Three Kingdoms: Mushouden – A Letter to Our Players

[p]Dear Warriors,

Hello to all our fellow warriors, and thank you for being here.

It’s been three days since the release of Three Kingdoms: Mushouden, and first of all, we’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your attention and support. Over the past few days, we’ve received a large volume of feedback from players — including excitement and praise, but also criticism and many valuable suggestions.

We are deeply grateful for all of your voices. At the same time, we have become acutely aware of our shortcomings — especially in the finer details of game design, where we failed to fully consider things from the player's point of view. This has led to unsatisfactory experiences for some of you, and we sincerely apologize for that.

[/p]
We offer our heartfelt apologies to all players.
[p]
As a newly formed indie team, we chose a theme and genre that we love, and we poured our passion and creativity into the development of Three Kingdoms: Mushouden. However, due to our limited team size, lack of experience, and insufficient understanding of the market, we made some poor decisions along the way and failed to polish the game to the level we had hoped for.

We’ve since taken a hard look at the issues with the project and are actively working to address them. Your honest and direct feedback has been a great motivator — thank you.

Since the Steam Next Fest, many players have placed high expectations on us. In our rush to push development forward, we ended up "building behind closed doors," working long hours but overlooking the importance of listening to our players. For this, we are truly sorry.

Going forward, we promise to pay close attention to player feedback, fix known issues, add new features and characters, and make adjustments to existing content — including usability, difficulty, and balance — while continuing to push regular updates.

Three Kingdoms: Mushouden represents the very beginning of our journey into indie game development.

So please rest assured: South North Studio will not disappear, and we will never betray the trust of our players.
📘 New Player Tips – A Letter from the Dev Team
We’ve prepared a New Player Guide to help you get started with the gameplay mechanics and enjoy the strategic depth of the game!

1. Survival first. Choose your battles wisely.
 • Not all higher-star quests are better.
 • Evaluate your party’s strength and choose quests accordingly.
 • Attempting high-difficulty missions too early may result in injuries, broken gear, or an unrecoverable spiral toward defeat.
2. [Gear and Weapon Choice]
 • Always equip characters with appropriate weapons for their troop type (short/long weapons) to ensure accuracy.
 • Pay attention to stamina: if it’s [below 50], avoid equipping heavy gear.
 • Pro Tip: Stick to one weapon early on. Once you're familiar with the system, consider dual-wielding.
3. Join a Noble Clan
 • After reaching Prestige Level 3. quickly join a noble clan for access to powerful units and supplies.
 • You can also rent elite officers before you earn enough merit.
4. On Trading & Tomb Raiding
We don’t recommend relying solely on these as your main income sources.
 • These were fallback mechanics during past testing phases.
 • In the full game, they are supplementary and situational – do them if they're along your route or fill a gap in your strategy.
 • Example: If you're aiming to recruit Zhang Fei, align with the Lu Clan in Zhuo Commandery and complete clan quests. While doing this, feel free to trade or explore any nearby tombs.
5. Clan Quest Tips
 • Early on, focus on “Procurement” and “Diplomacy” type missions.
 • You can change quest types via the [“Consult”] function and refresh available tasks.
6. Historical Officer Recommendations
You can find recruitable historical officers by gathering intel in taverns. Here are a few examples:
 • Pang De – Dai Commandery
 • Cao Chun and Cao Ren – Qiao Commandery
 • Ju Shou – Julu (strong military strategist)
 • Li Ru – Jinyang (strong military strategist)
7. Support Officer Suggestions
 • Zhang Xiu – Shangdang (Prestige 3 required)
 • Zhang Xun – Yecheng (Prestige 3)
 • Yan Liang – Henei (Prestige 4)
 • Jia Xu – Yangyi (Prestige 4)
 • Yue Jin – Baima (Prestige 4)

Many more elite officers await your discovery!

8. Additional Tips
 • Download the full map guide to better understand terrain and progression routes.
 • Bandit camps can be [visited or hired as mercenaries] – but they’re expensive!
 • Battle missions offer high rewards – aim for high scores!
 • Once you’re powerful enough, [wipe out bandit hideouts] for big gains!
🆕 What’s New in the Full Version Compared to the Demo?
• Just in case you missed it, here’s what the full release adds over the demo:
 • Main storyline extended to 35 chapters with over 100,000 new words.
 • 30+ new officer ultimates.
 • 20+ new historical officers.
 • 20+ new active strategist skills and 20+ overseer skills.
 • Full-featured custom officer creation system.
 • Over 200 officers recruitable in sandbox mode.
 • Vastly expanded bandit system with over 100 new missions.

If you encounter any bugs or problems during your playthrough, please don’t hesitate to let us know on Discord — we take every report seriously and will carefully review them!

Update Log – June 17, 2025

Hello everyone,
We've just released a new installation package that primarily addresses issues affecting the gameplay experience — such as the disappearance of tomb exploration options. The current version of the game is ver1.12. You can verify whether you’ve updated to the latest version from the top-left corner of the in-game screen.

[Fixes & Improvements]

Fixed a bug where Wen Pin would not appear in the wild if his quest failed.

Fixed an issue where battle music would incorrectly play after story sound effects.

Fixed a bug where options would disappear after clicking "Leave" in tomb exploration or selecting the strategist’s suggestion.

Fixed shortcut keys becoming unresponsive during the initial cutscene.

Fixed missing resources in the battle tutorial.

Adjusted enemy detection logic in certain battles.

Corrected several text errors.

Adjusted the trigger condition for Zhang Xun’s quest: now requires Reputation Level 4 (previously Level 2).

[Download Issues Notice]

We’ve also noticed that some players are experiencing freezing issues during downloads.

Following an urgent investigation by our technical team, we’ve preliminarily determined that this issue is related to network node fluctuations on the Steam client side and not caused by the game itself (we are currently unable to reproduce the bug in local testing). We’ve contacted Steam support for assistance, but have not yet received a clear response.

To ensure your download and gameplay experience, we recommend trying the following solutions:

1. Change your download region
Steam → Settings → Downloads → Download Region → Select a less congested region (e.g., “East Africa”) → Restart Steam and retry the download.
You can switch back to your original region after completing the download.

2. Exit Steam and use a network accelerator (VPN)
3. Pause the download on the Steam download screen, wait a few seconds, and resume — this may bypass the stuck point.
4. Manually set your DNS to a more stable server, such as Google’s 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 — this may improve download speed.
5. Temporarily disable Windows Firewall and ensure you have sufficient disk space for installation.

Thank you for playing!
If you encounter any issues during gameplay, please reach out to us via our Discord server — we’re actively monitoring and here to help!
