Don't Wake the Beast News

A warning from the beast

[p]You dare step into my halls… little thief? 👀[/p][p]I am the oldest flame, the last echo of a thousand silent ages. My wings have cast shadows across kingdoms, and my breath has turned stone to ash. Beneath my talons lie riches gathered over centuries — offerings, trophies, legacies of empires long turned to dust.[/p][p]And yet, you crawl in like a whisper, threadbare cloak and rusted grappling hook, seeking my treasure.[/p][p]You think me blind?
You think the beasts that roam these halls serve no master? Fool. They are my kin — scaled, fanged, and forged in shadow. They remember what was taken. They remember who dares to steal.[/p]
Let me explain it to you, then.
[p][/p]

1. Know whose hoard you disturb 🐲
[p]These are not ruins, boy.
They are crypts of glory. Every gem, every goblet, every blade half-buried in sand — they do not belong to you. They are etched with oaths older than your bloodline.
And when your trembling hand reaches for them, the ground listens. And I… awaken.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
2. We are not in danger — We are the danger! 🔥
[p]We hunt not out of hunger, but duty.
We were born to protect, our senses sharpened by ages of silence. We hear your hook before it flies. We feel your breath before it fogs the stone.
You will run.
You will swing.
You will burn.
[/p][p][/p]
3. Know this, little ember 🕯️
[p]You may survive.
You may even steal a shard of my memory and drag it back into the light.
But the deeper you go, the closer you come to me.
And if we meet…
Well. I hope you brought more than a torch.[/p][p]Don’t Wake The Beast, you say?
You already have.[/p][p]

A Treasure Hunter’s guide to staying alive (mostly)

Hey there, fellow adventurers! :OrbGetThief:

It’s me, your charming, slightly bruised treasure hunter, writing this totally voluntary guide while catching my breath in a suspiciously cozy cave.

You’re probably wondering: “How does one survive ancient ruins, unearth legendary loot, and outrun ravenous beasts without becoming lunch?” Well, lucky for you, I’ve got the answers—or at least the bruises to prove what not to do. :luckyclover:

Step one: The grappling hook :grapplinghook:

Forget about carrying your grandma’s purse (no offense to Granny). Here’s what you’ll actually need: The Grappling Hook – the ultimate tool for treasure hunters in Don’t Wake The Beast - You know, the game I’m the hero of: single-player, challenging, roguelite, with procedurally generated levels? Ringing any bells? Yeah? I hope so. Getting back to the topic of grappling hooks, it is your tool for avoiding traps, and pulling loot from places you probably shouldn’t be reaching into and — most importantly:

Pro tip #1: You can use the hook to make noise at a distance. Yep! Smash a pot near an enemy or just slap the wall with the hook — it’s like ringing a doorbell with explosives.

Also, try not to swing like Spider-You-Know-Who. Trust me. I’ve tried. Didn’t end well.

Step two: Treasure hunting like a pro :IOTC_Treasure_Chest:

Every ruin has a story, and every story has… booby traps. To avoid becoming a permanent part of the scenery. Read the symbols. Some are ancient warnings. Some are invitations to die stupidly.

And…

Pro tip #2: Keep an eye :caveblazerseyeball: out for cracked, fragile-looking walls — many hide secret rooms full of loot, lore, or occasionally… more problems.

Don’t touch the shiny things… immediately. Look, I get it, they sparkle! But traps don’t reset themselves.

Step three: The beast factor

Now, about the whole “don’t wake the beast” thing… yeah, good luck with that. If you’re looking for dynamic escape challenges, you’ve come to the right place. Those overgrown nightmares have a sixth sense for wannabe adventurers. My advice?

 • Stay quiet – Whistling your favorite tune might feel heroic, but it’s basically a dinner bell.
 • Run like your life depends on it (because it does). And if all else fails… maybe they like jokes? Worth a shot.

Pro tip #3: When the beast breathes fire — DON’T panic. :SpellDisk_Fire:

You can latch onto the ceiling with your hook to avoid it (assuming you’re fast and lucky).
BUT here’s a trick — during its flame attack, the beast moves slower. If you’ve got space, you might be better off just sprinting out of the blast zone to gain some distance.

Step four: Survive another day

If you’ve made it this far without tripping into a pit or losing an arm, congrats! You’re either incredibly skilled or ridiculously lucky. Just remember, the treasure is worth it… probably. So, grab your grappling hook, light that torch, and join me in the thrill of the chase. Just don’t forget: the ruins may hold ancient riches, but the beasts don’t take kindly to looters. I’ll see you out there—if you can keep up. Don’t Wake The Beast is waiting for you, adventurers. But remember, it’s not the treasure that makes the story—it’s how you survive the chase.

Don’t Wake the Beast on IGN Fan Fest 2025!

Hunters!

It’s so great to be writing to you all again, as it's been a while since my previous update. Honestly, the Don't Wake the Beast announcement exceeded my expectations and sparked an even more intensive phase of work. Your positive reception of my project gave me a huge boost and I'm excited to finally share what I've been up to over the last 3 months.
IGN Fan Fest 2025
I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that Don’t Wake the Beast will be part of IGN Fan Fest 2025, which is taking place from February 24 to March 1! That’s right, my game will be showcased during the digital event hosted by one of the most renowned gaming outlet in the world!

This is a big deal for a small developer like me, and it feels incredible to be included in such an amazing lineup of indie titles. It motivates me to keep pushing and working even harder on the game.
Empty-handed? No chance!
You’ll definitely want to tune in for this, as I won’t be walking into the showcase empty-handed. Expect a brand-new trailer revealing new features, mechanics, and a sneak peek at some never-before-seen areas of the dungeons.

There’s a lot to uncover, and I’m confident you’ll love what we’ve got in store.
In the end…
Thank you all for your incredible support, for being part of this journey, and for the kind words following the release of the first trailer. Your feedback and enthusiasm truly mean the world to me! :)

Don't Wake The Beast is a blend of Thief and Spelunky where you must let sleeping dragons lie

The Hobbit movies are a mixed Baggins indeed - at once thunderous and thin, like butter scraped over too much bread - but one sequence I love from The Desolation of Smaug is Bilbo searching Erebor for the Arkenstone, while trying not to rouse the titular dragon from his slumber. Don't Wake The Beast is sort of that sequence plus Spelunkified procgen levels and Thief-esque stealth mechanics.
