Playtest from November 6th to 11th

[p]Hello, fellow, scientists!!![/p][p][/p][p]Sami and Tom just came back from PAX AUS and it was a blast. The whole atmosphere is electric! Over the 3 days of the expo, we had so many people come by and play Dream Team Supreme in co-op. The 2 computers made it so much better than last year. Whether a group of friends, couples, or parents with their children, all had a great time suiting up as a scientist and playing together. The game really shines when you talk through your ideas and make a plan together![/p][p][/p][p]Thank you so much for playing and telling us what you think. It means the world to us.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Above: Scenes from PAX AUS 2025[/p][p][/p][p]Our next playtest is just around the corner, we'll be making the game available from November 6th to 10th. There are so many updates since the last public build so here are a few of the highlights:[/p]
  • [p]Super Supreme is in toy style[/p]
  • [p]The encounter screen, cartridges, and mods are all in toy style[/p]
  • [p]You can invite or join friends via Steam's friends list[/p]
  • [p]The tutorial is more effective and runs in co-op if any player hasn't done it yet[/p]
  • [p]A lot of information clarified in the encounter screen[/p]
  • [p]You can change the resolution speed!!![/p]
[p]If you signed up for the playtest emails, you'll get one on the 6th informing you the build is ready to download. Otherwise, just join us in Discord and tell us you're here for the playtest. We'll make sure you get what you need from there.[/p][p][/p][p]See ya in the chats,[/p][p][/p][p]Olivier from Big Adventure[/p]

Playtests are coming to Steam!

[p][/p][p][/p][p]Originally posted on 2025.09.19[/p][p]There's been a lot of neat stuff happening here at Big Adventure HQ! Among our regular bug fixes and incremental improvements, there are some bigger things coming up that we'd like to share.[/p][p][/p][p]
Above: Super Supreme has been revamped![/p][p][/p][p]We've done a complete overhaul of Super Supreme's design! The world-saving giant robot now has a more action-figure-y look, something we've been calling "toy style". The colours have also been adjusted to pop better, and show the idea of two different scientists teaming up.[/p][p][/p][p]Those who have played our previous playtests know that we've been slowly bringing the toy style to various areas of our game; the settings screen and the scientist selection screen, so far. Next on the list is the most important part of the game - the encounter screen! What do you think of the game going in this direction?
[/p][p][/p][p]Also, the next playtest will be on Steam! If you're keen to join, just head to the Steam page and click "Join the Playtest". Once the playtest starts, you'll be able to download and play it, no hassle.[/p][p]You can also invite up to 3 friends to the playtest. That way, you'll have no trouble finding a co-op partner to team up with!

[/p][p]In other news, we'll be at NZGDC, showing the latest build of Dream Team Supreme! We'll be there all throughout the conference, but if you don't have a ticket, you can still check out the Kiwi Games Zone on Saturday the 27th of September between 9:30am and 3:30pm. So if you're Wellington, come and say hi![/p][p]
[/p][p]That's all for now! See ya,[/p][p][/p][p]Big Adventure[/p]

What we learned from our playtest and at gamescom

[p][/p][p][/p][p]What a fun couple of weeks. We just wrapped up the playtest and I flew back from gamescom in Germany with a ton of great feedback.[/p][p]So what did we learn?[/p][p]Splitting the powers across 3 scientists is fun! Funny data point, the pairing of Toast2 and Dr. Pierre Turner, PhD was the least picked yet the most successful haha. So if you struggled to win, maybe it's easier with Toast2 and Pierre on 0.11?[/p][p]The biggest issues that came up in the playtest were:[/p]
  • [p]Mods were offered for scientists that weren't in the pair[/p]
    • [p]Oops, that's not fun. We can address the mods by creating pools based on scientists.[/p]
  • [p]The art style needs cohesion[/p]
  • [p]The cartridge readability needs improvement[/p]
    • [p]As many of you have seen, the new scientists and the settings screen look drastically different from the rest of the game and are our first step into aligning all the visuals in a single art direction. We're calling it "toy style" and we can't wait to reveal more with each update. When we revise the cartridges in the toy style, we will also make readability improvements and will seek out your feedback to see if it solved the issues.[/p]
[p][/p][p]At gamescom, we pitched the game to publishers and met fellow devs making roguelike deckbuilders. The feedback was generally positive for the same reasons you love Dream Team Supreme. The things to work on that came out from the talks are:[/p]
  • [p]Strategy isn't deep enough yet[/p]
    • [p]That's a fair assessment. We're adding depth with every cartridge, mod, and monster so looking at every 3 updates is probably a good measuring stick for how much depth we can add to Dream Team Supreme.[/p]
  • [p]The art style isn't uniform[/p]
    • [p]We agree with the art style feedback and the conversion is under way. It will take several months to make it all shine in the new toy style.[/p]
  • [p]Hard to get players to play co-op[/p]
    • [p]What do you think about the co-op comment? We've found that at conventions, players love playing 2 player co-op. At Palmygeddon, co-op was 90% of the playthroughs. We also know that during playtests, only 5% of the playthroughs are co-op. If you have specific obstacles or features in the game that are preventing you from enjoying it in co-op, we'd love to hear your thoughts.[/p]
[p]We've released 0.11 on itch.io so you can play it for yourself. Are the issues mentioned above also your biggest gripes or do you feel like something else is holding Dream Team Supreme back?[/p][p]
See ya,[/p][p]Olivier from Big Adventure[/p]

Two new scientists to join Dream Team Supreme

[p]Originally posted on 2025.07.30[/p][p]The next update of Dream Team Supreme will let you pick your pair from scientist from a pool of 3. Bruce Force is back with a new look and different cartridges. However, 2 new scientists will try to fill Tricky Vicky's giant shoes. Their looks will be revealed in the Discord over the next two weeks so keep an eye out. Having all the powers, including the new ones, split across 3 scientists has changed how the game feels in many ways and we'd love to know what you think about it.

To find out, we are organizing a playtest from August 19th at 8:00 to August 25th at 17:00 New Zealand Time. Click on the link to sign up.[/p][p]In the coming months, we are going to attend many conferences to promote Dream Team Supreme and let players try out the game. The Big Adventure jokes about traveling and suitcases are starting to land, so we'll pack all the conference news into bullet points. If you're attending too, come by our booth and say hello. We'd love to meet you in person.[/p]
  • [p]This weekend: We'll be at Palmygeddon in Palmerston North. Swing by Fly Palmy Arena, we'll be by the wrecking ball and bumper cars. I'm not making that up, I just saw the floor plan on Instagram. It's going to be wild haha.[/p]
  • [p]August: I'll be at gamescom pitching Dream Team Supreme. We've got a sweet booth in the B2B area of the Koelnmesse, Hall 3.2. It's in the New Zealand Trade & Enterprise zone.[/p]
  • [p]September: We will be at New Zealand Game Developer Conference (NZGDC) in Wellington, literally 1 block away from the office.[/p]
    • [p]Sami and Tom are organizing a workshop that goes through the process of setting up host-based multiplayer functionality in Unity. Hmm, sounds like something they have experience dealing with.[/p]
    • [p]I will join a panel to discuss how we tested our paper prototypes. Some of you may have taken part in those tests a little more than a year ago.[/p]
    • [p]Freddie and I will show off Dream Team Supreme for the home crowd. We'll be in the Kiwi Games Zone, at booth 31 (one of the corner booths in the middle).[/p]
  • [p]October: We will be at PAX AUS in Melbourne. That's quite a while away, so we'll have more details closer to the date.[/p]
[p]See ya (maybe at one of these events?),[/p][p]Olivier from Big Adventure[/p]

What a fun playtest!

[p]Hello Fellow Scientists,[/p][p]The last weekend of June, we had our first open playtest. What a ride that was![/p][p]A HUGE THANK YOU to all the participants. We are super grateful![/p][p]We've uploaded the build onto itch.io for anyone to play. Click on the itch.io link at the bottom of the page to download it. Can you defeat all the monsters too?[/p][p][/p][p]Two bits of good news to share with you all.[/p]
  • [p]We are going to Palmygeddon! It's happening in Palmerston North on August 2nd and 3rd. Come play the latest build if you're at the show.[/p]
  • [p]We will be attending gamescom in Germany. We will be in the business area, trying to find partners to promote, fund, and port Dream Team Supreme. If you are a fellow game dev, a publisher, a platform holder, or a content creator, email me and we'll meet up. If you know any going that you think we should meet, please email me.[/p]
[p]See ya on Discord,[/p][p]Olivier from Big Adventure[/p]
