Devlog #2 - Biomes, Nature & Life in Valorborn

[p]Hello adventurers,[/p][p][/p][p]In this devlog, we will walk you through the different biomes, the natural world, our full day–night cycle, and the wildlife that ties everything together.[/p][p][/p][p] [/p]
A Living 24-Hour World
[p]Valorborn follows a real-time, 24-hour cycle similar to the one outside your window. That rhythm drives not only the animals but every NPC you meet. (Village life is its topic for a future devlog.) Each part of the day feels distinct, from sunrise sounds to the quiet of midnight.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Unique Biomes
[p]The world holds several biomes, each with plants, trees, animals, and even creatures found nowhere else. Explore or read any notes you discover to learn their secrets. Gather rare herbs from a misty swamp or track a wolf high in the mountains, then turn those finds into new crafting materials. Combine them in different ways to create the items you need. Every region matters and gives you plenty of reasons to venture off the main road.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Trees: More Than Decoration
[p]Trees are both a resource and a pillar of the ecosystem. Clear-cutting a patch of forest may give you the lumber for a new camp, but it can also wipe out local plants and send wildlife fleeing. Your choices leave a mark on the land.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Wildlife With Real Behaviors
[p]Animals follow their routines. At dawn, they graze; by night, they sleep or hide. While roaming the woods, you might stumble upon wolves chasing deer in real time, not a scripted cutscene. Even if you never intervene, the world of Valorborn keeps living on its own.[/p][p][/p][p]That is all for this devlog. If you have questions, join our Discord or drop a note in the Steam forums. We would love to hear from you.[/p][p][/p][p]Discord[/p][p][/p][p]Thank you for reading, and see you in the next devlog![/p]

Devlog #1 - Character Creation

First of all, thank you for your enthusiasm for Valorborn. We’re working hard to deliver the best possible experience, and we’d like to bring you along for the journey with regular development blogs. We aim to publish a new devlog every 3–4 weeks and keep you in the loop throughout production.

Character Creation

In this first entry, we focus on how you build your party or an alone hero. Valorborn lets you customise each character in detail—from facial features and hair to a personalised backstory. While we won’t claim to have the ultimate character creator, we give you plenty of freedom to shape your heroes exactly as you imagine.
Appearance
• Over 40 facial sliders (eye angle, brow depth, jaw width, and more)
 • Modular hair styles and colours—including medieval-inspired braids, shaved sides and more..
 • Scar, tattoo, and complexion options that age with the character as the story progresses
Background & Story
Every character begins with an origin—Street Urchin, Disgraced Noble, Hinterland Trapper, Arcane Student, and a dozen more. Backgrounds aren’t just flavour text: they deliver starting attribute bonuses, unique dialogue hooks, and in some cases open or close questlines.
Why We Built It This Way
We wanted character creation to echo our core design pillars: player agency and emergent storytelling. Rather than forcing every hero down the same path, the system lets you experiment. Maybe you field a party of underworld rogues who avoid stand-up fights, or perhaps you lead honour-bound soldiers who settle disputes with steel. Your background and talent picks subtly modulate how NPCs react and what resources you can access early on, without locking you into a single “right” build.

That’s it for our first devlog. We hope you enjoy this early look at character creation, and we’ll be back in a few weeks with the new devlog.
