, with the patch that released on May 16 (V.1.3.1), there were a few bugs introduced and I want to get those fixed up as soon as possible. I've spent the last week fixing bugs and general gameplay issues. This is why I'm going to sneak in a hotfix before V1.3.2 (the patch that will introduce autosave / load features).

The hotfix (V1.3.1.5) will be released tomorrow.

Additionally, I updated the game engine I use to a more recent version that has more features. Unfortunately, doing this also caused many issues and bugs with some old version features getting reworked and made obsolete. Though it was quite frustrating, I've gotten nubby into a stable state and it's pretty much good to go for the hotfix.

After the hotfix is out, I'm going to be working on V1.3.2, which will only add autosaving as a feature. Once V1.3.2 is out, I'm going to start crackin' away at V1.4 (a big update, more info on this big ol' boy will come in the next few weeks. Get hyped for that one!)


What to expect for hotfix V1.3.1.5:
==========

This hotfix isn't going to be huge, but it will fix some annoying bugs that have been bothering me for a while. This hotfix will not fix every bug in the game. Note that this update will be 98% bug fixes, 1% item/perk rebalances, and 1% additions to the game. As always I will be releasing patch notes along with the update tomorrow.

There will be 1 new food item that is exclusive to balogna tony.


Nubby's Number Factory V1.3.1 (large patch)


Welcome to Nubby's Number Factory V1.3.1. This has been a long while coming, and I'm happy to be rolling out Nubby updates again. This isn't the biggest update you'll ever see for the game and it mostly fixes bugs and adds quality of life things. This is the first of two patches coming before the heavily anticipated V1.4 update, which will be probably the biggest update the game will get. Enjoy!



V1.3.1 Patch Notes:

Bug fixes:
=====

-Fixed some suffix naming issues with huge numbers
-Fixed visual bug where the countdown indicator over items appeared above error messages
-Strawberry works in amnesiac now
-Volume of Ouroboros noise now corresponds to sfx volume setting.
-Volume of alternative Evil Goose+ noise now corresponds to sfx volume setting.
-Setting "press button" keybinding to mouse side button 1 or 2 no longer soft locks game.
-Starfruit can no longer be found in "Stay There!" challenge. Not even from fava bean.
-Fixed but where you could still launch nubby / jumble pegs in the lock/key portion of the black market sequence
-Fixed the frame-perfect bug where you could skip special events and boss events by firing nubby before the prompt appears
-Fixed squid duplicating issue.
-Fixed bug where picking items from the black market while playing on criminal tony charges you money. That was unintentional.
-Fixed Jake The Snake+ issue where if he tries to double all pegs twice, it only doubles one peg, twice. It actually doubles all pegs twice now!

Minor changes:
=====
-When eating foods that give perks (croissant,kebab,donut), a perk will appear that floats into your inventory, similar to how it works with loot (this is just for visuals).
-Fishman+ now triggers the most recently obtained perk twice, instead of the two most recently obtained perks once.
-Donut, and Fishman now say what the most recently obtained perk is in their item descriptions.
-In the "Times Up!" challenge, the monstrosity item is replaced by "rabid monstrosity".
-Rabid monstrosity summons 3 meat orbs on first peg popped; rabid monstrosity+ summons 3 disease orbs on first peg popped.
-Added "First peg popped ->" and "Nubby dies ->" triggers as possible outcomes for bologna tony random item triggers.
-Game seed is now displayed in the bottom right corner during the game.
-If you have more than 1x jumble from eating starfruit, the amount of jumbles you have remaining is displayed on the jumble button.
-Revamped E-Block sprite because I lost the blender project file for it womp womp

Semi-Major changes:
=====
-Implemented "mind's eye" mode which allows you to view some useful stats related to the ongoing / previous turn.
-Also highlights the highest peg on the pegboard when you're aiming nubby. This doesn't work on round 1 or the tutorial
-Toggle this on/off by pressing the button in the top left of the factory during a game.
-For reference, this feature was originally called "assist mode" in the WNN steam page posts.

Re-balances / reworks:
=====

-Changed nubbys physics (compromise between v1.3 and v1.4)
-Slightly changed trophy perk to prevent infinite loops early game with poopbutt and others
-Buffed alien trigger
-Decreased how often dupe mystery boxes show up for amnesiac (1 in 10 chance)
-Completely reworked croissant perk
-Reworked glass tony effect: "Maximum lives capped at 2. When an item triggers, it triggers twice. Perks are unaffected."
-Buffed seal, slaps more pegs now.
-Also buffed mutant tony trigger (2 seconds to 1 second)
-Rubber chicken's mutant tony trigger changed to "3 pegs halved ->"
-Buffed raygun perk: 40% chance to trigger instead of 25% chance.

Content additions:
=====
-Added new food item: Soup crackers (rare)
-Added new item: T-Block (common)
-Added new black market item: Flibby Flobbies (rare)
-Added voice overs to all supervisors in the supervisor selection menu
