Danger comes in different flavors – Meet your enemies
Scyron!
If you had a go at the demo yet, you already had the pleasure of meeting one of the main factions besieging Bastion at the game’s release: The Zombies of Dreadwing the Zombie Dragon.

But the armies of Zombies are of course not the only faction unleashed by the Unraveler to topple and destroy the last hope of humanity. In fact, when you’ll not be fighting back against the hordes of Zombies, you might find either the Skeletons of Kadath the Necromancer or vampiric units of Leskard the Vampire Lord marching you down on the main lane.

While each of the three faction leaders can be possessed by distinct elemental variants, determining the elemental type of their commanding armies, every faction also comes with their own unique units, abilities and lethality.

Let’s take a look!
The Zombies of Dreadwing
Dreadwing the Zombie Dragon is himself, as the names states, undead. So, the fact that he is commanding hordes of reanimated zombies, bloated, exploding corpses and a Flesh Golem as his guardian should come of no surprise to anybody. All of his units can be infused by poison, acid, fire or frost.

Zombies are the base units that are running against bastion, following the pre-determined path and while they are less scary as a single unit, it’s the number that makes them dangerous.

In combination with their bigger variant, the exploding zombies, Scyrons can quickly find themselves encircled by the horde. The reason for that is less the AoE blast on death which is to be expected with a name like that, but their ability to pull Scyrons close to them.

The back is lined by catapults who will do great splash damage against structures and any other target that doesn’t move out of their way fast enough.

The guardian of the Aphotic Lands serving Dreadwing is Carillon the Flesh Golem and it comes packed with an 80% resistance on the pre-defined elemental type defined by it’s primordial.

With its elemental arms, it will lay waste to anyone approaching it too closely. Striking the grounds with either Elemental Smash or Dual Smash, its attacks will crack the floor on impact creating destruction and dealing damage way beyond the point of impact. Should you be able to avoid these attacks by remaining at a distance, Chained Cannon Ball, Carillon will probably start shooting its hands towards you.
The Skeletongs of Kadath
Close cousins of a fully reanimated corpse are of course reanimated skeletons. And reanimating skeletons is what Kadath the Necromancer does best. This faction leader draws from the power of death itself creating legions from the fallen which can be supercharged causing either thunder, bleeding, fire or frost damage.

Unlike their meaty brethren, the skeletons can wield weapons and thus will attack you both at distance and proximity. The base units are Skeleton Archers shooting arrows and Skeleton equipped with a shield – allowing them to block first attacks.

Supporting these lines in later days are the Skeleton Giants who can be best described as close combat elemental weapons. Avoid their strikes at all costs, even if you have built up your elemental resistance.

The skeleton army does also not shy away from using catapults against heavy targets and structures. Try to take them out early to protect your fighting soldiers or be sure to stay agile and keep them busy.

The mighty Boneweaver is the champion and guardian of Kadath the Necromancer. This nightmarish human-spider-monster hybrid protects the entrance to the Aphotic Lands and will swiftly spell your doom if you don’t come prepared and in support of your soldiers.

With its powerful legs, Boneweaver will not only attack you directly through a Leg Barrage, but also by thrusting her front legs into the ground to have them strike you from below. In case you feel like keeping your distance is a safe option, rest assured that Boneweaver can teleport, dealing massive AoE damage when reappearing, and is also able to create multiple, pulsating Necrotic Geysers.
The Vampiric Units of Leskar
What’s the worst nightmare of any hero in a video game? It’s of course any enemy that suddenly pops a health potion or one that can regain its health. While the vampire units from Leskar the Vampire Lord will not drink health potions, they are still equipped with ongoing health regeneration combined with their increased movement speed on the lane.

Strike these creatures of the night swiftly and without mercy while they wield powers of thunder, poison, acid or attacks that can cause bleeding.

You might be expecting to see vampires rushing down the lane, but these noble ex-humans are a true rarity compared to what will meet you instead: Night Beasts. Night Beasts are terrifying ranged units that will rip you to shreds before you have a chance to get closer.

At later stages, the Night Beasts are joined by predatory Nocthraals who are complementing the Night Beasts perfectly with their jumping attack and devastating close combat skills. If you are fortunate enough to have your soldiers at your side, try to keep them out of harm’s way by engaging the Nocthraals head-on.

The job of guarding the gates to the Aphotic Lands was given to the dashing Vampire Concubine. Much like the other guardians, it also sports an 80% resistance to the elemental type designed by its house.

Dashing can be taken quite literally, as the Vampire Concubine is very mobile when defending the territory it has been told to protect. Whether it’s attacking in a single straight line, targeted from above or in the dance-like Death Waltz, you should never stay in the same place for long. Playing in co-op it’s recommended to spread out and never give it a single target to focus on.
