The Save-Breaking Update

Well folks, the time is here! It's time to break all of your save files.

Those who have been following the game's progress will have been expecting this for a while now. It's taken about 6 months to get everything working properly, but it is time to finally give the game's controls an upgrade.

This update will be dropping soon, so now is your advance notice to disable automatic updates for the game if you don't want these changes.
That said, if you do accidentally update but want to play your old saves, this is easily fixed (read on).

This update will not be compatible with saves made on previous versions of the game. That said, you can continue to play your old saves on the previous version of the game.

If you accidentally update to this version and didn't mean to (ie. Steam auto-update), you can find the last version of the game which is compatible with old saves here: https://welcome-to-elderfield.itch.io/welcome-to-elderfield/devlog/944372/v0133b

If you accidentally updated, just back up your save folder and replace the files in your Welcome to Elderfield directory with the ones in the above itch download (or just move your saves into that folder and launch it from there), then move your save folder back.
Doing the latter will also have the benefit of having both versions of the game installed, so you can play old saves on that version and make new saves on the current Steam version as well.

This update brings the following changes:
  • You can now click near the player to turn and interact with tiles/objects. Clicking far away from the player will still interact with the tile you are already facing.
  • A tile outline image now shows which tile you will interact with when the mouse is clicked
  • All menus have been reworked to be more mouse-friendly, and gamepad navigation should now be much faster
  • Many redundant menu clicks have been removed
  • You can now click once to deposit/withdraw an item, sprint+click to deposit a full stack, and ctrl+click to select a quantity
  • Item “use” options have been reworked. Many are used instantly when selected (such as food or decorations), and items with no use-able function no longer show a list of options.
  • Many item options now have descriptive names such as “Eat” or “View”.
  • Item dropping has been reworked, now requiring sprint+click to choose an amount to discard
  • Visual buttons have been added to the withdraw/deposit/drop scenes for mouse users
  • The furnace and grinder now show coal requirements
  • Processors will now take coal directly from primary storage

  • (Hopefully) Fixed new pet shop/nursery stock for existing saves

  • Added two new hair style options (bun and fringe)
  • Reworked optimize button to prioritize stats more effectively, and to configure physical attack builds only
  • Fixed LB and RB not working on gamepad for seeds/items
  • Tentacows now always have a small chance of giving a regular quality small milk, regardless of friendship (to always allow low-quality cheese aging for cooking recipes)

NON-PATRONS CHANGELOG
  • Added new menu item: World Map
  • Switched to a simpler keyboard/gamepad config system. You may need to delete config.rmmz in your saves folder if you are having keybind issues
  • You can now rebind any key, even previously locked ones (such as Enter)
  • Furniture objects of the same type can now be repeatedly placed until you run out or cancel placement
  • Added new puddles to the rain effects
  • Fixed flower plots not resetting their growth stage when picked (this will only be fixed for unused flower plots, or when a flower is picked from a previously used plot)
  • Fixed 12PM showing AM
  • Made a change to hopefully fix some extra crop growth events not updating watered plots properly
  • (Hopefully) fixed sleep still chasing you after rest
  • Fixed greystone quest loop w/ Sam when not turned in
  • Time now pauses during map transfer
