What have we been up to? An Animas Dev Update

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since we shared our announcement trailer, and first of all, we wanted to thank you. The truth is, the reception Animas received took us by surprise, in the best possible way. In these few months, thanks to you, we've surpassed 3000 wishlists, a milestone that has filled us with motivation and energy.

While you were showing us your incredible support, we've been completely immersed in the Blanco family home. As we've progressed, we've realized something: the potential of this project is much greater than we had anticipated. Therefore, to do justice to the game you've shown us you want to see, we've made the decision to adjust our launch schedule for the full game.

But the good news is that you won't have to wait that long to set foot in the house. Our immediate plan, where we are focusing all our efforts, is to release Animas: Prologue this year. It will be a standalone, self-contained experience that will serve as a first dive into the unsettling universe of Animas.

Setting a game in the Venezuelan mountains across different eras means that almost every object you'll see—from the furniture and the food on the table, to the specific religious icons that adorn the walls—is being modeled and textured by hand by us. It's meticulous and time-consuming work, but it's the only way to achieve the cultural authenticity we consider to be the core of this project.

As you can imagine, a larger project and an extended development schedule also mean a greater need for resources. As a self-funded independent studio, to get Animas to the finish line with the quality we all expect, we are actively exploring our options. This includes looking for a publisher who shares our vision, as well as the possibility of a crowdfunding campaign in the future.

For now, the most powerful and direct way you can help us is super simple: add and keep Animas on your Steam Wishlist. Spreading the word about the game also helps us a lot. Every wishlist is a vote of confidence that boosts us enormously on the platform; it tells Steam and potential partners that there is a real and excited community waiting for this game.

Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patience, your trust, and for joining us on this journey. We are pouring all our passion into this project and we're dying to have you visit the Blanco family home for the first time in Animas: Prologue.

All the best,

Animas Now on Steam: A Psychological Horror Game Set in Venezuela

Greetings, Steam community! Today is a very special day for Apamate Studio, as we can finally present Animas, our new video game. Prepare to immerse yourself in a unique psychological horror experience set in the mysterious mountains of Venezuela.

For those familiar with our work on Mechanophagia, let us share that Animas represents a new chapter for our studio. While Mechanophagia was our first project – born as a learning prototype and developed with great care over a year – with Animas, we wanted to explore different horizons. As a growing studio, we're excited to experiment and gradually define our identity as creators.

With Animas, we set two main goals. First, to channel our prior artistic experience in film and animation into creating a game with a strong narrative and visual component. We leveraged our 3D modeling and animation expertise to build an immersive, unsettling atmosphere. Second, we wanted to deeply connect with our cultural roots. As Venezuelans, we felt motivated to contribute our perspective to the gaming industry – a field where we believe representation of our culture remains scarce.

Stay tuned, as in the coming weeks and months we'll share many more details about Animas. To avoid missing updates, add Animas to your wishlist! This way, you'll receive direct notifications about the demo release and other important news (we have very exciting plans for the demo, so keep an eye out!).

Finally, if you'd like to directly support Animas' development and help bring this project to life, consider checking out Mechanophagia. It's our first game, and while it's very different from Animas and perhaps more modest in scale, we hold it dear. If you enjoy discovering indie studios' early works and want to support our journey, Mechanophagia could be a great way to do so.
