New Map and New Combat for Project Thea

It’s been a busy few months at our HQ, and we’ve got some exciting updates to share! Between implementing big changes and pushing forward toward a playable build, the team has been hard at work—and we’re finally ready to talk about it.

First up: the map. We weren’t completely happy with how things were shaping up visually. While we loved the idea of a hand-drawn, 2D aesthetic, it just didn’t look the way we had envisioned. After a lot of testing (and coffee), we made the bold decision to pivot entirely and go full 3D. That’s right—Project Thea’s map is now built in glorious 3D, using the latest version of our tried-and-true Honew Hey framework. This change meant finding a dedicated 3D artist, rebuilding terrains, and refining our tools, but the result has been more than worth it. We’re absolutely thrilled with the new look, and we hope you’ll love it just as much as we do.

Next: combat. Yes, we changed that too! We took a long hard look at the system we had and realised it wasn’t quite delivering the kind of fast-paced, strategic fun we were aiming for. So we scrapped it and rebuilt the whole thing. The new combat is more streamlined, more dynamic, and way more fun to play. If you want the juicy details, check out our latest dev diary on the website—there’s plenty to dig into there.

And finally, with all these sweeping changes, you might be wondering: are we still on schedule? We’re happy to say: yes, we are! We’re still on track with our development timeline and aiming to get a playable build ready for closed beta testing in the next few months. It’s getting real, and we can’t wait to get your hands on it.
