Early Access Update v0.863 Feb2025 hotfix 2

Just a really quick hotfix to fix a game-breaking issue where you couldn't make a menu selection on the podium for SplitscreenGP.

Changes in v0.863

  • fixed podium menu on SplitscreenGP
  • squashed a bug that stopped the track screenshot slideshow in the Splitscreen Cup Select menu

Early Access Update v0.862 Feb2025 hotfix

This update exists mostly to address a bug where unknown (to the game) controllers would cause the game to display white squares instead of the GUI button prompt icon graphics in the menu. But it also adds a few other improvements to the Controller Calibration sliders, with finer tuning control, so calibrating steering wheels is a much better experience.

Feb 2025 v0.862 changes:

  • Camera issues:

    • fixed camera not always keeping kart onscreen in Super style races

  • Controller issues:

    • added generic button icons for unknown controllers, to stop the bug where the icons were just white squares.
    • these are UI1, UI2, UI3, and UI4. They're the icons you see when navigating the user interface on menus. If you're using an unknown (to the game) controller, then they'll be whatever you set in the Control Mapper for the UI Butt 1, UI Butt 2, UI Butt 3, and UI Butt 4 Actions respectively.
    • added visualisation of the numerical values of the three sliders in the Calibrate Controller window, axis DeadZone/ZeroPoint/Sensitivity, making it much clearer what the slider's value is.
    • added finer tuning of the DeadZone slider when calibrating a controller's axis, previously, when moving the slider with a keyboard or joypad, it jumped in increments of 10% - now it's 1% increments. This comes in handy for steering wheels in particular, where the previous smallest value of 10% was way too much and just felt wrong, and 0% had the kart veering off to the side when the wheel was centered. For example, my Thrustmaster wheel here feels good at 7%, but too loose at 9% and unsteady at 5%.
    • also added that finer tuning to the Sensitivity and Zero sliders when using Joypad/keyboard
    • re-added Steering DeadZone and Steering Sensitivity to the in-race Controller Settings menu, fiddling there to fine tune while racing gives a much better user experience.

  • Other changes:

    • added a "loading.." icon during level transitions

As always, if some new change breaks the game on your setup, please let me know in the Discussions or on Discord, and consider stepping back to the Previous beta build while a fix is worked on.

Happy Karting!

Fork In The Road v0.861

  • Clive'n'Wrench

    • added 2 new time zones to The Road Between Time with a fork in the road to the end of Track To The Future, giving a much better ending to each lap. Drive left for Gold Boostpads, or drive right for some extra Powerup Jars, you choose what's best for your lap!
    • fixed a crack in the slot car road
    • removed collider from the small VHS tape at the start of The Road Between Time section

  • Nitromeland

    • added ability for fired weapons to also travel through portal doors to the other side, rather than them being lost to the transporter (also applies to other tracks with portals)
    • fixed kart sometimes spinning in the air briefly when exiting a portal if you entered the portal on an unconventional angle

  • Super Indie Beach

    • fixed splitscreen CPU karts being stuck in the air glitch
    • added an extra path for the CPU karts to take at Seagull's Snak Shak
    • added more arrow signs for oft missed bends and 100cc Gold Shroom
    • added higher invisible walls to mudpit area as some players found themselves accidentally jumping the red fence

  • Snowdriftland

    • added a ramp to the front of the lava pool in the lava tube area, but it's still better to ride the wall!
    • added up arrow texture to the iceberg ramps at the end of the lap

  • RunbowRoad

    • added an instructional hint at the start to help get the ball rolling for those unfamiliar with the Runbow mechanic. "Watch the sky, dodge the traps!"

  • Canabalt64

    • fixed dirt particle system being sandy coloured

  • Other fixes

    • fixed mode7 Super tracks camera being too close to kart when it spins around you at race end
    • fixed Podium scene information pages being changeable with Left and Right before the information page had even came on-screen
    • fixed L2 and R2 still being WeaponUse and HopDrift after setting them to be something else (like Accelerate and Brake), by adding HopDrift2 and WeaponUse2 actions

  • Steam Deck

    • fixed unconnected keyboard pushing the joypad controls of the Steam Deck to P2

  • Beeta Blocka weapon

    • added an animation of the beetroot being dropped
    • added drop sound, and a hum sound to the shield

From here, assuming v0.861 doesn't introduce some new bug requiring a v0.862 release, the next major items on my goal list for the next major update are to create the next Advanced Cup and a new book of missions for Mission Mania. I'll let you know what will be the featured crossovers, in a few short months, with a trailer drop or something.

Happy Karting!
