Coromon Rogue Planet: September Progress Update

Greetings, Battle Explorers!
[p]We wanted to share how things are going behind the scenes at TRAGSoft as we continue development work on Coromon: Rogue Planet. (Psst... If you’re here from Gym Leader Ed’s Monster Tamer Direct, drop a comment below and let us know!)[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][h2]TLDR: How’s it going?[/h2][p]It’s going great! We’ve been adding a ton of new mechanics and overhauling a lot of our systems, which has drastically elevated Coromon: Rogue Planet far beyond our initial expectations. The game has expanded way, way beyond what we had initially envisioned, and we’re so excited about the direction it’s growing in. We’re extremely proud of what we’re making, and we can’t wait to show you more![/p][p]Be sure to wishlist the game to stay tuned and see more updates:[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p]And, if you want to know more about the journey we’ve been on and how we got here, we’ve got you covered—read on![/p][p][/p]
Journey to Rogue Planet
[p]When we originally began work on Rogue Planet in early 2024, we had envisioned it as a roguelite DLC to the first Coromon game. We figured, “Hey, let’s keep it simple—we’ll use the same exact engine, re-utilise a lot of assets from Coromon 1, and we can easily have a fun game in players’ hands within a year!”[/p][p][/p][p]That was right about the time Jaron joined us as lead narrative designer, and we started to really explore the ideas of what Rogue Planet could become. We began building the cast of characters—Buck, Juniper, Merrin, Saige, Dot, and Gunnar—and also started evolving the role of Crimsonite in both the narrative and the gameplay. With the addition of hundreds of random events, the Coromon universe grows larger and more engaging than ever before.[/p][p][/p][p]Not long after, we started getting REALLY excited about what we were seeing in the gameplay possibilities. As the game grew, our team kept growing with it, and we brought on a new Systems Designer, Marcin, who started to evolve the way we thought about the core mechanics. This is what led us to focus on things like double battles, as well as new twists such as the Crimsonite Shield and character-specific battle actions—exponentially increasing the amount of tactical decisions you have to influence the result of a battle![/p][p][/p][p]We brought on several new concept artists to help us build the new starters and help us design some of the exciting new environments that will be featured in the game. This meant exploring a LOT of different designs, and both Thibaud and Kian really rose to the occasion to help bring everything to life! [/p][p][/p][p]We’ve also been handcrafting the Outpost with the team—the hub area where you’ll start and end each expedition into Velua’s Farlands. This is the place each character in the game will call home, and you’ll be able to upgrade and grow it over time, so we knew it needed to be beautiful no matter where you look, and we’re so stoked about how it’s turned out.[/p][p][/p]
Rogue Planet, Now
[p]After working and building for over a year, we’ve seen how much potential the game has, and we pretty quickly realized along the way that it was big enough that, if we wanted to really achieve our vision of the gameplay and all its content, it would need to be its own game. And we’re so glad that we’ve made that decision, because it’s opened up so many design doors for us, and allowed us the creative freedom we needed to deliver something extraordinary.[/p][p]Everything about the game—the battle system, the story, the characters, the locations, the animations—it all feels so fresh and new, and it’s so exciting to watch as it all comes together. We’re getting closer and closer to finishing it every day, and we can’t wait for you to get your hands on it and see all the new features![/p][p][/p]
Updated Release Date
[p]That isn’t all we’ve built for Rogue Planet; we’ve got a lot more to share in the coming months! But, as we’re nearing the end of 2025, we realize that, in order to bring this game to life the way we want to, we’re going to need a little bit more time to polish it. Our new release date is planned for 2026.[/p][p]BUT! HOLD ON! You’ll be able to play the game much sooner than that. We’re currently working on some playtest builds of the game, and we’ll be running playtests through Steam. So be sure to wishlist Rogue Planet if you haven’t already, so you can stay in the loop for when those go live![/p][p]Stay tuned for more—We’ll see you in the Farlands![/p][p][/p][p] - The TRAGSoft Team[/p]
